Ashlee Simpson's love approval

Ashlee Simpson has given her big sister Jessica's new man her seal of approval.

Jessica, 26, was devastated after the sudden breakdown of her marriage to Nick Lachey in 2005 but recently found love again with musician John Mayer - and Ashlee couldn't be happier for her.

A source told People magazine: "Ashlee loves John. She thinks he is great for her. More importantly, Jess is happy."

Newly-brunette Jessica and John, 29, have been dating for eight months. They confirmed rumours they were an item when they attended Jessica's New Year's Eve party.

A source said of the couple, who have just enjoyed a romantic trip to Rome: "John seems very smitten".

Jessica's relationship with Nick was highly publicised and the couple starred in their own reality TV show 'Newlyweds'. This time round, Jessica is keeping her love life more private.

A source said: "When she was with Nick, she was really under her family's thumb. This is a relationship that is all hers."

Christina Milian, who featured in Jessica's 'A Public Affair' video, recently, added: "Clearly this is a relationship that's not for the cameras. It's not about celebrity. It seems like they truly have an attraction to each other."

Ashlee, 22, who followed in Jessica's footsteps to pursue a singing career, has recently been romantically linked with record producer Chad Hugo, Reese Witherspoon's estranged husband Ryan Phillipe and Fall Out Boy star Pete Wentz.
