Sir Elton John is celebrating his 60th birthday by breaking his own performance record at Madison Square Garden.
The 'Rocket Man' singer will play the world famous New York venue on Sunday (25.03.07), his birthday, for the 60th time. The concert is already sold out.
His previous record of 59 performances is challenged only by the Grateful Dead who have headlined Madison Square Garden 52 times.
One of Elton's most famous performances at the venue was on November 28, 1974, when John Lennon made a surprise appearance by joining him onstage to perform The Beatles classic 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'.
This turned out to be Lennon's last concert performance before he was shot dead on the steps of New York's Dakota Building in 1981.
Before Sunday's concert, Elton will also mark the landmark birthday with a spectacular party at an as-yet-undisclosed location in New York on Saturday night (24.03.07).
