B) All these entertainment folks talking about global warming and all other issues is irritating just because they want publicity for themselves rather than the cause. Dont be surprised if Sheryl crow is about to release yet another random crappy album in a month's time from now.

Its quite a pity that these celebrity's think their opinion reflects everyones opinion. People like Crowe and others should just stick to what they are good at... Looking good and singing music. Politics should be left to Politicians and shouldn't be criticized by people who have absolutely no idea what their job requires of them.

I also would deny Crowe touching me unless i saw her wash those grubby hands before she did so. I mean Seriously, who starts their 'political career' (I use this term VERY loosely as its not a career but a desperate cry for CD Sales) lobbying to only use one sheet of toilet paper, or 3 if its a sticky mess. Why don't we just break out the 3 seashells like in 'Demolition man'. I feel saddened to think that the world views us as a country that worries about how much toilet paper we use instead of poverty and oppression.

Heres an idea for you Crowe, Why don't you keep that mouth shut about global warming issues, that you know nothing about, and all that hot air that you held back should have a bigger impact on global warming than just using one piece of TP.

way for everyone to really focus on the TP issue instead of the greater issue here-- global warming and the US government's blind eye to the precarious position they are putting the ecosystem and future generations in. I find it appalling that educated people still deny that global warming is an issue. The best scientists in the world, conservative or not, have come together and stated that this is a serious problem that needs immediate attention. Governments throughout the world are adopting new methods to reduce greenhouse gases and try to couteract harmful emissions, and yet the US government chooses instead to pretend the situation is a ploy by Al Gore to regain popularity.

Shame on Rove for being close minded to an issue that many americans, silent and vocal, are concerned about.

Not that I like Karl Rove, but you just don't touch someone who doesn't really like you in the first place... especially if you are condescending to them. As for the global warming issue, well, you can’t say that all of the data is in because it isn’t. Add to that the fact that many studies are flawed because of the particular political orientation of the sponsors of the research, and you have a hazy picture at best.

You’ll note that the particular questions she asked of Rove and the manner in which she asked them (combative, accusative, lovey-dovey, etc) aren’t mentioned… just her perception of how she was treated. A very one sided story.

As for the following part…
“Karl, according to David, replied: 'I don't work for you, I work for the American people.' Adding Sheryl stated, 'We are the American people.'” Well Sheryl, you are not the American people… you are two of them and I would thank you not to speak for me in the future.

Sheryl and her partner in cause are just another pair of people in the US that don't understand science.

Global Warming is happening, and historically it IS natural.

There is ZERO conclusive evidence that what is happening with our climate is NOT natural progression of the universe.

When one abandons reason, logic and scientific observation one comes to the conclusion that the warming trend of our climate is caused by humans and their dealings with the planets.

When one follows logic, reason and scientific observation one comes to the conclusion that the warming trend of our climate has happened before, and will happen again, regardless of human interaction.

The real scientific question is, can humans accelerate the warming process. Answer so far, we don't know.
A follow up would be if we change our behaviors now, will it have any effect on our climate. Answer so far, we don't know.

Karl Rove, Laurie David, and Sheryl Crow -- The Real Story [Byron York]

I just got an eyewitness account of the Karl Rove-Laurie David-Sheryl Crow encounter at the White House Correspondents Dinner Saturday night, and it suggests that David and Crow were a bit more confrontational than they portrayed themselves in their own account of the incident, published in the Huffington Post. In their story, David and Crow write, 'The 'highlight' of the evening had to be when we were introduced to Karl Rove. How excited were we to have our first opportunity ever to talk directly to the Bush Administration about global warming.'

The eyewitness says the person who introduced David to Rove was the New York Times' Maureen Dowd. I want you to meet Laurie David, Dowd said to Rove. (These are all approximate recollections, so no quotation marks.) Dowd said David would like to say hello.

According to David and Crow, the encounter began with a polite request. 'We asked Mr. Rove if he would consider taking a fresh look at the science of global warming,' they write. 'Much to our dismay, he immediately got combative. And it went downhill from there.'

The eyewitness remembers it a bit differently. Immediately after Dowd's introduction, the witness says, David began lecturing Rove about global warming. This administration has done nothing on the issue, she told Rove. We face a crisis. The time to act is now. This administration has done nothing…

At that point, Rove broke in to say, Well, actually we have done something. Rove mentioned global climate research, at which point David broke in herself to say, You just don't understand. All these questions have been answered. That's worthless. That's useless.

In their account, David and Crow write, 'We reminded the senior White House advisor that the U.S. leads the world in global warming pollution and we are doing the least about it. Anger flaring, Mr. Rove immediately regurgitated the official Administration position on global warming which is that the US spends more on researching the causes than any other country.'

The eyewitness says Rove asked David if she had read the IPCC report, referring to the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which, while confirming a human role in climate change, substantially undermines some of the most catastrophic charges made in Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth,' which David produced. David said she had read the report. 'We felt compelled to remind him that the research is done and the results [the IPCC report] are in,' David and Crow write. 'Mr. Rove exploded with even more venom. Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, Mr. Rove launched into a series of illogical arguments regarding China not doing enough thus neither should we. (Since when do we follow China's lead?)'

In the eyewitness' version, again, David and Crow are a bit more aggressive than their own story suggests. The eyewitness says David told Rove, You need to bring in new people to tell you the truth. Rove mentioned Dr. John Marburger, the White House science advisor. At that point, according to the eyewitness, Crow began poking Rove's chest with her finger, demanding to know what corporations were underwriting Marburger's work. Rove said Marburger had been in academia most of his career.

With Crow jabbing him in the chest, Rove turned to take his seat. Then, the witness says, Crow grabbed his arm. A few more words were exchanged, and it was over. At the Huffington Post, David and Crow described the ending this way: 'In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, 'Don't touch me.' How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unfazed, Sheryl abruptly responded, 'You can't speak to us like that, you work for us.' Karl then quipped, 'I don't work for you, I work for the American people.' To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, 'We are the American people.''

In light of the eyewitness' account, another way of saying it might be, How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be jabbed in the chest by Sheryl Crow?

however, scientists do agree that the change in the atmosphere is likely harmful to human existance, and therefore should be avoided

In N.America, the emmisions regs are superior to any others in the world. That is the main reason China and other Asian countries have our work and are gainning in the market. They have virtually no smog, ozone, or chemical restictions...wtf. go yell at them. Hell I bet you dont even recycle, turn off all your lights, have a compost or do carpool. I DO! You are the problem.. yes you are the problem. You have to realize this!!! Go look in the mirror and say that to yourself. then go do your part.

In all seriousness though.. think of the markets, jobs, industries, and communication lost. What will happen to your local mechanics or oil change shops when we switch to the new eco form of transportations.. Think of our defence capabilities.. You think your gonna get to the moon on water today. And so much more, like the cost of solar, trying to replace your power company.. they will find some way for you to pay a fixed rate or large some to obtain it.. This will not be an over night process. This will be a transition.. slow esp now. This way the US can stay stable and influence the world... not just be the only ones to care and make the changes.

The one thing that does piss me off is the power/lights used at closed places at night. Go google a satalite view of America lite up vs. the rest of the world.

Rove knows what is best at this point in time... Sadly weather you know it or not.

I'd like Ms. Crow to spend a week following me around to the toilet and show me just how I'm supposed to make do with one square of T.P. 1. How silly of the media to pick up on singer's blog and make it news. If the media has no other source for this story beside her's, then they are lacking in substance and credibility. If they lack credibility on such a simple story, how can we trust this media source in particular when they report on anything of true substance such as global warming?

2. How shallow are we, the American people, that we even care what a 2nd rate singer thinks? Someone above stated it perfectly - her actions are a cry for attention and CD sales, nothing more. Our actions of listening to her cries are pathetic. Buy her CD's if you like her music, but don't confuse popularity with significance, intelligence or relevance.

3. If she truly cared about the issue, she'd be doing green concerts, unplugged and acoustical, to save energy and reduce greenhouse emissions from the enormous amount of power it takes to run a modern pop concert. Oh, but that's not a popular venue, and she'd have a hard time filling more than a couple of nights worth of concerts that way. It would be BORING. She'd also change her touring entourage from several huge buses to electric vehicles, and perhaps simply put her guitar and road gear into the trunk of a few Prius' and hit the road. But no, you won't see the singer changing any of the activities that make money for her.

4. Use less toilet paper? Are you kidding? Did that actually make the news?

We need a brain infusion, America! Just please, don't take take donations from 2nd rate Canadian singers.

There is good reason to suspect that humans' activity is accelerating global warming, but it is true that there is no conclusive proof of this. The problem is that we are on uncharted territory here. Never before in the history of this planet have atmospheric CO2 levels risen as quickly as they are rising now. So with all our observations and computer models, the best we can do is extrapolate what will happen as a result - at least until a conclusive experiment is performed.

Fortunately, we are doing just such an experiment right now. As long as the environmentalists don't succeed in muddying up the experiment by slowing down CO2 emissions, we should know conclusively within 50 years what the true effect of all that CO2 really is.

While we're waiting for the experimental results to come in, this might be a good time to invest in future beachfront property in Greenland.

Thanks, Ms. Crow - you've just alienated another politician to the cause of global warming. Any legitimate lobbyist knows you cannot confront people you've just met and expect them to take you seriously. Maybe some time spent shadowing a successful lobbyist might teach you a little something about how to talk to people when you have an agenda, why its vitally important to establish rapport and a common frame of reference, and discover what their true position is on the issues, and then get your message across without alienating them or shutting them down. Once they stop listening - you're done! You've done much more harm than good. Don't give up your day job.

Fire away with the anti-Canadian commie stuff if you wish, but maybe you would like to live here for a while, get some free health care and safe high quality public education for your children, and the choice to vote for a number of political parties which limits the concentration of power of the government. And if you doubt that the world is warming, try living in a northern climate where the signs are present to everyone and doubted by few. No political party in Canada doubts climate change, they would not get elected if they did. If you are interested in our politics, try looking at our current issues on the web rather than demonizing the country. Perhaps they are also deluding themselves that unicorns and faith healers aren't real too! It never ceases to amaze me how nuts always blame their own imagined delusions of others for failing to believe in their superstitions. This is as true for Crow and her cohorts in the global warming scam as it is with scientologists, christians, muslims, any all others who believe in the supernatural and expect others to follow them.

Crow should learn the facts, learn some real science instead of parroting the propaganda of pseudoscience scammers popularized by socialists for their own goals.

CO2 is entirely insificant as a greenhouse gas on earth, water vapor making up very nearly 100% of it. Water and water alone regulates the earth's temperature. Water cntrols how much of the sun's energy gets to the surface and how much gets out. Of course there are other variables including the sun's output and the internal heat generated by the earth, but in no way is the CO2 even relevant.

As for the USA producing the most 'global warming pollution' *whatever that BS term is supposed to mean), The Philippines and Indonesia each (being mostly water) contribute more than the USA in water vapor, and the sea floor of the Bahamas releases more methane than the US by far as well. How about adding up the active volcanoes in each country for comparison?

The whole global warming hoax is a silly pseudo-science scam bought into by idiots with no clue regarding nature or science following scammers with degrees who make good money selling chicken little scams. There is NO science in the global warming hoax. None what so ever.

Greetings, WOW! I didn't realize they're is so much hatred for Sheryl Crow! Rove can get away with starting an illegal war, kill hundreds of thousands of people, throw my hard earned taxdollars to his cronies, but Ms Crow says something about toilet paper &, well, she's obviously nuts! People, get a grip on reality. Is toilet paper a much more important subject than global warming & war? I'm astounded by the venom put forth by small minded ones. But then again, look who's ruining, I mean running our country. Sincerely neil

Karl Rove and the administration he is part of are all extremely arrogant individuals. They spout the party line -- which is not really the party line, just Rove's Cheny's and Bush's line. I put Bush last, because all of his ideas are someone elses ideas for which he takes credit.

As far as entertainers speaking about their causes, they have every right to speak up, after all, are we the common people in a position to be heard. We should start thinking and acting positively on the global warming issue before we have nothing more to worry about -- a world to live in, wild animals to enjoy, beautiful vistas to enjoy. Wake up Bush, Rove must go or at least shut him up.

Global Warming . . . The newest brainwashing for the heads filled with mush. Three squares of toilet paper pretty much sums up the root intelligence of this cause's 'unwashed' minions. Is Karl Rove the anti-christ? Probably not. Is Ms. Crow very bright? Probably not either. Reality is that pollution is bad and it is to all our advantage to clean up the environment as best we can and since the brightest and best minds are either bred or educated in the USA the charge should be lead here. The problem lies with the fear tactics the 'Green' movement employs. Thinking, independent minds realize that the climatic changes of the Earth are historic and real. The rub is whether or not man (who by the way is not almighty) is causing it or the world is simply changing as is has many times over the last million or so years. These dramatic changes recorded in the past by tree rings and ice cores happened well before the ability to track CO2 emmissions. Bottomline, we need to operate in as environmentally friendly a way as possible but without the whithering assault on anyone who disagrees with the flawed (no matter what NPR and the UN say) science & religion of Global Warming.

the 'one piece of tp' comment was odd, for sure, but come on, people with a voice sometimes say stuff like that. Overall, do you think Sheryl Crow is a clean person? I mean, duh, yes of course she is. Also, she does something, besides sell records and sound good. I know when people are ultra green, they seem weird, but overall, she's trying to spread a good message, which is, 'think about how you're living'. There aren't many 'perfect' sounding people trying to represent that, but for God sake's, the woman is far from bizarre, and I certainly would let her touch my arm, and I certainly would have her over for coffee or dinner or whatever. She's alright, she's a good gal. And I don't have to agree with everything she says, but she says enough that I do. How many of your (anyone's) friends have quirks, but you still like and trust them? How many of them are publicly active even though they don't have to be? That's that matters to me. Working on something when you don't personally have to.

an appended note: while Sheryl Crow has quirks, I like and respect her, and would let her touch my arm and come over for dinner anytime, etc. That said, I cannot say the same for anyone in Bush's Cabinet. Oh, I'd have a sit down with anyone of them and discuss what I don't like about their choices, as far as one reasonably could, ergo, 'how can you justify all these choices, from the war, to the spending , to the conflict of interest in Haliburton receiving all contracts there, intelligence facts omitted or twisted, 9-11's aftermath on the citizens of Manhattan, and the waves of rescue volunteers there sick or dying - denied Federal aid for health care [Google George Tabb]...' I'd have a lot of questions, I'd ask in a calm tone, I'd try to get as much understanding as possible. But seeing these men and a few women in that cabinet, in action, speaking, over these last several, long years... I do not think I'd any more accept their illogical, suspiciously dark, unexplained, tactical backpedaling and rhetoric. I see no honor in their convictions or actions, I see no accountability for obvious, bloody mistakes and miscalculations, I see no compassion, I see no true Christian values in their touted Christian ideology - I'm not Christian, but I can respect the actual value system, when someone actually practices it, they do not. I see none of the responsibility of elected - and appointed but not elected - leaders. I see a gang, now on the run. Running up a massive dept in cash and blood, with no accounting for how we'll really pay for all that has been set in motion. For the 10 or 30, or 100, or 400,000 people killed in the Middle East (United Nations estimates of peoples killed in Iraq, other than American/Foreign soldiers/workers), with our own 3-4,000 military, etc...
What is this country saying, in its actions? For it seems to be a confusing message, it seems to be bloody chaos. I believe, because it has become bloody chaos. Because things now fit the familiar patterns, of past wars.
After World War I, W.B.Yeats, bright man, said, ''Things fall apart, the center cannot hold.'
He said that after the allies failed to bring the center of stability back, after the war, and extremists then took over German, Italy, and Russia (quoted: Deepak Chopra, 2006, Intent Blog), which became the core of World War II, the cold war, about a century of hard, hard history lessons.
The politics and fighting today, have happened before. The results, once it takes a direction, run along the same lines as before. You can get a really clear idea where all this is going. Its not going to be a clean victory for anyone. We, America, or should I say, the White house, still touts we can have a 'clean' victory, a true military win, where the bad guys stop or are all killed.
In truth, that's impossible. Because the 'bad guys' are a mix of radicals, mixed with indigenous peoples whom don't want us in their back yards, (if you were defending your backyard/family, wouldn't you be... the good guy??), and centuries old religious hatreds between the peoples there.
There is no way to win that. There is no target. It becomes open ended bedlam. Chaos. A meat grinder you can pour money and bullets and bombs and people's lives into forever. It will eat it all. Because it has before.
Everything has happened before. And only because we make it, will happen again.
And that is the historic reality, that causes me so much trouble in buying what anyone in the White Houses, anyone supporting it, says. I see the ship going down. In icy waters. On fire. And the band keeps on playing calmly.

It is fair to say that most of the 'Environmental Leftist' have never looked up the evidence available about this planet and the stages it has progressed through over the millions of years. If they had, they would realize that we are in the midst of another correction.

As to Karl Rove's comment about China, well, my son just returned from studying in China and had the opportunity to visit numerous off the beaten path cities. He provided actual pictorial evidence of how polluted China is with photo's of one city where you could not see more than 2 blocks and thatr was in mid day on a 'sunny' day. He and another student tried to jog one day and could only make it a few blocks before their lungs began to burn from the air pollution.

Perhaps the Environmentals should take a trip to China, go to their polluted cities, lands and water ways, then confront the Chinese government in a large protest, play their guitars, drive their Prius to Tinanamen Square to denounce their pollution. Then take a slowboat back from China, because if you really know the truth, the Environmentals are smoking too much of the green stuff.

Also, do we really need to have Laura David fly on a private jet causing more pollution or Sheryl Crow on the road giving concerts? Just mail it in ladies.

The Nazi-like Karl Rove: frosts, fumes, combative, anger flaring, exploded with venom, arguments, spat, regurgitated, hardened, removed from reality, went downhill, deluded, illogical, spoiled child, and tantrum. Whew!

The Mother Teresa-like Sheryl Crowe: asks, reminded him, compelled, heartbroken, reached out, and touched. Sniff, sniff.

Yup, fair and unbiased is the perfect description.

Here's how you use one square. Tear off a square of toilet paper. Fold said paper twice. now the square (folded) is one-fourth its original size. Carefully tear off the inside corner, and set it aside. Unfold the square. you will note a hole in the center of the square where you tore off the corner. Place your index finger through the hole and clean yourself. Pull the square off your finger, cleaning the finger as you go. Throw away the square. Last, use the saved corner to clean your fingernail. Neat, huh?

Karl Rove has established himself as unethical and immoral - he is truly ruled by the adage that the means are justified by the end and the only ends that are important for him to pursue are those that serve his personal benefit. When America removes Rove, Chaney, and Bush, maybe we can gain some level of respect in the World. Personally, I would like to see Rove, Bush, and Chaney tried for fraud and treason, after they are out of office and can no longer hide behind executive privilege.
