Justin Timberlake got slimed at the 20th Annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday (31.03.07).

The singer, who hosted the show, had vowed to "break the slime barrier" and escape being covered in green goo - a tradition at the popular ceremony - but ended up being gunged twice at the beginning and the end of the show.

Justin had earlier boasted: "You'll never get a drop of slime on old J.T."

The 'SexyBack' star - who won Favourite Male Singer - wasn't the only celebrity to be covered in slime at the event.

Mandy Moore and 'Spider-Man' star Tobey Maguire were among the others celebrities who also got covered in slime.

Despite his victory, Justin was defeated in another of the event's traditions - losing his title of best burper. The defending belcher champion was challenged to a live burp-off with the 12,000- strong audience, and lost.

Justin said: "Tonight I went head-to-head with every kid in the audience and I don't know if I stood a chance. They came in strong and I gave it a go but it just wasn't good enough."

'Charlotte's Web' actress Dakota Fanning, 13, was named Favourite Female Movie Star, while Beyoncé Knowles took Favourite Female Singer.

Gwen Stefani and Maroon 5 were among those who performed at the event.

The winners were voted for by a record 40 million American children.
