Gus Van Sant cited for DUI, too much Xmas cheer

PORTLAND, Ore.- Filmmaker Gus Van Sant, whose directing credits include the classic "Drugstore Cowboy," has been arrested in Portland on suspicion of drunken driving, police said. Sgt. Brian Schmautz, Portland Police Bureau spokesman, said Van Sant, 54, was arrested at 1:48 a.m. Thursday. According to The Seattle Post Intelligencer, the Kentucky native blew twice the legal limit.An observant officer noticed Van Sant was allegedly driving his vehicle without the headlights on, said Schmautz.The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that Van Sant, a resdient of Portland, had "bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and failed the sobriety tests."Van Sant has recently been filming "Paranoid Park" around the city of Portland.
