Hilary Duff has blamed the media for making her "skinny".
The actress-and-singer, who has attracted criticism for slimming down in recent months, insists she only lost weight after being branded fat.
The newly-brunette star told You magazine: "I did get skinny. I've felt that pressure like everyone in my position. When a newspaper comes out that says, 'Duff Puff - she must have gained 15 pounds', or something like that, how would any normal person react?
"It's so mean, but everyone keeps buying that stuff and talking about it, so it's not going to go away."
Hilary, 19, shot to fame as the title character in hit US TV series 'Lizzie McGuire' in 2001.
Since leaving the show in 2004, Hilary has launched a career as a pop singer and movie actress, appearing in several films inlcuding 'The Perfect Man' and 'Cheaper By The Dozen 2'.
She also has her own clothing line, stuffbyhilaryduff, and her signature scent, 'With Love'.
