Snoop Dogg has been spared jail after pleading no contest to gun and drug charges.

The rapper entered the plea in relation to charges of the sale or transportation of marijuana and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.

Snoop was handed a five years' probation period, a three-year-suspended sentence and 800 hours of community service.

The 35-year-old star - who also agreed to make public announcements against violence - could have been jailed for four years.

Judge Terry Smerling laid down the conditions of Snoop's probation at the Los Angeles court hearing yesterday (11.04.07).

The star can only spend 400 hours of his community service working with the youth American Football league he helped found.

The judge also ruled Snoop must provide authorities a DNA sample and he must have a medical permit if he uses marijuana.

Snoop's lawyer Donald Etra said the rapper-and-actor smokes marijuana because he has migraines and has a medical permit under state law.

If Snoop violates his probation he faces three years in jail.

The star - real name Calvin Broadus - was arrested at California's Burbank airport last October, after police found a handgun and marijuana in his car.

Another gun was found in his Los Angeles home last November following a police search.

The 'Drop It Like It's Hot' star is forbidden from ever owning a gun, following his conviction for possession of drugs for sale in 1990.

He is currently facing separate charges relating to the discovery of a collapsible baton found in his bag at Orange County's John Wayne Airport last September.

Smart move on Mr. Snoop D.'s part. Obviously he has a good lawyer. Having a weapon of any sort is out of the question. He can hire professional security who will provide him with all the security he could ever possibly need. He's a very smart man and I admire his intelligence and enormous talent. One other thing stop flying commercial and consider private aviation. It's faster, more comfortable and, well, private.

If it was me, I would be penalized to the fullest extent of the law. Why do these so called celebrities get away with this stuff. Seems like money does by the judicial system. It's a crime unto itself.

Once again the judicial system caters to the rich and influential. Any other man with the record Snoop has would of been spending the next few years in prison. The judge probably asked for Snooper's autograph after the trial.
I am just sorry Snoop didn't try to use his gun like the 'Gangsta'' he pretends to be, the 'Gangsta'' mentality he pushes down the throats of the country's impressionable kids. It would of been good riddance to bad rubbish, and it would of made a good Cops episode too.
Snoop Dog, hahah he is a joke, he has always been a joke and always will be. But not as much as the judicial system is a joke. Maybe the coward judge was afraid if he threw Snooper in jail he would of caused riots, which is the norm for Snoop's type of followers.

Write a rap song about that Snooper.
Here let me do it for you:
'My name is Snoop,
I act like a dog,
Everybody says I stink like a hog.
The law is just a joke to little ole' me,
But everyone can see the joke is on me...
And you...,
And you...hahahahaha,
And you...'

Go ahead and do the rest Snooper Scooper.

The 'medical marijuana' excuse is a crock. If he really has migraines, as I do, there are a dozen different drugs on the market that are very effective in treating or preventing them. I am offended - he gives migraine sufferers a bad name.

people need to realize that celebs are always watched and sometimes they are targeted just because. Snoop is a great person that treats people well and gives back to his community. as for the gun...i think it is understandable to have a need to protect yourself. look at Biggie and Tupac. the police are certainly not there to protect us and the truth of the matter is you have to be careful. as for the weed...give it up people, this country has no problem sending over innocent people to murder other innocent people, but weed which does not kill is illegal? cigarettes and alcohol, which does kill, is looked at as normal. So in conclusion, we need to stop judging those who we want to be guilty and look at those who are guilty.

To the person who said Snoop gives migraine sufferers a bad name, I have to say you are wrong. The people who get migraines aren't seen as bad in this situation, it is the doctors who are seen as bad. Celebrities do get preferential treatment. Any other felon would have been going to jail for being in possession of a gun. But, why does Snoop need a gun in the first place? He has a huge posse that I'm sure are always packing heat, so the fact that he got caught with a gun makes him look stupid. Also, if all you need is a permit from a doctor to legally carry marijuana you might as well just go ahead and make it legal. Just look at Anna Nicole Smith, she was able to get prescriptions for a whole CVS supply of drugs. As long as you have the money, and doctors can sell it to you they will. And Snoop definitely has the money, so, I'm sure if he doesn't have a permit for marijuana now he will have one shortly.

Money is the lifeblood of our socieyApr 12th, 2007 - 15:35:56

Having a record, criminal record, and busted with guns again would have landed the average person in the pen for sure. The lawyers and judge are people too. They want some of that long green Snoop was happily willing to dole out. Illegal you say? So what else is new? Deals are made every day behind closed doors. If you are so naive to not believe this, well good for you, you probably have never had to deal with our 'hypocritical' justice system, yet. I have no facts to back this up, but I know through experience how it works. IF you have lots of money to spread around, you will get community service. How many of the hundred's of thousand's of inmates across the country are from influential, money based families?
Why do you think they call being wealthy 'influential'???

Haters...

Good for the double GG! He's always seemed a target from the police. When its time to get their yearly new toaster they just look for Snoop. And many people use marijuana medicinally...especially for pain.

Gosh, what a great man, that double G Don't we wish we could all be like him? I guess our crappy little lives are nothing compared to his greatness. Please let him smoke all of the medicinal mary jane he wants, because he's a great man. Let him keep trashing airports and demeaning women, because they must have deserved it. A curse on those nasty policemen for not letting him carry weapons and have his thugs beat on people. What's a righteous man to do, Ileen?
