Where is Society going?Jan 30th, 2007 - 22:29:33

Just because she's a celeb the law doesn't apply!? It also seems that when something negative happens to a minority person, the civil rights people get up in arms and cry foul. Since when are minoirtiess exceptions to the law. It seems that such civil right organizatins (not the minorities or the people themselves) feel that when ever someone in a minority is slighted the law SHOULDN'T apply, and resitiution should follow!!!

A few years ago, two young men in a Jetta accidentally ran through a red light in my neighborhood. They hit a woman and her stroller in the intersection. They baby was thrown into the light pole and was killed. The driver received 20 years.

Brandy isn't above the law, and deserves the same punishment. Anyone who thinks otherwise (Islamic HOPE), I can only 'hope' that your children suffer the same fate, then we'll see what song you sing.

In addition, I recall hearing on the local news, when this story broke about a week ago, that the family of the victim is considering pressing charges against the police department for withholding information. Apparently, it took a long, long time for the family to get any actual information about the crash. So if the 'black leaders' (whoever they are) would actually take a look at the entire picture, I would be more likely to guess that Brandy's celebrity is *shielding* her. Not making her a target.

Involuntary Manslaughter is not an abnormal charge in a case like this - she had to have done something neligent if she back-ended someone so hard that they spun into another traffic lane and were killed (because the police have ruled out vehicular malfunction). So let her face what any other person would have to face in these circumstances. Trial.

I am white and a member of the NAACP. If someone inadvertently kills another on the highway and is at fault for the accident - black, white or yellow - no one because of color, avocation or political status should be above the law. She needs to face her demons with her lawyer in a court of law. These 'groups' calling her possible prosecution a violation of civil rights and racism fail to realize they are doing nothing more than calling attention to themselves for the wrong reason. She was speeding - she caused the accident...see her in court.

Some of us look at a singer or actor as more than a human being, we have to realize that is all they are .. It is sad that some one had to die in this situation and if ms. norwood is at fault then she has to deal with actions of the situation..I'm hoping for the best for everyone and not just ms. norwood..

There is not enough information either way to make a determination. Ali may have a case if, in fact, most car accidents where negligence kills someone, charges are rarely filed, that could be a sign of discrimination against her, for her celebrity status, or her racial identity or for both(race/celebrity).
-
If Ali is right, then we must be very grateful to him for having the courage to stand up for what is right! 'Injustice Anywhere Is A Threat To Justice EVERYWHERE' (Quote by DR. Martin Luther King).
-
However, if it is common place to charge the negligent party, where someone has died. Then it is evident that Ali and maybe(but not necessarily)the Islamic Hope group has alterior motives, not necessarily in the interest of serving society.
-
And by the way, just because a black leader(or any 'leader') says one thing, does not mean all people think the same way. Generalizing is not thinking critically and very un-American.
At this point we do not have enough info, and need to think critically and objectively.

First off, Unlike a majority of accidents, Brandy did not take off. A key point in her favor. Second she immediately admitted guilt, Second point in her favor. Brandy has shown extreme remorse in the incident. Third pint in her favor. How many people out there would have left the scene, blamed someone else or would really would care that some one died. Compared to all the other celebrities out there Brandy has been the most down to earth and closest to a non-celeb. The charges are a formality, and anyone in her position would also be facing the same charges. Regardless of whether she is actually charged or not. She is already living with the guilt.

First of all, I really feel sorry for the family of the woman killed in this tragic accident. However, in the name of justice, Brandy did not intend to kill anyone, and she was not negligent (no alcohol or drugs). Rear-ending someone's car happens all the time, and the majority of such accidents result in small injuries. Getting killed by that type of accident is just bad luck (in this case hit by other cars and eventually broadsided by a car in such a way that it caused fatal injuries). The family should get the insurance money and should try to reach a fair agreement with Brandy, out of court!

IF she caused the accident then she should be guilty of the crime. Period. Doesn't matter what color, sex or what job she may have. Now, in the real world, will she get treated better than if I was convicted of the crime? Yes. It's not right, but it how the world is currently working. It's not great but hey, it's better than living in just about any other country in world.

No, the courts do NOT file charges in every accident resulting in a fatality. All prosecutor's offices review the incident with the police/fire dept. investigation reports and then decide whether there was possible negligence, intent, or just a tragic accident that truly was no one's fault. If there's any possibility that there MAY have been a crime committed the prosecutors office sends the case to a Grand Jury. They then review the circumstances and decide whether there may have been, and decide whether to file charges.

What they are doing is standard procedure in every court of the land and the sensationalist bulls**t biased media is stirring s**t, causing this to become a 'racial' issue, which is an absolute crock.

We all know the media is completely impartial of course, and never has an agenda of their own. They just report the news......

Right......
