I do not understand why James Brown's common law wife is kept out of the home they shared with their son. It sounds that Mr. Brown's family are so jealous and afraid that his youngest son will get more than thay do, which I feel would be the right thing to be done. His other children are older and unless they are really hurting that bad for money should see that the youngest of Mr. Brown's children and his mother that is their half brother whether they like it or not.
My family always believes that if a sibling is born in the family even if it is born out of wed lock that child is family even if some some of the family do not believe in having a child out of wedlock. Do not let that keep the other family members from treating him or even his mother as if they do not belong. Quit being so jealous and act like a family even though his children are from other marraiges. Just try and get along. The attorney really needs to try and draw everyone together instead of having them fighting among each other.

In Australia the term de facto marriage is often used to refer to relationships between men and women who are not married but are effectively living as husband and wife for a period of time, however common-law marriage is sometimes heard. The Federal parliament has power to legislate for marriages, which it first did in 1959 with the Matrimonial Causes Act (covering divorces, etc.) and in 1961 with the Marriage Act, both of which are now replaced by the 1975 Family Law Act. The Federal parliament has no power over de-facto marriages, and thus all Australian states and territories have legislation covering aspects of de-facto marriages, such as property distribution, custody of children, etc. if a relationship ends. Most laws dealing with taxation, social welfare, pensions, etc. treat de-facto marriages in the same manner as solemnized marriages.

So if she either got kicked out of the house or she left on her own, she might be considered common law divorced.

I hate to say 'I Told You So' but...
When you marry one man, while still married to another I'm afraid you SOL.
Yes her child has a stake in the family fortune, but perhaps not Tammi.
Always the backup singer, never the headliner.

She wasn't his 'common-law' wife. She was married to someone else! Anyway, the validity of common-law marriages vary from state to state. I'd bet that James Brown's lawyers know what they are doing in not recognizing the so-called marriage. I wonder if criminal charges could be brought against her? They busted that polygamist in Utah for having multiple wives, why not this gold-digger for trying to have 2 husbands?

I feel no pity for her. She decided to lay with a black narcotic addict, so her misery is well-deserved.

Some states do not recognize 'common law' marriages. Many women who have lived with a man for great numbers of years have found if their state did not recognize a common law marriage, or had requirements to determine that status, have been left out of the legal process... they all need to check their status before going into this relationship.

I can not believe the hatred and the lack of understanding that so many of you have posted.. How does that saying go, walk a mile in my shoes.. None of you know Tammi or Mr Brown for that matter yet you judge so harshly. I don't understand why when you can choose love or hate. the majority will chose hate, and like a cancer it spreads... What matters is that yesterday, on Christmas, the world lost the godfather of soul and a little boy lost his father..
Shame on all of you that would prefer to focus and create Jerry Springer like drama then to mourn our true loss.

I don't feel sorry for you because you thought that you could get over with the Godfather of Soul and nothing worked in your favor. You messed up my sister and now you are paying for your unfortunate mistakes. I bet that Texas man you were married to was a white man right? You can't be married at the same time to more than one person. Are you crazy? Well, thank God your son will be able to receive some fortune out of this drama that you created for him. That poor boy will have to go through so much pain and distress for the rest of his life. Once you go black you don't turn back. I bet you are sorry that you messed up with a very rich and famous black man. RIP Mr. Godfather of Soul - James Brown. From one of your true fans who will miss you and remember you forever.

petty or pityDec 26th, 2006 - 19:15:02

this has nothing to do with his girlfriend, tammie.
this has to do with the fact that he fathered a kid, and has responsibility to that child, regardless of how anyone feels about the parents.
likewise, tammie has a responsibility to care for the child without relying on the funds of a superstar. i say, give this kid his fair share, but it needs to in a trust that he cannot touch until he is 18.
get a job tammie. or another husband to take care of you.
the sad thing is that their son will be used as an ATM by his mother.

I had no idea that so many ignorant white hillbillies knew how to type.
Or had access to the internet.
Do they have internet cafes in our state prisons?
I am sure race has little to do with this scenario. If she had been knocked up by Jerry Falwell or David Duke, would all you redneck, racist hicks be singing the same twangy song?
Crawl back under your trailer with all your redneck friends. And stay there.

The article states that Mr. Brown has a trust. A trust states who retains control over Mr. Borwn's assets at the time of his death. It is supposed to state how his estate is to be handled with respect to any heirs. Any children he fathered, whether biologically or adopted, should be treated fairly. All the 'baby mamas' should stay out of it. Death and probate brings out the ugliness in folks.

I bet you're going to miss the beatings you got from your black hubby, Ms. Rae. I'm sorry he wasn't able to receive the comb you bought for him this Christmas. But then again, would he have used it? lol.

I just pray that NO white man ever chooses to take you in, whatever direction your life goes at this point in time.

You all that comment on the fact that she is/was with a black man should have nothing to do with the monioes. People are people no matter the color of skin. We all go through life situation regardless of color. Don't be fooled, some of your parents slept with and still are sleeping with blacks. It's all over, suck it up and get out the house....

Well for starters she was never married legally to Mr Brown. She should be locked out before she puts her hand in the cookie Jar.

The article said it had been several weeks since the couple had seen each other...early this morning, reports were that the 36 year old 'wife' was away 'on retreat'. Another report added that it was a 'beach retreat'. I want the rest of the story. One of Brown's assistants said he wasn't feeling well but that excitement over preparations for the New Year's celebration kept him from seeking medical help. Then, during a dentist visit in Atlanta, the serious nature of his condition forced the hospitalization...and the 'wife' is on a retreat? Give me a break - that's enough reason to lock her out of the property! When she failed to show up upon learning that her 'husband' was in the hospital, she gave up her claim as a grieving widow. May God bless the hardest working man in show business - and his family.
