Noel Gallagher wants to be the next British Prime Minister - and has promised to bring back hanging if elected.

The Oasis star insists the major political parties in the UK are not worth voting for, and he is ready to "sort the country out".

Noel - who famously had drinks with current PM Tony Blair after the Labour party won power in 1997 - said: "I'm considering standing for election myself, if I'm honest. I've worked this out and I could sort the country out in a year-and-a-half. I'd definitely bring back hanging for starters. All these violent offenders - you get convicted three times by three separate juries then you're going to the gallows.

"If by any off-chance some evidence comes up that you might have been innocent, and it could be proved beyond all reasonable doubt your next of kin gets £500,000. Vote for me!"

The 39-year-old rocker famously said Blair "was giving hope to the kids of this country" in his award acceptance speech at the 1996 BRITs.

Meanwhile, Noel has issued a come and get me plea to Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis.

The musician is desperate to perform his solo acoustic set - which won rave reviews at this week's Teenage Cancer Trust charity concerts - at the world famous music event and is hoping to be asked.

Noel, who headlined the festival with Oasis in 1995 and 2004, said: "Glastonbury acoustic tent sounds nice. That would be good. If I say that maybe Mr Eavis will give me a call!

"Saying that he'd probably put me on at the same time as Arctic Monkeys. The best slot is second on the bill on the Other Stage. I've never had that slot at Glastonbury, but we've done it at foreign festivals and it's great."
