Not a fanDec 20th, 2006 - 20:40:15

I think the Beatles were exceedingly overrated. Most of their music was meaningless and empty, like much of the drivel on the radio today.

Not a fan. You are indeed a sour note aren't you. As the saying goes, if you don't have anything good to say, then don't say it at all. So perhaps I should take my own medicine. ;-)

Lighten up!

The Beatles meant much to many other people, even if not you. Don't begrudge other people their happiness.

Let it be!

if the beatles were so insignifcant why was the FBI interested and why did it take 25 years to release the overrated or over classified information.

like the man/band said 'all you need is love'.

not a fan, would you care to give us some examples of music which exemplify the values you see lacking in that of the Beatles?

Lennon could be weird at times but knew what went into a song. the fbi just like your local police have nothing better to do so look into anybody's life, and they do too. ahhhhhhh......look at all the lonely people.....where do they all come from???

I still like the Beatles music, it's the message that stinks.
They were the blind leading the blind.

All you need is God. All other alternatives lead to death.
Jesus is the truth and the way to life.

Why did such talented men not use their God given talents to glorify
God rather than themselves?

Imagine their is no heaven or hell all you want, it won't change a thing.

Ex Fan,
not everything is about your god, dude. I believe that the beatles believed in some other form of spirituality (Hindu and Buddhist influences for sure). I think the message is simple enough - 'All You Need Is Love' Which is really the fundamental message from Christianity; 'love thy neighbor'. so I don't know how you could think the message stinks.

also they were revolutionary songwriters and performers.

Typical Christrian fundamentalism, x fan. Judging people and pushing your 'laws' on everyone just because thier values are different than yours. Jesus said, 'Love thy neighbor', not 'Love thy neighbor only if he is a Christian'. Jesus is love. And He said 'Come as you are' - meaning don't judge less you be judged. Have you not sinned???? Go ahead and cast the first stone then. I'll just listen to my white album.

I believe that it's true that the release of te John Lennon FBI files could lead to retaliation against the US by foreign powers . After all they reveal some serious security flaws in US intelligence (intelligence as in IQ not in the sense of spying). In othe words now that these papers are out any terrost will know what idios the FBI and CIA really are and that's scary.

so it seems that not everyone agrees, I am a one half beatle fan.
Yay=John and Ringo, Boo=Paul, eh=George, so what.
IMHO The point is the knee jerk facism of the gov has not been left in the
60-70;s but has continued unabated for decades and only revealing the truth
of their obsesive compulsive desire to keep everything secret has prevented
anyone from understanding this, current admin is a prime example.
Gimme some truth. and oh yeah, don't we want (er, need) a revolution?

These forums make me sad...Dec 21st, 2006 - 19:57:20

#1. The Beatles connected to more people musically than anyone in history. There is a very good reason for that.

#2. As for YOUR God, please make me feel better and tell me that you chose Christianity AFTER researching all the major religions of the world and CHOOSING Christianity. Please don't tell me that you're a Christian who thinks all other religions are fake if you did not study them. My experience tells me that most people follow their parents on this.

anyway-

these documents show a black & white struggle between good and evil....art vs. government

I guess Lennon's lucky he didn't live long enough to be waterboarded by Dick Cheney's torturers. Somehow, I think the same mindset is still prevalent in the Bush administration, but with less chance of bringing them to heel. Our courageous Congress just gave amnesty--to the torturers.

I used to wonder how the Germans slipped so easily into the Nazi disease. Now I think I'm starting to understand. Make the public afraid with lies and misrepresentations. Start a war to band the peasantry together under a natural love of country. Appoint a group of scapegoats who can be afflicted at will. And encourage the inevitable sadists in the population by giving them free scope to exercise their perversion. Sieg Heil!

Nearly a day later, 'not a fan' - I'm truly curious what you find so lacking in the music of the Beatles, or why you would equate their music with today's pop music. I don't care about your politics or spiritual biases - talk about MUSIC. The fact that you find some music lacking in 'meaning' would seem to indicate that you find some music 'meaningful' - this separates you from the majority who don't bother to think about such things (not that you can blame them). But to make such an overarching statement about someone's artistic worth, then follow up with silence when the debate you initiated is accepted. . . I don't know. What do you even intend by 'meaning'?

To 'ex fan'

'I still like the Beatles music, it's the message that stinks.'
So, it's fair to say that you separate the two - music and lyrics? I would put it to you that that approach is fundamentally flawed, for a myriad of reasons. Perhaps you would prefer prefabed music with 'godly' lyrics, like much of today's Christian 'rock'? And really, what was the message, anyway? A few choice words among thousands they penned?

'They were the blind leading the blind.'
The Beatles may have had followers, but they were not leaders - they were musicians.

'All you need is God. All other alternatives lead to death.'
I will die, and you will die, irregardless of the differences in our conceptions of life and its supposed 'mysteries'.

'Jesus is the truth and the way to life.'
No, he is not, and I dare you to prove it. The onus is on you, not I, for making such a statement in the first place.

'Why did such talented men not use their God given talents to glorify
God rather than themselves?'

Sigh.

'Imagine their is no heaven or hell all you want, it won't change a thing.'
The insanity here is that some followers of your ilk have chosen to change the lyrics of Lennon's song to suit their own devices - '...and ONE religion, too' - absurd.
