Mel 'scares' Eddie from London Dreamgirls premiere

Eddie Murphy was nowhere to be found at Sunday's "Dreamgirls" premiere in London, and the N.Y. Daily News speculates it was because of Scary Spice Melanie Brown fan backlash. "London is her turf," says the Daily News insider. "And Eddie knows Mel has a loyal fan base. He's afraid the U.K.'s reaction to him won't be good because of what he did to her."What Eddie "did" was get Mel B pregnant, dumped her on TV, a Dutch talk show at that, then deny his paternity.But Murphy's people say it was press for "Norbit," out Feb. 9, that prevented him from going to London."Eddie very much wanted to come to the U.K. premiere," said the spokesman. "Eddie's not attending the U.K. premiere of 'Dreamgirls' had nothing to do with Ms. Brown or anything else. He was looking forward to going."Brown's rep counters: "The reason that the whole issue has been so public is because Eddie, for reasons best known to him, decided to discuss his relationship with Melanie in the media. Melanie had no idea that he was speaking to the media, so the whole thing was a terrible shock," reported the Daily News.
