Seems to me I recall chocolite candy in england called faggot balls and that cigarettes were fags in England. Im not defending but the political correctness pundits go too far.

I have never understood the allure of Coulter, she always seemed like a festering sore to me, contributing nothing good to humanity or even justification for existing. But, what is even worse, is how it seems so many 'do gooder' Republicans and the rightest of the right wing not only salute her but encourage a forum for her...the hypocrisy of such christianity is nothing less than amazing.

Really, can anyone be surprised by Coulter's slur? C'mon, she's been slingin it for years. She's venomous and she's extreme--the serious version of Don Rickles--and to express shock by whatever she says is ridiculous. We'd be remiss if we didn't express outrage, however. And to demand an apology is appropriate, at least from those of us who choose to live in a civil society. I'm trying to think of the equivalent from the Left, and I can't. Al Franken and Harry Shearer are cutting, for sure, and take the mantle of humor to frame their political commentary, but neither of them use slurs in their arsenal.

Yeah, she makes our blood boil, and I think is a total embarrassment to the political Right, but she has the right to say what she does. We're correct in expressing outrage; then we should just turn the station.

Freedom of speech..yes. But she is a person who wants to sensationalize herself. Otherwise she is nothing. Kinda like that other blonde anna nicole smith.

The term faggot means 'a bundle of sticks'. In the days of the Salem Witch hunts when they would burn 'witches' at the stake they would surround the stake with 'Faggots', small bundles of sticks. When the blaze was full on in those days they would also throw on the fire any person suspected or known to be homosexual. Hence the term faggot became commonly attached to homosexuals. By using the term you are essentially saying that you believe homosexuals should be burned alive.

After reading Ann's column in last Sunday's paper, I am wondering how (or why) she became a novelist. Her remarks are like her writings: incoheriant, inconsistant, scattered and lack knowledge of her subject (s). It would be nice is she would, just, crawl back into the woodwork from whence she came.

She's an opportunist piece of trash who doesn't even believe what she says. She only says that crap to sell books to the idiots in America who believe in the type of venom she spews.

If you are one of those idiots who buys into what she says, you are contributing to the destruction of this country. Grow up.

In my schoolyard I would choke a bitch who called me a faggot....maybe Coulter grew up in a schoolyard that didn't teach her this lesson, or maybe she should attempt to rise above the schoolyard IQ.

From answers.com: Faggot is defined as 'Used as a disparaging term for a homosexual man.'

From Wikipedia.com the first definition of faggot is 'a pejorative term for a gay or effeminate man'.

That is what she said and meant. Now she is trying backpedal like she does not know the definition???? That is disingenuous at best. More like a big fat effing lie.

It is not like she lost her credibility on this one with me though, that was gone a long time ago. This heads toward appalling behavior.

It's a schoolyard taunt meaning 'wuss,' and unless you're telling me that John Edwards is gay, it was not applied to a gay person.'.....Huh, so if I were to say that she is a bitch, then it dosent count, because bitch means female dog, and because she is not a female dog it isnt being applied to her, that means I can say that and not care...that makes sense...

Shouldn’t monsters and critics apologize for using the word succubus as some women find it very offending and refers to women sucking the life out of men? There were many better word choices given a word that has such grossly offensive negative gender connotations. Shame on you.

Are you kidding? What are people so exercised about? Do you people (i.e. Americans) really want to be protected against being offended, or do you just want to hammer someone for expressing a non-PC thought? I also note that apparently the woman got applause. This is what your founders fought for, you ninnies! Personally I enjoy hearing others launch into offensive comments; that's usually a prelude to a fun debate. So enjoy the tussle, instead of being such thin-skinned crybabies whining for state intervention to protect your sensitive ears, and let the debates begin!

It's her right to fling insults but it also serves her right if those insults boomerangs back to hit her adam's apple.
