I have been reading a lot of on-line comments--in response to the neocon lie machine, in response to the VA Tech killings--posted by Americans while they are at work or in between X-box sessions, and here is my big proposal in conclusion: Let's split this country up. All the slavering, retarded right wing nut bar boys on the verge of thrombosis and their brittle sorority holes: move over into the Red States, and stay there. The rest of us, let's leave it all behind, and start our own country. An actual democracy maybe. Let's finally breathe free and admit it: Lincoln made a tremendous mistake, and I'm not talking about the anti-slavery stance. We can stop reading the rants of the Perpetually Tetched and Belligerant, but the asinine mismanagement of our society is never going to go away. Our odds at secession wouldn't be any worse than trying to stuff the gun-Pandora back in the box. What do you say, VT, MN, SD, CA, OR, WA, HI...who else is in?...FREEDOM HO!
What I see here are a bunch of people falling over themselves to condemn anyone fighting against Islamic terrorists. Too many people put far too much emphasis on inaccurate news reports, and too little concern about the reasons we are fighting. But, those same people have erroneous views of why we are fighting, too.
I just watch Jessica Lynch's testimony to Congress on CNN video. I think she went too far by stating that the military lied or told elaborate lies about her ordeal. The fact is, she rode a truck toward her assigned destination, as was her job. She did not run away. Never mind the fact that soon after the attack on her unit she physically could not run away. The key point is that she did not surrender. She did not give up to despair. In military terms, that means she went down fighting. It was not a lie to say she was a fighting hero, in the broad sense of the term. I'm guessing she even got a Purple Heart for it; that isn't meant to be given to deserters, a sign that the military believes she deserved a medal. Maybe Ms. Lynch is embarrassed by all the attention she has received, but she should choose her words more carefully.
All told, I think that too many people are too eager to latch onto anything negative they can say about this war effort.
I'm with ya Freedomy Flaggy. Let's hope snot-nosed kevin stays keeps to his own little pea-brained sized portion of the country. But can we give em the southern half of the country, cause that's where they mostly seem to be from anyway.
what kevin
no comment about me calling you a whiney B***H just as i figured a COWARD. like most loudmouth soldiers who are too damn scared to actually pick up a weapon and fight . you my friend are a disgrace
Funny, I never claimed to be a liberal or a democrat. In fact, I'm a republican, and I cannot stand Bush!! Feels so good to 'come out', whew!
Back to more pressing matters, don't knock the hippies. The courage to stand up publicly, stand for change and for what's right and stray from the herd is a virtue I am sure you know nothing about. Or should I say, baaaaa... Make more sense now? Every person must make their own way, nothing should be given for free. But it is also the responsibility of those who can to lend a helping hand. Not a handout but a handup, It's not liberal bullcrap, it's called Christianity. There but for the grace of God go I, heard that one before?! And truthfully, if we didn't all rely so much on the freaking idiots in power in the middle east, The Bin Ladens & The Bush's, we wouldn't have to worry about their damn oil and our 'world collapsing'. Geez, ride a bike you lazy ass! It would be worth it to me if we could just say, 'Figure it out on your own, grow up. We don't need you anymore.' We've done all we can/should do there. Just went in and made a big mess, killed a few key leaders, some innocents and made room for oil rights and pipelines for the Saudis.
kevin, were you also a warrior with Tolkiens underworld too? Let's see, you fully admit to knowing what it's like to be hated - what a shock! You can barely put two sentences together, I frankly don't believe you were ever anykind of a soldier/medic/nurse, that you ever knew Jessica Lynch, or that you ever left the confines of your teeny-bopper bedroom. You sound like a snot-nosed teenager spewing garbage and lies on your precious little computer while mommy makes your dinner for you. Eat-it Kevin, your nose is running!
By the way, my prayers go out to Tillman's family, he represented what's good about our country. He chose to fight for his country regardless of the personal cost, which is what our soldiers are doing everyday! If the majority of American's would take the time to make better choices about what they drive maybe we wouldn't have to send so many of our young and best to fight in backwater countries for the privilege of filling up our gas-guzzling cars! People are dying for God's sake, why can't idiots at home stop driving these ridiculous behemoth's and have some respect for those sacrificing for us?!
A hippy. Wow, as a Navy CDR, I have never been called a hippy!
I so hoped that George W. Bush would have stepped up to the plate like Roosevelt did after Pearl Harbor. With in two years of December 7th 1941, we had 6 million men in arms and were beating the crap out of both the Germans and the Japanese. Under this administration we no longer have what is perceived as the most powerful military in the world. As George Bush stood on top of that pile of rubble in New York he could have done he wanted to do. He had 94% approval. He muffed the chance and we must live with his mistakes. There are several good books out on the subject. I recommend Cobra II and Fiasco. Tommy Franks book is interesting for the fact that he had no interest in what happened after we got to Baghdad. We won every day of the war for the first two weeks and we have lost every day since. What a shame to have wasted such an opportunity.
I've just stumbled across this site - it appears to be a lot of brainwashed loonies arguing among themselves. Surely you realised this is how governments spin such events ?
Doesn't matter which of your political parties is in power (I don't know which is which anyway) - you'll still be given the same sort of propaganda to try and gloss over their mistakes
The rest of the world knows that americans have lost the plot, are deeply unpopular throughout the world - not just Islamic countries - and are currently suffering paranoia that everyone is against them.
Certainly, until you change your agressive, militaristic ways, that last bit will remain absolutely true
where do you live kevin so old warrier and i can come and teach you what it means to stand up for your country. i remember the oath i took when i joined the service it said i would defent thes country from ALL enemies foreign and domestic. in my mind you are a domestic enemy and deserve to be treated as such. by the way i didnt' take MY oath lightly as a matter of fact i still live by it so if you are man enough let me know.
tb - your idea of stopping buying middle east oil is good - you wouldn't have enough to continue your gas guzzling, polluting lifestyle which is such a threat to the rest of the world through global warming
well kevin i'm waiting. YELLOW BELLIED COWARD
While President Eisenhower was not the first president to warn us about the rising power of the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex (MICC) not since LBJ's war in Vietnam has it been so blatantly obvious.
One need only follow Deep Throat's advise to realize how much faith and credibility we as a nation and this administration have lost in the past 4 years. And people wonder why combat vets are so unwilling to expose themselves to such vitriolic ignorance of the realities of modern warfare.
How fortunate that we only have pictures of Lindy as a memento of their sacrifice instead of a naked little girl screaming in terror and pain as she runs away from her napalmed school. It is not that such pictures don't exist. We are just prevented from seeing them - in the name of national security, aka CYA.
Unlike the collateral damage in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, the Iraqi's will still have something we need long after this 'crusade' is over. I wonder what lies we will be told the next time the MICC wants something.
i guess i was correct kevin is just as i said a yellow bellied coward who hid behind his nurses uniform instead of fighting for our country he may have been there but he hid in a hospital WIMP
as far as i'm concerned pvt lynch was and is more of a man than 'mr. kevin cormier' if you want to call kevin a man
If any of you were familiar with 'The Project For a New American Century' you would know what this Iraq war is all about. The minute the election was resolved i turned to my wife and said 'we're going into iraq. it's just a question of when and why.' These are the same people who called for regime change in iraq when clinton was in office. if they were calling for it back then, what do you think their agenda was going to be when they were in the white house? I would say wake up America, you've been duped, but it was all out there in black and white. the American people get the leaders they deserve. this war was a crock from the beginning and it's a crock now.
Pat Tillman's death was a a tragedy of war. Friendly fire, like collateral damage, is the simple term used to describe tragic mistakes in the inherently violent, destructive, and quite often confusing nature of war. The most gallant soldier can fall because of these as if he were the meekest.
Our initial attack on Al Quaida in their protected 'state' under the Taliban was perhaps the only justified action in the last 4 years of conflict. In our present 'conflict' (I would say 'holding action') in Iraq, our soldiers are being wasted. Wasted because the mission is unworthy of their sacrifices. To this date, no individual, from the President down, has mentioned a single goal worth the lives of thousands of Americans. Their lives have been wasted by their own Commander in Chief as he attempts to justify his unjustifiable decisions.
Wow, hozdaddy, how insightful of you to have picked out Saddam's Iraq as a target! Yeah, sure, some people in Washington were calling for regime change, but it isn't like Iraq had any significance to anyone apart from that, right? I mean, it isn't like we had a TWELVE YEAR MILITARY BLOCKADE OF IRAQ!!!, right? It isn't like Saddam ATTACKED FIVE NATIONS WITHIN FIFTEEN YEARS, right? You must have been really astute to have picked up on Iraq when Saddam had never done anything to draw world attention and censure to himself!
Kevin Cormier.., you are totally f..k'd. Hopefully no one gave you a loaded weapon.
Voluntary cessaton of our using mideast oil won't happen for decades, if ever. That idea is simply not useful as a productive argument toward resolving this Iraqi conflict.
Yes Christina, we must 'find' a way. The facts are different now than before we invaded Iraq.
Jeanie, the American people elected this group to office, twice. I believe the credit should be shared amongst all responsible. Thus an appropriate question might be.., 'how do we as Americans become better connected to reality'?
Beltway Greg, I think you have your eyes, ears and mind open, therefore, I think you already know the answers. Great questions to post though.
It is an interesting fact about oil imports, that the European Union must import much of their oil, because they hardly produce any (outside of Britain), but use quite a bit. The EU produces about 4% of world oil production, but accounts for 18% of world oil consumption. And, 45% of the oil the EU imports comes from the Middle East; almost 7% of EU oil comes from Iran, and almost 13% comes from Saudi Arabia.
In contrast, the United States produces 2.5 times more oil than the EU does, and only imports 17% of its oil from the Middle East, none of it from Iran. Most of the oil the U.S. imports comes from Canada; the second largest source of U.S. oil is Mexico, with Saudi Arabia coming in as a close 3rd place.
