"Scrubs" is a half hour series that bills itself as half as long as E.R., and twice as funny. The show follows the professional and personal lives of several characters working in a fictional American teaching hospital in an unspecified city. It plays on whip smart repartee and abruptly edited segues between sub-plots with a dash of internal dialogue and reveries counterbalanced by poignant scenes, where the young doctors deal with death and issues in their own lives.
Braff plays Dr. John "J.D." Dorian. At the end of each "Scrubs" episode, a wiser J.D. wraps up the lesson learned in voice-over.
Braff recently split from pop star Mandy Moore, and he told Sunday supplement Parade he thinks he suffers from "mild depression."
The New Jersey native admits his fans have helped him come to terms with his mood swings. "To to have millions of people go, 'I watched your movie and related' was the ultimate affirmation that I'm not a freak."
The three time Golden Globe Award nominee thinks he is an unlikely star: "I don't care about image and all that nonsense. I'm in sweat pants every day. I don't play the game at all."
