Lost earring of screen legend Marlene Dietrich found in Britain

London - An earring thought to have belonged to German screen legend Marlene Dietrich has been recovered under a rollercoaster in the northern English sea resort of Blackpool, it was reported Wednesday. Dietrich, who died in 1992, is believed to have lost the pearl and gold earring in 1934 when she went for a ride on the Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Almost three-quarters of a century later, staff at the amusement park believe the gem has been unearthed. The earring was discovered after workmen dredged a lake which has been drained as part of construction work for a new ride. A spokeswoman for the Pleasure Beach said: 'We have compared it to pictures taken at the time of her visit and it certainly looks like one of hers. It appears to have withstood the test of time quite well.' Dietrich was known to have been concerned about the loss of the jewellery, and asked organizers in a letter to scour the fairground - at that time to no avail. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
