These 'Conservatives' you refer to don't seem very conservative to me. True Conservatism means smaller government, less taxes, less social programs, self sufficient economy, strong military for defence not offence, shall I go on?

Sure it is. The colloquial meaning the word is a derogatory one towards gay people. It doesn't matter if he is gay or not, what matters is that she's a gay hater. I don't think Edwards is a 'wus'; if he were Ann wouldn't be threatened by him.
