People..get a life! This is a country with freedom of speech. There will always be a comment that will offend someone. People need to quit wearing their feelings on their sleeves, and grow up!
At least his co-workers stepped up to point out how inappropriate his comments were. How many times do hateful comments go uncorrected? Hats off to anyone who puts their foot down and stands up for minorities, especially when they're in the majority. I'm very impressed with how this cast dealt with the bigotry. They turned something unfortunate into a positive learning experience for many.
Homosexuals can refer to themselves and queers or faggots (or worse) but if someone straight uses similar language...outrage! They can 'out' a homosexual unwillingly (the pastor from Colorado Springs) and not a peep of criticism. But if a straight outs a homosexual unwillingly...outrage!!! What a bunch of hypocrites.
Are these people for real???? why can't someone in a free country say whatever they like????? Why can't I deny the Holocaust, insult someon's religious beliefs, or talk about recovered homosexuals? Why is some speech censored by the liberal media????
Too many sensitivity police in this country bending over backwards indulging some group's perceived insult.

It's time you realize that spewing hate has consequences. The very least of which is betraying your ignorance.
I'm all for admitting a faux paux, but essentially here, I believe Mr. Washington's civil rights are being trampled in as far as his livelihood is being threatened if he doesn't submit to the 'lynch mob' mentality that seems to be permiating everything. People say 'stuff' all the time, a lot of it hurtful, that's life, end of story. Last time I checked I do believe freedom of speech was a right we all possess in our free society. Don't make me quote Voltaire. Okay I will [paraphrase] '...I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend until death your right to say it...'
I'm not suprised that posters here are willing to make excuses for Washington's bad behavior. Homosexuality is still largely despised in the USA. But it is discouraging to see so many...stars and fans...miss the point. Mel Gibson, Micheal Richards and Isaiah Washington have all gone to great lengths to convince the public they're not really homophobic, anti-semitic or racsist...and perhaps they are not. However, they have each been personally very rude to individuals who did not deserve their wrath. I think all three of them need to make very public apologies to the individuals they have slurred...not just to 'communities'. In falling all over themselves these stars seem more concerned about saving their careers than making amends to the targets of their anger.

Blacks can refer to themselves and 'niggahs' (or worse) but if someone white uses similar language...outrage! They can deride white men who can't jump, or dance and not a peep of criticism. Are you for real???? Why can't you get over your superiority complex and stop deriding gay people? In a 'free country', human beings have a right to have sex with an adult of their choice, same or opposite sex. If you don't like it, why not go live in Iran or North Korea. You'll find it much more hospitable to your point of view.
He has the right to free speech. However, the company and cast have the right to take his remarks and hold him accountable. If he is required to undergo training to keep his job then that is the right of his employer to say so. The government in no way has censored his free speech. Which is what freedom of speech is about.
What ever has happened to free speach ? I'm not a gay basher nor do I dislike people of color any color, but please give me a break. This country has so many problems that what goes on in Hollywood is just unimportant . We should be thinking about global warming instead of all this other garbage.
Isaiah Washington is 'nothing but a punk with no testicular fortitude whatsoever' according to you. And by your reasoning, he should undergo a sex change and become a woman, because women, in your view, have no fortitude or conviction, and would cave in to pressure and hypocrisy as he has.
I wonder how your wife or girlfriend must feel about your attitude. My guess is that you are single... or involved with someone female with very little regard for themselves.
