The murder trial of Phil Spector could be televised publicly, according to the judge.
Born Harvey Phillip Spector, he became a songwriter and prolific record producer in his lifetime. His rise in the 1960's was due to the distinctive sound he created in popular music.
Hailed as "the Tycoon of Teen," Spector was responsible for creating the "Wall of Sound" production technique, that defined the sound of 1960s girl groups.
Spector later worked with Tina Turner, The Beatles and the Ramones.
In later years, Spector became known for odd outbursts, litigiousness, and a reclusive lifestyle.
In 2003, Spector returned to the public eye when he was indicted for murder. The legendary record producer will be tried for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson nearly four years ago. The case was scheduled to begin in September 2005, but has been rescheduled three times since then.
Now, the Los Angeles Times reports that Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler says that he thinks the public should be able to see the trial unfold, claiming: “This is a trial of public interest."
The lawyers involved in the case are thought to be considering the options, with no comments being made to the media at present time.
Spector is currently out on bail.

What ever happened to innocent before guilty?
Per people in music business thirty years ago, Spector was ill-mannered and ruthless; although, presumably, he was't waving guns at people, at least at that point. It is always a mistake not to repent the sins of youth.
The trial judge in the current case has already granted a D.A. motion to include Evidence Code 1101 evidence of prior incidents in which Spector was waving guns at people. Unrepentant youth becomes old reprobate.
Spector will need an attorney as good as Johnny Cochran, or better.
if I could only come back from the dead....
Phil Spector is a Classic case of Bipolar disorder gone awry! I read the book 'Reckless' by Carlton Smith Copyright 2004. He has a slight bend in the guilty direction based on his personal relationship with the victim Lana Clarkson. I do think that he did a great job of staying as close to center as possible, considering the aforementioned relationship.
Phil Spector is not what he appears to be. His life has been centered around stealing from artists and lying about who he really is! His 'Wall of Sound' was a farce, a gimmick that only worked for a very short time in the 60's. It lost validity very soon because people quit listening to tinny transistor radios many years ago. Without going into boring details, I can tell you from a producers point of view, that Phil Spector is a joke, and he has been for a long time! He made his fortune off the backs of great talent and attempted to take full credit for their achievements, and he swindled many aspiring people in the business during his pursuit of fame. He is a shell of his former self today, a character of all the myths revolving around him.
He is also CLASSIC bipolar! Passive/aggressive to the extreme, and completely without recourse once he gets lost in the madness that envelopes the manic mind of the bipolar! While reading this and other reference material on Phil, I knew what had happened and I understood... I too, am bipolar.
However, all of this aside, Phil Spector IS NOT the victim here! Lana Clarkson lost her life because Phil Spector did one thing that no bipolar should EVER do, he started drinking again after a long retreat from alcohol. Once he did this he started a cycle of madness that cannot be accounted for by any sane person. I know this too because I am also sober 11 years, a producer, and bipolar! If I were to start drinking again there is no telling what could happen and who may get hurt.
It is unfortunate, the lawyers are going to attempt to spin this into a reversal of roles, making Phil the victim here. While I do feel a kinship to this person on many levels, I cannot sit back and justify what happened in that house on the evening of February 3, 2003. Justice needs to be served regardless of who Phil Spector is, or pretends to be.
And by the way, for the record, Tina Turner IS NOT a protege' of Phil Spector! The one and only album he did with her bombed all over the place, and Tina was a star BEFORE she met Phil Spector! So next time, do some research, huh?
