'Isaiah, has confirmed reports and entered the facility for sensitivity reprogramming:'

Have you ever heard of such nonsense? Lets be for real. Whats next, gastrointestinal reprograming for those who pass wind at the office.

At least his co-workers stepped up to point out how inappropriate his comments were. How many times do hateful comments go uncorrected? Hats off to anyone who puts their foot down and stands up for minorities, especially when they're in the majority. I'm very impressed with how this cast dealt with the bigotry. They turned something unfortunate into a positive learning experience for many.

Homosexuals can refer to themselves and queers or faggots (or worse) but if someone straight uses similar language...outrage! They can 'out' a homosexual unwillingly (the pastor from Colorado Springs) and not a peep of criticism. But if a straight outs a homosexual unwillingly...outrage!!! What a bunch of hypocrites.

Are these people for real???? why can't someone in a free country say whatever they like????? Why can't I deny the Holocaust, insult someon's religious beliefs, or talk about recovered homosexuals? Why is some speech censored by the liberal media????

Too many sensitivity police in this country bending over backwards indulging some group's perceived insult.

Enough. The clowns engaging in sex with people of their own sex should get treatment, not someone who is disgusted by it.

I'm all for admitting a faux paux, but essentially here, I believe Mr. Washington's civil rights are being trampled in as far as his livelihood is being threatened if he doesn't submit to the 'lynch mob' mentality that seems to be permiating everything. People say 'stuff' all the time, a lot of it hurtful, that's life, end of story. Last time I checked I do believe freedom of speech was a right we all possess in our free society. Don't make me quote Voltaire. Okay I will [paraphrase] '...I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend until death your right to say it...'

I'm not suprised that posters here are willing to make excuses for Washington's bad behavior. Homosexuality is still largely despised in the USA. But it is discouraging to see so many...stars and fans...miss the point. Mel Gibson, Micheal Richards and Isaiah Washington have all gone to great lengths to convince the public they're not really homophobic, anti-semitic or racsist...and perhaps they are not. However, they have each been personally very rude to individuals who did not deserve their wrath. I think all three of them need to make very public apologies to the individuals they have slurred...not just to 'communities'. In falling all over themselves these stars seem more concerned about saving their careers than making amends to the targets of their anger.

Isiah Washington should just get it over with. He should divorce his wife, start hormone treatment and get a sex change because he's nothing but a punk with no testicular fortitude whatsoever.
A man, especially a man with the backing of the first amendment under the constitution of this great country, should say what he wants (as long as it's not 'fire' in a crowded theatre) and what he believes in to whomever he feels neccessary.

In a 'free country', human beings have a right to have sex with an adult of their choice, same or opposite sex. If you don't like it, why not go live in Iran or North Korea. You'll find it much more hospitable to your point of view.

He has the right to free speech. However, the company and cast have the right to take his remarks and hold him accountable. If he is required to undergo training to keep his job then that is the right of his employer to say so. The government in no way has censored his free speech. Which is what freedom of speech is about.

Isaiah Washington is 'nothing but a punk with no testicular fortitude whatsoever' according to you. And by your reasoning, he should undergo a sex change and become a woman, because women, in your view, have no fortitude or conviction, and would cave in to pressure and hypocrisy as he has.

I wonder what would have happened if a cast member called Isaiah a 'nigguh' in the heat of the moment. Would there have been this much fuss in the media? I doubt it. After all, this is a free country and people should be able to say what they want about each other, even stars of a hit ensemble show. The 'nigguh' comment would have just been treated like any other casual comment about another cast member and would have not attracted any outrage whatsoever. People should be able to say what they like. C'mon people, get over it!

Let's just have a mass suicide and rid the world of common sense, then the fags can bend over the muslims while they bask in their sensistivity, and feminists can play army, and humanity can go back to the stone age when we were all as smart as dogs.

We are still in the majority in the U.S., still have the highest earnings of any group and still hold the reins of power in government and industry. We're not going anywhere. The only difference now, in contrast to our parents' generation, is that there are more 'others' who have joined us. We need to stop freaking out that others are getting on board, and stop insulting them. We need to start seeing people as individuals, not as 'blacks' 'gays' 'women' etc. How 'bout 'co-worker' and 'colleague'?

It's amazing how folk demand more from Hollywood than they will demand from the person who is leading this Country...George Dubwa. No one is asking him to apologize for all of the companies packing up to go to Mexico, or for the guys who were protecting the borders(headed to prison), cuts in education, social services. I have been called a whole lot of things over the years...to my face and behind my back. My Momma told me, 'sticks and stones'. Yes, Washington is out of control but none of this should have made the press, that also includes what's his name from Seinfeld. That situation was between him and the guys at the comedy club.

Anyone watch Lou Dobb's War on the Middle Class??? or Broken America??? That's worthy discussion.

To all the people who seem to think of this as a free speech case, you need a basic civics lesson. When we refer to the right of free speech, it is a reference to the government's inability to censor speech, not the idea that one cannot be criticized for offensive speech. Free speech would be a concern if he was arrested because of his comments. Furthermore, his employer has a clear right to say that such speech is unacceptable and creates a hostile work environment for other employees. If you want to worry about the state of civil rights in America, I can suggest many issues more pressing than the fact that an actor has been told not to spew hate speech on the set.

Let's see, he called him Gay-hab? I don't get it. Why are you all pissed off? No, seriously. How can anyone even be mad about that? It's the most witty gay-joke I've heard in a while. Much better than 'lolgays.'

No offense, but this 'us and them' mentality is what divides people, not stupid jokes like this. If there wasn't such a reactive response to slights like this, then people might just *gasp* forget there was a difference! Teasing isn't always meanspirited, and wouldn't be if there wasn't such a strong response.

Now it's like a fat kid at lunch who throws his twinkies at the back of your head when you call him chubby. It's the truth, everyone knows it's the truth, but for some reason he doesn't like to hear it. Get some self-confidence and security, and stop overreacting.

Reminds me of what happened to dissenters in the late-great U.S.S.R. Anyone who found fault with that socialist utopia and its attempts to create the Soviet Man must by definition be mentally ill, so off the refuseniks went to the mental hospital for 'treatment'. Who said Orwell's '1984' was mere fiction? One cannot have a politcally-incorrect opinion anymore -- they must need 'treatment' too.

A note to all of those who are asking about free speech, which is guarenteed by the Constitution. The Constitution applies to the relationship between the government and it's citizens, not the relationship between employer and employee. So unless the government is trying to curtial IW's free speech, the Constitution doesn't apply. ABC, a private employer, can do anything it wants about the speech of its employees.

My feelings are this; what if someone on the set had called him the 'N' word, would he not have been offended. This is something that he needs to work out, but enough already about all of this. Civil Rights at ANY level are rights that cannot be denied by anyone or any institution or employer. Sheeesh, pseudo-lawyers are so much FUN aren't they! Just because you reference the 'Constitution' and narrowly apply the wording therein and ignore the spirit of same does not in fact make your less than stellar interpretation correct. Civil Rights are a core part of our freedoms and apply throughout the spectrum of our existence within our free society.
