If you are a public person or celebrity today, don't get caught wearing fur, PETA and the Humane Society will call you out. The latest star to be lambasted is new daddy Diddy, aka Sean Combs.
The Humane Society of the United States has posted the damning evidence on their website, revealing that Diddy's clothing company is selling some sort of dog fur, retailers were labeling it "faux."
The HSUS tested the fur on a Sean John Hooded Snorkel Jacket sold at Macy's department store that was originally advertisedas "imitation rabbit fur collar" and materials identified as "faux fur."
The jacket has been found to have fur from a canine species known as raccoon dog.
Garment manufacturers are in gross violation of federal law, as the HSUS has discovered that on fur-trimmed jackets from other retailers and designers revealed the same animal materials--raccoon dog fur from China mislabeled as being from a different species, either "raccoon" or "coyote."
PETA and the Humane Society report that China has no animal welfare laws. Animals killed for their fur in China, dogs, raccoon dogs and other canine hybrids often face horrific abuse, and are many times skinned alive.
Allegedly Macy's has pulled the offending Sean John garments from its department stores and online shop, but The HSUS is calling on Diddy and other designers and retailers to stop using and selling fur trim altogether.

Another Greedy Selfish Piece of Feces. Just like Jennifer Lopez who started this murdering tortuous trend just to make a few extra bucks to add to her multi-million dollar bank account. He is in the company of the likes of her, Kimora Simmons and Beyonce(who was approached by Peta and shown the videos of the poor animals she was responsible for having skinned alive for her cheesy clothing line but turned her nose and doesn't care)who profit from the backs of innocent animals skinned alive. These people and the other celebrities who wear and promote fur should be scorned by society. These Greedy excuses for humanity don't care who or what suffers as long as they look good and are making a buck. They obviously have no sense of compassion or empathy. They are human shells without souls. These people are truly the sludge of the Earth yet the media moguls keep pushing them on to the public. Fur is not fabric. It is the skin off an animals back who has already endured endless torture and then is usually skinned alive in the most barbaric and painful way. Instead of praise and adulation at red carpet events, they should be met with disdain, tomatos and spit.
These people THINK they're gangters. A front that real mobsters role over in their graves about.
Look, hate will get you no where. It has nothing to do with being a 'gangsta'. These people need to be informed and reprimanded for their actions. They are not the only stars that wear fur. I think it's sickening as well but I think you're taking it to another level here that is out of context.
The weird thing is that the 'fashion' status appeal of wearing fur is fat middle-class housewives and secretaries from 1950s and 1960s.
This is who Diddy and Beyonce base their style on? Old white grandmas?
By the way, hsus has a CoatsForCubs.org program where people can donate those unwanted furs for use in wildlife rehab. And get a tax credit.
Thought that was a great idea
I think its time that PETA gave it up. Animals are supposed to be used as a resource. Eat em, wear em, use em as you want. These poor people are spending all their time doing something that helps no one. Spend that time instead helping HUMANS.
Really though. As someone pointed earlier, animals are meant to be food or used in another form. These are animals for gods sake. Lets take care of our own, before worrying about animals.
If the HSUS is claiming the coat is made of dog hair, then they're lying.
Raccoon dogs (otherwise known as tanukis) aren't dogs. They're about as related to dogs as we are to spider monkeys.
Claiming that the fur is 'some sort of dog' implies that domestic dogs are being used instead of distantly-related canid-esque species, and this is deceitful.
come on there only animals!everyone of you! will eat some kind of meat! or protein! save the cows? chickens, pigs, goats, deer, elk, turkeys, give us a break. go eat your veggies and get e coli! and have a reason to be sick and die!
'Animals are supposed to be used as a resource.' Are animals supposed to be cruelly treated and abused in the process? 'These poor people are spending all their time doing something that helps no one. Spend that time instead helping HUMANS.' When people donate their fur coats they go to poor people who actually need them. I also hope you realize that poor, mistreated workers process the 'resources' you use. 'If the HSUS is claiming the coat is made of dog hair, then they're lying.' Try Googling 'China Fur Trade.' Watch the videos and tell me those aren't dogs. Not to mention, it doesn't matter what species it is, it matters how they're treated because they can all feel pain. As for Jim's gibberish, there are a hell of a lot more cases of E. coli infections coming from meat sources.
Fur should be used as a resource and animals should not be treated inhumanely in order to get fur. My husband and I trap in the winter months up in Alaska, every part of the animal that can be used gets used. The fur gets sold or is used for winter clothing, the meat gets fed to the sled dogs, etc. Animals were put on earth to help supply these basic things. However, I do not EVER agree with skinning anything alive or mistreating an animal just for fur. People need to respect and honor animals. If you kill one, you should use every part of it as best you can. PETA does exaggerate many things in order to make people anti-fur. Nobody will ever completely agree on the fur issue!
Well I agree and disagree on this subject,Killing and using any domestic animals for fur is wrong, but if my ancestors hadn't used animals for food and fur most of us wouldn't be here,I wouldn't eat a chicken bought in the store ,but would eat one I raised humainly,I haven't eaten store meat for over 15 years because of the filth they are raised in.My people are Native Americans and have been in tune with nature and the seasons, gathering what nature provides for us,We are so out of touch with what life is all about that we have no idea what we are about,I could never kill for sport and I do not like to kill animals but if I plan on living on this planet I need to kill somethings,so next time you pull a carrot out of the ground listen and see if it is screaming from pain,or when you catch a fish and it is gasping for breath ask yourself is this natures way and the answer is yes ,nature is one of the cruelist things there is,just watch one animal hunt down and kill another ,it gives me chills,so use reason in what you do and do it humainly so that the creatures do not suffer
Following is the PETA site with a video regarding this subject: http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=fur_farm. If you wear fur, you should know how it is harvested. Please watch it, but be warned that the video is heartbreaking beyond words. I also copied and pasted this information from the PETA website at http://www.peta.org/Automation/AlertItem.asp?id=1826:
'PETA uncovered horrendous cruelty during an investigation of fur farms in China, which revealed that fur farmers swing raccoon dogs and foxes by their hind legs and smash their heads on the ground, injuring the animals but often leaving them conscious as they are skinned alive. When the fur is finally peeled off over animals' heads, their naked, bloody bodies are thrown onto a pile of those who have gone before them. Some are still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly. Some of the animals' hearts are still beating five to 10 minutes after they are skinned. One investigator recorded that a skinned raccoon dog on a heap of carcasses had enough strength to lift his bloodied head and stare into the camera.'
At one time it was okay to use black people as a 'resource'. We've moved beyond that self-centered bull. Now it's time to quit using the excuse that animals are for our use. We are much smarter than that(most of us). We don't have to kill animals. If you do use animals it's because you're not strong enough to break free from your roots of inhumanity.
Back on the original subject though- a law was broken, there will be punishment for their false advertising.
I find it very difficult to believe these animals are skinned alive, sounds like a farce that the humane society is using to try to stake their case against using fur. Realistically, the pelt would be damaged if someone would attempt to skin an animal alive with a knife, and the pelt is what they are trying to use I believe animal skins should be used, even from domestic pets that are that are euthanized. It is a replaceable resource, so use it! It seems the Humane Society of the United States has more money than brains! This money would be better spend on humans, as many humans have been treated worse than animals.
perhaps the warmth derived from having a few extra million bucks in the bank, justifies diddly widly and his ignorance and selfishness. fur bearing is for exclusive use of those who can grow it on themselves. so go get your wax job and pretend to be better, get your entourage of sad, pasty skinned promoters and ho's to defile the creatures of the planet. some folk are actually making the world a betterplace, diddly widly is defiling nature and exploiting anyone who tags along with him. i never liked him, as a child or as the jerk that he has become.
The point is that they are used and treated cruelly and inhumanly in the Asian industry.
Do you have an old fur coat in your closet? Is your grandmother's mink stole stored in the attic? Many of us have fur apparel that we no longer want or that was left to us by a family member. Some aren't comfortable selling it or giving it to charity, because they feel people should not wear animal fur. So what should people do with it?
Give it back to the animals. If you would like to see that old fur put to a good use, donate it to The Humane Society of the United States' Coats for Cubs program. The fur will aid and comfort wildlife.
Where Do the Furs Go?
All of the furs received by The HSUS are sent to wildlife rehabilitators, who use the furs to warm and comfort orphaned and injured wildlife. More than 200 rehabilitators from across the United States and Canada now participate in the program.
How Do the Furs Help Wildlife?
The furs are cut into an appropriate size for the animal, whether it be a bobcat, fox, raccoon, squirrel, or rabbit, and placed inside the animal's enclosure. The furry blanket becomes a surrogate mother to orphaned animals, reducing stress and giving comfort. One rehabilitator related a story about a restless orphaned river otter who chirped constantly. Once she was given a fur blanket, she settled right down. Turning the sleeve of a fur coat inside out, a rehabilitator can also create a warm nest for a burrowing animal such as an opossum. Some animals adopt a piece of fur as a playmate, jumping on it and wrestling with it.
How Do I Donate?
Donating is easy: Place your fur in a sturdy box (a large padded envelope is fine for small items) and mail it to The HSUS at the following address:
The Humane Society of the United States

Skined alive? Give me a break!
You don't skin critters with teeth and claws while they're still alive.
Who writes this garbage?
'Try Googling 'China Fur Trade.' Watch the videos and tell me those aren't dogs.'
The test results stated that Diddy's coat is made of *tanuki*, not dog -- and certainly not domestic dog. Your China videos (which I have already seen, thanks) are nullified by this fact. The HSUS then turns around and say it is 'some kind of dog'. This is deceit, plain and simple, meant to trick people into thinking that Diddy's coat is made of Fido, and it seems to be working.
I wonder which 'federal laws' the garment companies are in violation of. The HSUS doesn't seem to elaborate.
'If you wear fur, you should know how it is harvested. Please watch it, but be warned that the video is heartbreaking beyond words.'
I remember this video, too. There are so many illogistics in it that I highly doubt it's anything but staged. For one thing, there are piles of dead animals all around, including carcasses which are completely clean of blood (which means they were dead when skinned). For another, the person who skinned the fox alive looks like someone who walked off the street, rather than the workers around him who wear aprons, and his skills are very clumsy compared to the others. Also, it doesn't make sense to kill an animal alive, period. It fights, it bites, it's easy to get injured or to ruin the hide. It's very, very easy to kill an animal before skinning it.
In an industry where the highest quality of pelt brings in the best, best money (and there's a big gap between good pelts and okay pelts), losing loads of money by turning in inferior hides from abused animals doesn't make sense, especially on a wide scale.
'We don't have to kill animals.'
Yes we do. Even vegans kill millions of animals each year with pesticides and tractors. Farmers also trap and hunt pest animals like deer and groundhogs, or hire others to do it. It's impossible to live without killing animals. And at least my animals are used completely rather than left to rot in a field. Even fur animals are used completely after the hide is removed.
Case in point, the HSUS and other AR groups continue to deceive people, and this instance shows that they still think lying is good business.
