Paris Hilton's dwarf cat
Mar 27, 2007, 7:00 GMT
Paris Hilton has bought a dwarf cat.
The socialite, who owns a menagerie of pets, was seen clutching the miniature grey feline as she was exiting her car.
Although Paris, 26, is delighted with her new pussy, she has been slammed for purchasing the unusual cat because the specialist breed has numerous health problems.
The cats are said not to be able to function like normal sized animals, and cannot jump properly because their bow legs are too short.
They can also break the bones in their limbs when landing because their legs aren't long enough to absorb the shock.
Hollywood gossip writer Janet Charlton wrote on her website: "She's way off base with her mini-cat. She's got a cat that was bred to be a tiny dwarf and like most dwarves it has short bowed legs.
"Breeding animals to be dwarfs or midgets is unethical and they usually have numerous health problems because of it. They're cute, but not healthy or able to function like a regular cat.
For example these short legged cats can't jump like normal felines and might break bones because their legs aren't long enough to absorb the shock.
Plus they have internal problems.
"But as long as wealthy people like Paris buy these pets, they will be produced by unscrupulous breeders. Paris should think about adopting her cats at a shelter."
As well as her new cat, Paris also owns two Chihuahuas, a goat, a ferret and a kinkajou.

I am a middle class woman who owns 2 dwarf cats plus on my way to a third both of mine as you put it dwarf cats are called munchkins they are very healthy cats and there has been no proven evidence of them having any kind of problems no more then any other cats they have been studying on the oldest ones with no health problems mine as well go to vets and have no health problems and mine do jump and mine are even faster then my long legged ones and you don't have to be rich to own one so please lets not put information out there to the public until proven otherwise.
The person that wrote this is an idiot who obiously doesn't know how to type munchkin cat into a search engine. They are a valid breed with a documented history. They have been studied at length and prove to be healthy and face no particular health risks. Corgis, bulldogs, and other similar shot legged canine breeds commonly have a variety of health problems including hip dysplasia and spinal problems, but no one is saying the breeders of these animals are morally wrong. Simply put it's a breed that is foreign to you and seems odd because you've never seen it so you rush to judgement and paint someone as a horrible person for having one. I'm not saying I like Paris or that she's a responsible pet owner... I don't know anything about the woman. But, when you say that people buying these cats are only feeding into a morally unethical breeding practice when you obviously haven't read any easily available information on a credible breed then you are acting slanderously towards all of us who own munchkin cats. The fact that you didn't realize that this is a TICA recognized breed proves only that you write whatever you think will receive a shocking and enraged response in our favor.

That woman should not be allowed to own animals. They're accessories for her, and when they go out of style she discards them just like last weeks jacket. Gag me.
