Kate Moss' fling with Russell Brand was the reason Pete Doherty entered rehab, it has been claimed.

Pete decided to get clean after hearing his former supermodel lover had spent the night with the outrageous British TV presenter, claims author Tanith Carey.

Tanith said: "The day the pictures of Russell and Kate appeared in the papers, Pete turned up to see her, vowing to get clean if that would win her back. Just when he looked like he might lose Kate to Russell, Pete checked into a rehab clinic."

Russell was snapped leaving Kate's London home last May and confessed he was dating the blonde mother-of-one.

One source has revealed Russell's behaviour humiliated Kate, prompting her to end the blossoming romance.

The source told Britain's More magazine: "Russell told a reporter, 'Kate's a great girl. Things are going great for me and but I hope I don't get caught coming out of her house again. That was embarrassing.'

"When Kate read it, she was humiliated. She accused him of making money out of her name. Russell made a total fool of her."

Kate has since been reunited with Pete and the pair had their relationship blessed in a Buddhist ceremony in Thailand last month. (C) BANG Media International
