Phuket New Year's surprise: Kate Moss weds Pete Doherty

It's official, the nuptials everyone has been speculating whether or not would occur did over New Year's, model Kate Moss has married her fiancé Pete Doherty in a private New Year's Day ceremony on the island of Phuket in Thailand.

The Daily Mail speculates Kate's vast fortune could be a ball in play, as Doherty is cash poor.  No word on whether the wedding was a Thai Buddist-style blessing or a legal wedding.

The Mail reports that "Buddhist-style blessings conducted by monks are usually taken in conjunction with formal weddings in a couple's home country."

Friends and family flew in to witness the event.

The Mail speculates that Moss' mother and sister in attendance along with her personal assistant indicate the ceremony is a legaly binding one.

Other resort guests including the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and her two daughters.  

Moss and Doherty are in a country with an unforgiving legal system when it comes to drugs.

The Amanpuri hotel was the stage for the exchange of vows.

The Daily Mail reports the details of the garb worn by Moss who was in a Galliano shift dress and her Babyshambler was in his "trademark Pork Pie hat."

A local source reported to the Dasily Mail that the wedding red tape and paperwork could conceivably be completed in three to five days in Thailand.

Just a few weeks ago Doherty was at the same party when actor Mark Blanco plunged to his death at a drug binging party at an East London top-floor flat. Reported The Mail.

Doherty has a three-year-old son from a previous marriage.
