I believe that the Actor should be the judge of his career and if he/she feels so inclined as to perform a Classic such as Equus, they should be given the chance. It isn't an easy role and I don't know many people who would 'bare all' in front of a few people, let alone the 'world'.
I say BRAVO to Daniel and cast and Thank You for being focused on the art and not the 'Corporate Greed'!

'Still, you can't blame a young actor for wanting to reveal another part of himself, so to speak. What's remarkable is that the studio, Warner Bros., didn't freak out about it. 'Well, I'm sure there were some people in Burbank who may have taken a breath, but I wasn't worried,' says 'Potter' producer David Heyman, who discovered Radcliffe seven years ago in the audience of a London theater. 'I think it shows a young man who is pushing boundaries,' he says. 'Besides, what's the worst that can happen? Someone takes a picture of his willy?' Well, yeah. 'So what,' he says. 'We've all got one—or have seen one.''
There is real concern about ticket sales with the core group who flocks to this movie-there is quiet, but very real anxiety over this at the WB
He will prove his mettle, not his metal. A dictionary will prove a better friend that spell check.

This guy is a joke. I always thought that he was gay. Any guy who makes Horny Potty movies waving a little wand while wearing a pointy hat (which is probably bigger than he is)gives me the impression that he is a little fairy. His acting ability is a joke, just as I do not think that he even knows how to act. I never spent a dime going to his stupid movies or buying his pathetic books as I predict that his career is going to paralell another wannabe actor we all might remember...the sucky little kid from the home alone movies... My thoughts to all the losers who think this idiot is an actor...Get a life!!!!! HE is going to be a has-been when he gets killed of in his little fairy books
I understand Daniel's desire and need to develope his craft and move away from the Harry Potter series. I respect him as an actor for that but I have two issues regardless:
1. The proper time to escape your 'Harry Potter' roots is not when you are still employed and paid millions through 'Harry Potter'. (While I think he is a tremendous actor, if he is replaced there ought to be no complaining, because in the end - he asked for it.)
2. An artistic leap, yes...but from any view point -at 17- this could easily be concidered child porn. I know that art is not pornography but I am sure there are a lot of creeps who would beg to differ.
I think what is shocking people so much is that they had basically seen this kid grow up before their eyes. They get attached to him and they want him to stay this sweet little kid forever its just not going to happen he is 17 years old and 17 year olds want to do other things and to find out who they are. Mr. Radcliffe knows what he is doing and understands this may be a bit hard for people to swallow but at the end of the day its his choice not ours. His parents I am guessing have no problem with it because I bet if they had they wouldn't have let him do it.
Shawn while I'm not exactly huge on Daniel being in this play that doesn't mean that I think he's a bad actor or stupid. If he's so bad then you should go teach him how to be a good actor. And if he seems like a better actor, then I'll listen to you.
Shawn, you're completely ignorant and it shows. Why the hell are you commenting on an actor and a series of movies/books, that you have never seen nor read? Perhaps you don't have the intelligence to decipher such detailed, intelligent and disturbing books? You refer to them as 'little fairy stories', which makes it clear that you have no idea what you are talking about. I saw Equus on the 16th of February and I found it to be both powerful and well suited to Daniel's abilities. The stage is clearly his forte. So Shawn, go and get a life, or a job, or an opinion on something you actually have some knowledge about. That's all.
It seems clear to me the Dan Radcliffe is set on becoming an actor, not a 'child star', not just 'Harry Potter' - and I say good luck to him.
'Equus' is a complex, confronting study of violent, psychosexual behaviour, and is no walk in the park for veteran actors, never mind relative newcomers. The character 'Alan Strang' is a seriously disturbed teen, and requires a brave and talented youthful actor to play him.
Also in the play is Richard Griffiths, a recent Tony Award winner, one of my favorite actors from a BBC series 'Pie In The Sky', and also famous as 'Uncle Vernon' in the HPmovies. That Dan is gaining live theatre experience with actors of such calibre, as well as movie acting experience with a who's who of British stars from the last thirty years, is a career experience unlike any other.
I admire this young man for grabbing this opportunity with both hands and making the most of it.
Personaly, I have great faith in Daniel. Although throwing himself up on stage nude is a little crazy. It just shows what a great actor he is. Taking this job was, yes, a good idea, but bad timing. This will really effect the Harry Potter seiries in which I love. By doing this the suspence will be taken away from those movies. The veiwers will just see it as 'Oh well, he already showed the world his genitals'. I just hope that Dan knows what he is doing..........
Ok, look ya'll, I think what Daniel is doing in that play is nasty! Hello, the boy is 17 and not even legal to do anything all crazy and stuff. I mean i hope this boy knows that this could ruin his whole Harry Potter career and of course his co-stars on the other hand! Yeah we all know that he has to move on from those kids movies but hey he doeesn't have to go naked for all of London to see!!! And Shawn the boy is not that bad of an actor!
Who cares, honestly? He will be turning 18 this week and old enough to do as he pleases. I think those photos were beautiful! He's beautiful! We have Playboy in America for men to oogle at. Give us Harry/Daniel and be done with it!
