The former Destiny's Child singer - who has had roles in comedy films such as 'Austin Powers: Goldmember' and 'The Pink Panther' - believes her latest performance is brilliant.
Beyoncé revealed in an interview with Britain's Empire magazine: "I think people are going to be very surprised. I can't wait for them to see it because I've shocked myself. I always knew I had the gift to act, but I've never had a movie to show everything that I can do."
The 25-year-old said it was particularly hard to play her character Deena - who is based on a young Diana Ross - as she had to suppress her own powerful voice for the role.
She said: "I had to tone down the dancing and tone down my voice. I couldn't belt things out and sing them with as much soul, because Deena is not that way. It's been difficult to make her stand out and still be subtle."
