JK Rowling is "heartbroken" after finishing the final Harry Potter book.
The author, who recently announced she had completed 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', says she has been in mourning since concluding the series.
Rowling wrote on her website, www.jkrowling.com: "I always knew Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye was just as hard as I knew it would be.
"Even though I'm in mourning, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe I have finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years.
"I have never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric."
Rowling, 41, says there is one thing that stopped her from "collapsing in a puddle of misery on the floor" - knowing the book is the best one yet.
She explained: "While each of the previous Potter books has strong claims on my affections, 'Deathly Hallows' is my favourite, and that is a wonderful way to finish the series.
"If it comes as any consolation, I think that there will be plenty to continue arguing about, even after 'Deathly Hallows' come out. So do not despair."
Rowling, who became the world's first billion-dollar author after the series sold an estimated 325 million copies worldwide and were adapted for the big screen, has revealed at least two characters will die in the final instalment.
'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will be released on July 21.

BOO HOO....I'm sure she cries herself to sleep on bags and bags of money...
Blows her nose with hundreds and wipes away the tears with 50's. It's just sappy publicity to generate more buzz for the release that'll sell more books in the 1st 24 hrs than the number of bibles in all the motel 6's across the US.
must have been tough for rowling with christians constantly attacking her because her books were... not to the linking of christians
heh... want proof? look it up? ^^
er... liking* not linking
People are just jealous that they can't write books that sell 325 MILLION copies. And thats from an entire series! To maintain a story line that keeps people hooked all the way to the end...that takes genuine talent. I say congratulations to Ms. Rowling for entertaining millions (billions?) of people, and just ignore anyone who thinks that the fictional accounts of Harry Potter and his friends are in any way evil or wrong.
Alright, Mr. Insensitive, you try writing a book that is your entire life, it's what you live for and it's your life and then you have to quit. That has to be really hard and you have no idea what you're talking about, so if i were you, thank god im not, but if i were, i'd keep my mouth shut and hands sat on. Geez, some people...
I think she will get over her mourning soon enough. I would say it is time to get on with spending all that cash. If she can't think of what she would like to do with it all, she can send some in my direction!
Having written fiction--Yeah, I can relate.
It sounds silly, I know, but if your characters aren't 'REAL' in your mind. . . and you don't love (and/or hate) them--you can't write them well. She mourns the ones who've died. She'll miss the characters who've moved away and will never hear from again. She probably even feels guilt for the ones she murdered.
It's a writer thing. You wouldn't understand.
Single mom working as a waitress to more money than the queen! Talk about American Dream - oh wait, she's in a country who's taxes make the USA look like Costa Rica!
Collapsing in misery eh? To Rowling I say 'want sympathy? It's in the dictionary between shit and syphillis, look it up'
What cynics! Cut her a break. I am sure that her words are heartfelt. It must be strange to have an incredible chapter in an incredible life come to a close. For those of you who have known poverty and then known riches (as I have too), you know that it is not all about the money.
It's interesting, the number of people denying Rowling the right to have any emotion over her work because it's financially successful. She was dead broke, pulled herself up by the bootstraps and kept going.
The negative posts against a phenominally successful writer are from jealous slackers who can't even spell 'weird' correctly.
eh she can buy hertself happyness with all the $$$$$$$ she makes. I mean i would be totally depressed if i finished a book that would make me millions of more dollers on to of the billions i allready had. (If i had that much, i wish.) Oh well thats life.
i think you stinck
wahhhhhh. too muchhh moneyyy. must cry over my last book since it's so overly wonderful. wahhh.
