Presidential hopeful John McCain has been running an interesting race so far, announcing over a month ago he was intending on being our next president on a late night talk show.
There is no doubt many observers have sussed the elder statesman and his campaign as less than vital and war opponents have written him off as a waffling out of tune candidate who speaks out of both sides of his mouth.
GOP strategists are not outwardly pro or con against McCain, and one can only imagine the conundrum they face with their list of candidates while trying to plan and strategize, as our nation on both sides of the liberal and conservative divide demand the war come to an end.
McCain is a bona fide war hero and veteran, yet it is his choices of allying with the president over the war which will hurt him with Republicans in the more blue shaded states, but the flip side of the GOP in the red-hued conservative areas will most certainly prefer him to Rudy Giuliani, who seemingly appeals to more progressive Republican and independent voters alike.
Where does McCain dwell on key issues?
He is for campaign finance reform, believes in global warming and wants tax cuts. He is conservative on the gun issues, and anti-abortion (caveat is if the mother's life is in play or rape or incest situation) and anti-gay marriage.
Joe Scarborough of MSNBC quips in his latest column that "now is not the time to write off a guy who spent years being beaten like a dog in a POW camp."
