it has taken me over 40 years to get over the low-down, 'below-the-belt', nasty, angry and humiliating stuff my father said to me from the ages of 12-20. In fact, I Haven't Gotten Over Most of It, to this day. He kept on doing the angry, controlling dad thing, off and on, all during those 40 years [I'm 57 now and consider myself a surviver of abuse]. It took his death for me to start getting over it [2 years ago]--I'm just now starting to crawl out of the cocoon I had to wrap myself in, to survive. A blight on my life. And still, I loved the generous parts of him. He was one of those guys who were uncommonly decent to everyone BUT his family. It saddens and disgusts me on many levels, to hear of these supposedly adult people acting so wrongly--BOTH parents. I don't excuse the mother one bit. I hope this little girl gets--and soon-- parents who have the decency to become adults, who can rein themselves in from doing the wrong thing. Actors! Always flapping their big mouths off.

Having had to live through a divorce as a child, the language that Mr Baldwin used was all too familiar. I spent many years reflecting and recovering from my parents irrational behavior as it left some rather deep scars. While my father's anger seemed unfounded I now can understand his frustrations and I feel I can understand Mr. Baldwin's loss of temper. It surely aren't justified, but I think one should be compassionate for the problem is much deeper then this single incident. Its unlikely that the problems are all one sided.

I feel sorry for all involved.. Especially the child since she is likely scarred. This particular event is probably only one of a long line of abuse. I don't feel however that Mr. Baldwin should be barred from his daughter completely and I also don't feel that Ms. Basinger should go to jail. Both are ridiculous outcomes that only hurt the child further. Hopefully they can both learn from this event and find some compromise that's in the best interest for Ireland.

What kind of a mother is Kim Basinger to let her daughter be humiliated world wide and forever be referred to as a 'pig'. The father said it, but the 'loving' mother provided it to the world to hear.

Kim, it is time to start thinking about the long-term impacts to your daughter and not your emotional revenge against Alec Baldwin. I certainly don't agree with the rantings by Alec Baldwin, but I'm horrified that a mother would degrade her daughter to the world just to make the father look bad in the eyes of the public. Doesn't look like either one of you deserves custody of this girl.

I think the whole scenario is a real laugh, and those expressing 'outrage' are both idiotic and hypocritical.I am willing to bet that every one of our parent's ( Correction, sorry, every one of our parents who were 'good' parents rather than those who were kids themselves who made the easy mistake of trying to be their kid's 'friend' rather than their parent) has said things to every one of us that were a lot worse than 'you are a little pig', and odds are also good that we deserved it for pushing our parents beyond the normal boundaries of frustration. That's what kids do, and parents get mad at them and snap back. .

When I was growing up, before the idiocy of 'political correctness' it was also part of growing up to have respect for your parents and to do as you were told or get introduced to 'the belt' - as most kids were - and my generation for the most part grew up respectful, polite, caring, self sufficient, responsible and able to take care of our own problems ourselves.

One thing that no one mentions that I find odd: what is an 11 year old kid doing with a cell phone to begin with?

He should be apologizing to his daughter...not his fans. He just doesn't get it!!! Typical abuser, let's now act like the victim and made an issue on how it was leaked. Come on! You, Alec said those thing and no one else. Apologize to your daughter and get help for yourself.

I have raised six, wonderful, healthy and now mature children who adore and respect me There were many times I talked to them harshly in an 'outburst of parental guidance'.

If I did not PARENT, love and have a concern about their behavior. I would have ignored their disrespectfull behavavior toward a parent figure and they would have become 'me me me' adults.

Instead my children realize that love and guidance is a 180 degree relationship, and as a parent who truly 'Parents' they were able to differentiate between the best and not so best.

I think both parents are in the wrong. I think Ms. Basinger really uses her daughter as a pawn in this custody dispute. I think this is something they needed to work out in private not for the whole world to hear. How could she have released this tape to the media that is just as bad as the words Mr. Baldwin used. And like the old saying ' Two wrongs dont make a right' This will affect this litle girl the rest of her life. One day she will not want to have anything to do with either one of them because they both made her life so miserable. The parents can hate each other but they need to be together with raising their child. It is patheic what Ms. Basinger has done to try and get a foot up on this custody battle. Yeah battle is right score 1 for Ms. Basinger and zero for her daughter. I have two children and they can push you to your limits and sometimes you do say things that you regret. My kids have 2 parents that have raised them together not by raising them against the other parent.
I kind of feel Ms. Basinger is jealous of Mr. Baldwin's success has a actor because she is pretty much a has-been.

While you may have understanding for Alex Balwins words it is far harder to give a positive spin to his tone. He was angry. He was out of control. His quick temper leads me to believe he is abusive. His daughter should be scared of him. He is an unfit father.

It would be great if all these Right-Wing FOX news watchers would paid this much attention to our failed 600Billion dollar war along with a criminal like Gonzales. Actually the Baldwin tapes got more plays on FOX news than the Alberto Gonzales hearings.....SURPRISED??????

Any Father who has ever had his child brainwashed and held hostage by their Mother surely understand's Mr. Baldwin's frustration and anger. Many daughters have been trained to spit on and bite the hand that feeds and loves them (their Fathers), where the only time they will even speak with them is to ask for money, and refuse to acknowledge his existence except when they need him to fork over more money which is never enough.

To declare Mr. Baldwin was not justified in his frustration is what is preposterous, and to deny a Father the right to see his child because he voiced that frustration is absurd.

Children today believe they are *entitled* to everything with no effort or accountability or responsibility on their part, and these trophy children simply feel it is a privilege for us to even have them show up and speak to us.

Here is a classic example: youtube.com/watch?v=E-HImhFFpuY, and if that doesn't come up, go to youtube.com, enter 'spoiled rotten teen girl' - watch the video, then see the girls response in another video below. And this is how American girls have been trained.

BRAVO to Mr. Baldwin to have the courage to ATTEMPT to instill some sense of responsibility into his child. Unfortunately, she has been already well trained to be the narcissistic disrespectful irreverent woman her mother has set the example for.

Our system has failed Fathers everywhere in denying them the ability to instill responsibility and the ability to teach their child appreciate what they have, and to earn it by being respectful and responsible, because the Mothers pound it into their brains it is not good enough, not enough, and never will be.

BRAVO, Mr. Baldwin, and hats off to you - a high five from suppressed, frustrated and lonely Fathers everywhere whose children have been trained to believe they are nothing more than a walking ATM machine and sperm bank whose sole purpose in life to a woman is to impregnate them to ensure their future financial security! No wonder so many Fathers leave the home never to return.

i think there needs to be more parents like baldwin... i'm sure she did something pretty awful to deserve what he said to her. lets not forget it is hollywood, and we have the likes of paris hilton and nicole richie, to name a few, as role models. there needs to be more parents who speak up and yell at their kids to teach them right from wrong. i'm not saying yelling at your daughter all the time is OK, but in the few instances where she may deserve it, it's totally reasonable. might not be the best approach always, but i'm sure it was taken out of context...i doubt he treats his daughter like that ALL THE TIME (and IF he does, he shouldn't be able to see her, but i DOUBT thats the situation). thats all.

You people are idiots.
This isn't about Hollywood, or politics, its about divorce. Everyone who has been through a bad divorce or witnessed one will tell you that leaving an angry message is nothing. People take this out of context, this wasn't just some Tuesday with Baldwin ranting at his daughter- they are in the middle of a bitter divorce, and particulars are no one's goddamn business. It's lose-lose situation, maybe Bassinger thinks she's won a few brownie points- showed what a bastard the husband is, but in the long term she might go down in her daughter's memory as the woman who used her as a pawn in larger custody/money battle. In divorce things are best kept as private as possible, but its hard to have perspective when you're in the middle of it.

It's amazing how many people in these messages think that Baldwin's behavor is acceptable and common.
If that is acceptable and common in your life then you need serious help.

The man is a complete idiot. He's a high profile person, and yet he's so stupid that he leaves this psychotic rant on a recording device.

I've never heard a parent talk to an 11 year old like this. He is a low life degenerate who should have no contact with his daughter.
It's good that this recording came out. It may have saved his daughter from physical harm.

Typical leftist, don't think all that hate just ends at Bush do you? A hater is a hater is a hater. Likely Ireland just had enough, quit answering the phone when it was him. Wouldnt surprise me if her mother was just as vile. Poor kid, she didnt ask for any of it, probably just wants to be kid. Then this crap, can be sure that it wasn't the first time, he sounded very well practiced, and now the whole world knows.

Aww, poor Baldwin is angery we found out he was what we always suspected. Poor little feller. What a tough guy threatening his own daughter, a child, No need for guess work now.

He got caught with his mouth in the cookie jar. You do not speak to a child that way, their is no excuse. If he can be like that to his daughter, think of what went on in that home. His outburst whoa! when things do not go his way. Ah! give the woman her child. The Baldwin Boys should never have children the are dysfunctional, abd suffer from substance abuse, the children is the ones who suffers.

Does anyone know what the kid did to deserve such stern words? Maybe she did something really stupid, but news is so much juicier when only one side of the story is talked about. Maybe these three clowns have been bickering using harsh words amongst themselves, but only one is unfortunate enough to get itself recorded. An 11 year old is capable of using foul language and behavior that warrants a good yelling. Meanwhile a grown woman is capable to manipulating a child into treating her father like poop.
