Halle Berry: I wasn't beaten

Halle Berry insists she has never been the victim of domestic violence.

The twice married actress, whose mother was in an abusive relationship, says she would never allow herself to be hit by any man.

She told Reader's Digest magazine: "I haven't been a battered woman, contrary to what people have written about me. I'm so not a battered woman. Have I been in physical altercations with men? Absolutely. But the minute that happens they see the back of me. My mother was a battered woman. She was battered by my dad."

Halle's mother Judith Ann Hawkins and father Jerome J. Berry, divorced when she was just four. She and her older sister Heidi were raised by their mother.

Meanwhile, Halle has denied having plastic surgery.

The 40-year-old star insists she hasn't been under the knife but won't rule out having some work done in the future.

She said: "I haven't had plastic surgery. But that's one thing I'll never say never about, because I don't know. I hope I will evolve as a person who realises it's really not about my physical appearance and not be drawn to that seductive knife."
