Gwen Stefani says fame is like a "drug".
The 'Wind It Up' singer - who shot to fame as the lead singer of No Doubt - insists she could never quit singing because she is addicted to fame and success.
She said: "Once you've had a hit, there's no going back because it's so addictive. It's a drug."
The singer - who returned to the music scene late last year after having a short break to care for her son Kingston, who she gave birth to last May - insists to remain successful artists must keep up with the latest music trends.
Gwen, who is married to British rocker Gavin Rossdale, said: "It's not like being ambitious is a bad thing. I wanted my latest album 'The Sweet Escape' album to be very modern. I want it to be played in clubs. I want to go out and hear the songs from it pumping in the car next to me."
