The singer is officially no longer Bobby Brown's wife after court proceedings were completed in California on Tuesday (24.04.07).
Whitney, 43, requested the case to be fast-tracked in December, after filing for divorce on the grounds of 'irreconcilable differences' two months earlier.
The 'Greatest Love of All' singer was granted full custody of the couple's 14-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina last month, with visitation rights granted to Bobby, 38.
Whitney wept in court after the custody ruling. She had told the Orange County Superior Court she did not require spousal or child support from Bobby, and said he was unreliable as a parent.
She told the court: "He's unreliable. If he says he's going to come, sometimes he does. Usually he doesn't."
Bobby's attorney Ram Cogan - who was not present at last month's hearing - indicated that they would appeal against the decision. No action has been taken as yet.
Last month, Bobby reportedly said he and Whitney were keen to remain on good terms throughout the proceedings - because they did not want to become part of the Hollywood circus.
He said: "We're trying to work everything out so the divorce goes right - not like a Hollywood divorce. We're friends."
Whitney and the R'n'B singer married in June 1992.
Their marriage was plagued by numerous reports of domestic violence. Both Bobby and Whitney have faced drugs allegations and spent time in rehab.
