Well Hanoi Jane finally said something that I agree with, she didn't learn anything from the VietNam war. Isn't it odd that the anti-war crowd is actually condeming freedom. Apparently we will be fighting the war on our soil if the anti-war, anti-America, anti-reality loonies get their way. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Its about time the public started showing up and voicing dissent. We've had our heads buried in sand way too long and need to show the world that there are intelligent citizens of this country who are apalled at the actions of our cowboy dictatorship. I don't care if its actors or not - the message is what matters.

Hello Tom Carol

If Jane Fonda is a piece of shit as you wrote, the the entire electorate of George W. Bush has shit where other have brain.
We has our Adolf Hitler and the majority of Germans has been behind him, until 1945 once we have seen what monster he and his 'group' has been.
In the United States of America, which we all love and only since Bush is hated worldwide, the pitty is, that only about 10% use their brain and this we can see in the development , inventions, internet, Spacial etc. The United States is an example where we all look on, but since about 1975 , the same Nation has degenerated, a white Klu-Klux British Monarchy has taken the power and manipulate peoples like you to.
I am at 56 not interested in this Bush - Iraq private war. I would be interested to know about what 'your' Bush make to get this Monster Bin Laden, not why he send 20,000 jobless street boys more to Iraq. Maybe Bush thinks here more about a cleaning of the United States from peoples who think Jane is a piece of shit..:-)
You see Tom, they entire world looks at the United States as war criminal, and this not because Vietnam starts over again, but because Bush and Co. is to stupid to get the mastermind of 9/11, and maybe this is the reason whu Ms. Fonda also is back on the street...

Behind our country.
With our country.
Support our troops.
etc etc.

Our country is not the president. Our country is not one cabinet's decision to attack a soveriegn nation, whether or not it was to distract a group of terrorists from attacking the U.S., something I've only heard explained after all the other explanations stopped working.

Our country is just as much the people who say 'No War' as those who say 'We must not waver once we are commited.' Our country is each and every soul who lives within and without it, and holds that citizenship in our country. Each and everyone. Our country is so many things, why would you try to limit it to only those who support a war in Iraq?

Thousands of people get together, because they believe that the country is doing the wrong thing, that the cost is too high, both in lives lost and otherwise irrepairably damaged, as well as the ability for our country to bring the peace of democracy to our world. Yes, it is a noble thing to help give everyone their voice.

But if you support this war, one meant to establish an a long lasting ally/democratic stronghold in a resource rich area of the world, if you profess to also wanting to spread democracy there, to help give those people the right to speak their views, then please realize that we still have that right here, in our country.

What purpose does it serve to say a person is an idiot, a fool, or insane? If you truly believe in what you support, say that. Explain why you do. Listen to the other views. Let yours change if something clicks into place in your mind. That's what an argument is supposed to bring, an agreed upon idea afterwards. How long do we need to continue saying, 'You are wrong, because I cannot be.'

An actress, a doctor, a writer, a janitor, a farmer, an office supply salesman, we all have the same right to speak our minds. So if you do decide to speak in insults, then yes, you have that right. All the power to you. Our soldiers are defending that as well.

But is that what you want? Do you want our soldiers, our family, our friends, to be protecting your insults? Or should what they be protecting have some value higher than your desire to spread your inflammatory dislike of someone's actions?

Wow there are some 'freedom loving' fascists on here all right! Yeeehaaaaw! There are those who would go so far as to say hang her? You are just as bad as Saddam if that's your idea of a solution. All good democracies give room for criticism of the administration! just silence your critics huh? Is that your idea of justice in this modern world? good ole' hangin'? WOW. you need to try and see that this administration has L.I.E.D. to the people and you are so quick with the blame game that you can't even recognize any of the points you might agree with from other viewpoints. But some of you can already lay blame to Jane Fonda of all people! hah! of all people you use Jane Fonda as your scapegoat of anger and fear of the world thats being created through this blooodshed in IRAQ. Some of you are letting panic and fear take hold of you and are forgetting or never have tried rational questioning of what you've been told. Everyone gets told bullshit in their lifetime and it takes very careful skepticism and the experiencing of different situations to achieve a fuller spectrum of consciousness and appreciation for life. Try it, it's great fun if you give living a chance.

H. Duthel,

Please crawl back to whatever Nazi or Socialist German hole you came from and consider learning to speak proper English before you post anything about America and America's President. Your understanding of world affairs and personal morals is something that can be excused at 16, but at 56 it makes you someone with a mental disorder.

Jane Fonda is misguided at best - we all want an end to WAR. We all want peace and goodwill towards fellow men. But when angry, delusional, psychotics blow up women and children they must be stopped. And the only way to do it, is to kill them. That is the harsh reality of the war in Iraq and the war on terror.

Which is all to say, Jane Fonda and her fellow protestors are worse then misguided. They are heartless, stupid, obtuse, rebelious fiends, whose self importance has completely out weighed their ability to see. They do not respect the bravery of American soldiers who fight in Iraq if they do not respect their mission and the belief that most of the servicemen share. They wish that the mission to bring democratic freedom and human rights in Iraq fails, just so they can tell themselves they were right again - war doesn't solve anything. Well, you stupid stupid people, if the war is won, it actually solves everything - WWII.

So now they are protesting reinforcements and a more decisive strategy. They want to bring the boys home and abandon the mission. Well, it will make for good anti-war movie drama, won't it? Nothing like making victims out of America's bravest and strongest to justify your own choices for not serving your country.

It might be a good idea for those attacking Jane Fonda to dig deeper in the ugly role The US has played in theVietnam War .Never have the US defended democracy in Vietnam at all. They were in fact cooperating with military dictators set in place by them .Diem and Thueu have never been anything else than puppets manipulated by Johnson and Nixon .Never those dictators had any solid support from the population they were supposed to represent .They and their croonies were making huge profits on the back of their population, one of the most corrupt regimes existing in the world during the sixties and seventies. How can anybody explain the fact that the US with its mighty army was booted out of Vietnam by an army of peasants and if there was not a massive support from the Vietnamese population for the Vietcong and the north-vietnamese army .
Are many people aware of the fact that the Vietnamese war, just like the Iraqi also started on false accusations that the north vietnamese attacked a ship from the US Navy ?
Nowadays we have the Internet and it is relatively easy to separate facts from fiction .Perhaps an opportunity for those americans still waving the star spangled banner to dig into history and find out the dirty role their army and leaders have played in various parts of the world in modern history .
At least JaneFonda has the brains and the courage to oppose those who manipulate you all .Truth is there is no such thing as My country right or wrong ,that is just propaganda appealing on your testosterone ,not your brains .

Using the United States armed forces as some kind of 'decoy' to attract terrorists and other criminals to shoot at them in Iraq is one hell of plan. While I think it was a great idea to use the 9/11 as a 'reason' or excuse to invade Afghanistan and Iraq, I just think it's almost a crime, that they have have done such a terrible job of carrying out the missions.

Where's Bin Laden? Why can't we 'fix' Afghanistan? Where's all the money really going?

Why is the Iraqi government still not up and running? How is it that Iraq was supposed to be such a great Military power, but now all of a sudden we can 'train' security forces - even after 3 years?

The real 'crimes' here are not what the US 'wanted to do' - the crime here, is the complete failure of everyone having anything to do with fiasco and their brazen arrogance, stupidity and failure in every case on anything to do with 'war.'

Even a good cause, must be abandoned, when it is run by an incompetent idiot!

Well then it should be obvious for all those interested in the affairs of world politics what kind of reasoning is behind neocon thinking .The world is divided into two (no more,no less ) adversaries ,the good ones (guess who ) and the bad ones ( yes,all the rest of the world ,you guessed well). Inabilty to come up with a logical analysis is replaced by statements like ...if it were not for the US army you would all be speaking german now ).Once right ,allways right ,I presume!
Unfortunately history does not work this way .Had the people of the US elected the smarter candidate the world would look different .No way would Al Gore have invaded Iraqon falsepremises like Bush did .All these lies linking Saddam to Al Quada made up by the neocons served nothing more than insuflate trillions of dollars into a useless war machine ,bereft of ennemies since the demise of the USSR .TheCarlysle group ,Halliburton,GeneralElectrics,Raytheon,Lockheed, etc all these war profiteers with Bush Sr and his Saudi friends on there boards are laughing alltheway to the bank .Meanwhile FoxNetwork is beating the wardrum andstuffing your head with vile propaganda.Howelseexplain it tookyearsfor the people of the US to understand' someof them like flag waver still doesn't ) that the Iraqis had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al quada, had no weapons of mass destruction .How explain why the US overthrows onedictator like Saddamand supportsa nother like Saudi Arabia .Incidentally Iraq during Saddam was not an Islamic State ,while Saudi Arabia always has been .The biggest sponsor of islamic fundamentalists has allways been the house of Saud and its wahabit bigot interpretation of Islam.
Oh yesI forgot to mention ,guess how the Teliban came about toexist .
Of course it was carefully groomed and supported by the USduring the Regan era when it wasconsidered the lesser evilin the big war against communism .
We all now the result now when for the sake of warfare choicesand acts are restricted to simplistic reasoning.
To all those interested in understanding what is really happening I wouldsuggest to read The Great War for Civilizarion by Robert Fisk ,at least it gets rid of propaganda and replaces it with the personal observations and comprehension of facts . Beware thought,it might take a mental effort ,waving flags is of course much easier .

Sane Intelligent AmericanJan 28th, 2007 - 16:29:06

To believe that this pre-emptive war is going to make America SAFER in the long run, is putting blind faith in the spin that is being fed to you by the media and self- serving political press releases. The ILLEGAL war (in the eyes of most of the world), which went against the U.N., the majority of other countries in the world, and the geneva convention (look it up if you don't know what that is)

The justifications that were given for starting the war in Iraq (WMD's, connection of Saddam's regime to Al-Quaida and 9-11) Were PROVEN to be UNTRUE!

The new reasons given (also lies) are that because the war suck insurgents (which the spin doctors can label as 'terrorists', as in the terrorists that would otherwise be launching frequent '9-11's' (give me a break) on our soil)...into the war zone in iraq.

First of all, most of those 'terrorists' are former
Bathists from Saddam's army that instead of being analyzed, processed, and helped to integrate into Iraqi society (and there are a LOT of them), they were stripped of their jobs, attempted to have their weapons taken (which of course would never work), and exiled from society (with their families)
The 'insurgents' are mostly from neighboring countries.

there wasn't this 'Al-Quaida club' with fixed terrorist emembers out their just weaving a bunch of '9-11's', that just dropped their knitting needles and headed to Iraq. Al-Quaida re-invents itself from new armies that are created OUT OF HATE FOR THE INVADERS (us)

If the reason we go over there is based on a lie, and then we go and kill and exile tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of civilians, while the whole world of billions is watching, HOW can you expect that to makeus SAFER in the long run?

Eventually we are going to have to end this operation, which sucks up a good chunk of every tax dollar any one of us spends, and results in the deaths of thousands of troops, and tens of thousands of innocent civilians, along with the 'terrorists'
When we do end it, the world is NOT going to be more fond of us.

No matter how this turns out, there is no 'WINNING' this unjustified war.
We are sowing the seeds of a new generation of terrorists. They aren't all going to get sucked into an iraq diversion. The sons and grandsons of every dead insurgent or bathist, or inspired fundamentalist that watches their death on T.V. Will hate us more and more. Will want to fight against the 'evil invaders.'

When we can not justify our actions in the eyes of the world, we are seen as the invaders, the bad guys.(diverting terror from here to there is NOT a justification for starting or continuing war)

When our president actually uses the word 'Crusade', and says the God inspired his plan of action, that just throws logs on the fires of hatred that create terrorists. We do not live in a bubble. Time does not end when we finnaly exhaust our resources, troop levels, and political momentum (they are not infinite) Time goes on, and there are a LOT of people in the world. They dislike America MORE than before the Iraq war, MORE than before '9-11'. We are not safer now. We are LESS safe.

After I watched the clips of the Trade Center towers falling, I demanded revenge upon the terrorists who were responsible and all of their allies. I still do. I took it very personally, and any citizen of this country who does not feel that way is not a true American. Regardless of our foreign policies, past and present; regardless of our leadership, conservative or liberal; regardless of our many mistakes ---- those responsible and those who sympathize with them must continue to largely pay with their lives for their assault on America.

Fonda, Penn, and Sarandon: 'Can't we all just be friends?' Hell, no, we can't. What fairy tale world do you live in? America always will have enemies; seek counseling to deal with it. I am a (voter registration) card-carrying member of mainstream native-born America, and I am fed up with the 'touchy feely' opinions of most of you attention-addicted celebrities.

It's time for the CIA to actively get back into the assassination business to deal with the world's despots before they can rally any significant support among America-haters. Success breeds contempt. America is most successful on the world stage. Make an attempt to figure it out --- if you are able.

'Cutting and running' from Iraq will never be an option. The next President will learn that immediately after the next inaugral ceremony. Election campaigns are fraught with disingenuous dreaming; the Oath of Office will administer a large dose of reality.

Was no one on this comment page AT the march in Washington? The last protest I attended, prior to yesterday in D.C., was the 15 Feb 03 rally in New York City. Then we were trying to stop the war before it happened. Now it HAS happened. It was 8 degrees in New York on 2/15/03. On January 27, 2007 it was nearly 60 degrees in Washington, a beautiful day. You'd think it'd be hard to be sad on a glorious day like that, but I was brought to tears many times. One of the Gold Star mothers carried a sign bearing the photo of her dead son beside a photo of his gravestone, and the statement that he was her only child who died...for what? A lie. (A lot of lies.) A man whose son was killed in Iraq stood beside the march route with his family and as marchers passed they paused to offer their condolences, to shake his hand, to say god bless (sorry, I'm an atheist, so god gets a baby 'g' from me). One marcher carried a sign which read, 'No Iraqis left me to die on my rooftop.' Later I saw this same woman resting on a bench on the Mall, her head on her arms. Iraq veterans against the war marched at the head of the mass of thousands, the place of honor, and we DO honor them, for their insight, their pain, their sacrifice. They are so painfully young, fresh-faced and earnest. Maybe it is my age, I am old enough to be these kids' mother, but they especially, in their camo non-uniforms, made me weep. Near Grant's statue a few dozen anti-protest protesters had set up camp. They'd hung poor Jane Fonda in effigy, a macabre touch I thought. There were busloads of protestors from halfway across the country. My daughters and I had boarded a bus in the early hours of the morning, wearing heavy coats against 10 degree cold, coats we then had tie round our waists in warm Washington. Why do we all do it? (A Scranton reporter asked me that question this morning on the phone.) I'm not an optimist; I don't think our 'Decider' in the White House gives a hoot what his countrymen think. But we have to try, don't we? Because we love our country, because we care about our young people, because we want to do what is right, what makes sense, what is best, for them, for the future, for our world. To do nothing at all would be so very un-American.

These guys think ending the reconstruction will end terrorism against the U.S. They are only kidding themselves and anyone else who doesnt belive this war will be longer than the Cold War. These left-wing, freez-dried hippies who loved Bobby Kennedy so much forget the first Arab terrorist attack against the U.S. was when Palistinian Sirhan Sirhan killed Kennedy because he was a supporter of Israel. These pro-Palistinian dupes are rooting for the side that killed there hero. Wake up America. The war against the U.S. did not start 9-11-01 (remeber they bombed the WTC in 1993) nor before Bush I or II. The arab terrorist started in the 60's and 70's when the Soviets armed them and their teasurary filled up in the 70's with our oil money for those cars we all want. The war goes on in Afghanistan. Is that the next protest to bring them home because Bush, the UN, and NATO were wrong ot immoral there. Or will these so-called patriotic people support that war as soon as we pull out of this war is Iraq? Of course not because in their eyes we are always wrong and the enemy always right.

The appeasers are at it again. Belgian boy and the 'only thinking American', with eloquent speech are really the ones throwing slogans around - branding all of us who see the plain truth, as simpletons.

Well, I suppose simpleton is not the worst thing to be when faced with a simple decision - life or death, bondage or freedom.

Bush did not lie - he acted on the information he was given. If Bush has a flaw, it is that he will actually DO something with his power in his brief 8 years in office. Ask yourself what he wishes to do - and if you believe it is all to fill his already overflowing pockets and the pockets of his buddies at the top, then you do not understand America, you have never been rich yourself, and are a mind stuck in the same paradigm that trapped the minds of communists.

The rich do not seek more riches - they seek to build and they seek to give. That is the predominant tendency. Bush seeks to build a middle east for generations of the people of that region and for our safety.

American leaders are a product of the American constitution and the culture of liberty that America has ben the world leader off. Like another smart reader said, when a president enters the office, all campaign and party politics fall to the side. What remains is his charecter and the responsibility of dealing with the real world.

Jane Fonda and the protestors have no concept of that - they have never been and will never be president of the United States.

Those who call president Bush the next Hitler are ANTI-SEMITES, and horribly delusional. THEY tarnish the memory of 11 million people that were systenatically murdered by Hitler.

Hitler's war was not illegal - it was immoral! Say what you want about the legality of Bush's war, it is not immoral. It aims for the benefit of all people on earth, Iraqi and American alike.

Hitlers war was for the benefit and dominance of Germany.

America has nothing to gain but friendship if they help Iraqies in Iraq. The cost to America will not be repaid EVER, just like it will never be repaid by France for WW2. Those sacrifices were made because it was the right thing to do.

How long will we have to listen to the ravingsof those people saying that the invasion of Iraq was the justified revenge for 9/11 while we all know Saddam had nothing to do with it .Howlong dowe have to listen to the ravings of those pretending that the condemnation of this illegal war is an act of anti-semitism.
Any attempt to justify thewar with these premisesisin dire needof some argumentation .Parabolic thinking involving the fate of the jewish people during the WW2 isnoargument .You can not justify a racist crime by invoking another one .
Is thereany reason why the palestinians had to pay the bill for the atrocities of the Nazis ?Is there any reason why the Irqishave to pay the bill for 9/11? I dont think so ,unless of course you use the same kind of argumentation you use to condemn other people. If you dont find the guilty party, just attyack somebody that roughly speaks thesame language or belongstothe same ethnicity or lives on the same continent .And call it a a heroic act involving true leadership on top .History rewritten by simpletons .

those placing the focus solely on one person out of hundreds of thousands and then basing all their comments about this on this one person's involvement have clearly missed the entire point of the protests. typical behaviour from the one-threaded amero-fascists.

Dan, the people who think Hanoi Jane should be hung know that she did not just 'voice her opinion' about the Vietnam War. What she did was treason, what she did was turn her back on POW's that were asking for her help. Maybe you should take a history lesson. You absolutely do not have to support the war, but any decent American should support our troops and the sacrifices they have made for us. If people hate this country so much, maybe they should leave. They have the freedom to do it, but at the end of the day, the United States is still the greatest country on this earth and all of the haters would rather be here than anywhere else. Why? Because they are free to talk crap and be angry. Why are they free? Because of the people they talk crap about... The ones that risk their lives to keep ours free. No matter how you feel about this war, one place you should never be is on the side of Jane Fonda. She is trash, plain and simple.

Dear Belgian guy, first the Palestinians are not being made to pay for the crimes of the Nazis during WW2. The fact that you think so is reflective of your lack of knowledge of what is actually going on in that region. If it is your argument that Israel's creation by the UN is a result of Jewish suffering during WWII, then you are right - but that's where Israel's existance as the root of the problem for Palestinians end.

The fact that many Palestinians and the countries in the region have decided that Israel cannot exhist and that all Jews must be pushed into the sea is what the Israelis are fighting against. It's not a redirection of their need to avenge Nazis.

Bush's war in Iraq was ultimately a response to Sadam saying no to his obligations of the treaty he entered into at the end of the 1st Gulf war.

Americans could have easily destroyed Iraq and all of it's people if they wished to simply kill 'others that all look alike' for 9/11 as you say. If anyone's view is 'simpleton' it's yours. Please don't attempt to confuse rationality and logical consistensy with FACT.

As for being an anti-semite, you may not realize, but you might be one. To say Israel has no right to defend itself from terror is the same as to say Israel must be wiped off the map.

It is every American's right to protest and speak what they believe is right, this is called freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. We as Americans have these rights and shouldn't be persecuted for exercising them. If you don't care for what someone has to say, then so be it. But leave it at that....it's called an opinion.
Having served two tours in Iraq and other parts of the middle east, I can say from experience that it is easy to sit in America at home and 'arm-chair quarterback' a situation that most people have not a clue as to what really goes on there. If you watch the American media's potrayal of what happens then you only get one side of the story as well. I can also tell you from experience that the Iraqi military forces are not even close to being able to cope with what would happen if we just 'brought all of our troops home...'. I think that maybe we should look at history and learn a lesson. How about Afghanistan in the mid 80's through the early 90's? The United States and Saudi Arabia indirectly fought a war against communism with the then Soviet Union, using Pakistan and various tribes in Afghanistan. After the Russians decided that they had enough, we cut funding completely. Take a long look at where we are now with Afghanistan. From the early 90's, when we left them, Afghanistan had basically tribal warfare to determine some sort of government until the Taliban took over in 1996. The Taliban ruled for 5 years, and then American forces came once more and took over. Afghanistan has spent the past 20 years in turmoil because we didn't finish a job that we started. In my opinion, Iraq will be the same thing.
The presidency is a thank-less job. Whether you agree with our current president or not, it is the toughest job someone can take on. At this point Mr. Bush has backed us into a corner. Do we leave, and a civil war will ensue...all the while leaving Americans as the ones to blame? Or do we stay and try to sort out this mess that we essentially created? I think it's interesting to listen to someone like Tony from Belgium. You bring some interesting points to the table, but don't speak to or about Americans like we are all the same. Depending on what part of Belgium you live in, which my guess is the Walloon region, you are probably a French supporter. You have your views and I respect that, you should do the same to others.

We are the ones fighting this war.
And the Troops say:
We support the stars...but we're against the movies.
We feel we were decieved when we went into the theater. We think the movies are Wrong! Pointless! We feel the Stars should not be there. That thier efforts accomplish Nothing! Thier sacrifices all in Vain. Useless! We feel that the Stars cannot win at the oscars. Or the Academy Awards. We feel the movies are tearing this nation apart. We demand that the Directors withold funding for the movies and force the stars to 'Pull Out Now'!
Sound stupid? We agree. It sounds stupid when You say the same thing to us.You can't have it both ways. No matter how much you wrangle, you are NOT supporting us. The troops you are supporting will try to kill us today. We are hoping you both fail. You say 'Bring the troops home'. We say, No thanks. We'll bring ourselves home. And when we do come home... Save your Spit. You know how all that cocaine and alcohol dehydrates you.
A quick word to sean penn. You said 'What is Hollywood doing here protesting the war. It's our Job'! Sean, You're fired.

Yes, Jane Fonda, We learned our lesson in Viet Nam. You, did not. Don't go to the enemy door and run down our Troops. Jane Fonda where would you be today if the Enemy was here in the United States shooting and bombing everything. You would be running and hugging their necks or just plain running away.

Here is What I want you to do Jane? Think very hard about where you would be in the situation above. I paid my dues in Viet Nam and PROUD to serve my country and I am PROUD that the TROOPS are in Iraq doing what has to be done. I want them home as much as anyone but I don't want the enemy to come in behind them. God Bless America and each one of you. If you are not for American way of life then get out of America.
