Tobey Maguire loves not being typecast
Dec 20, 2006, 12:00 GMT
Tobey Maguire loved playing a baddie in new film 'The Good German' because it is so different from his role in 'Spider-Man'.
The 31-year-old actor plays GI black marketeer Patrick Tully, the rival of George Clooney's character Capt. Jacob 'Jake' Geismer in the World War II film, and admits it was great not having to be a superhero and save the day.
He said: "It was a lot of fun to do something so different to 'Spider-Man' and Peter Parker. This character is just plain sleazy - that made him fun to play."
It seems Clooney didn't enjoy Maguire's change of character as much as he did.
The 45-year-old star has had to wear a back brace since he injured his spine while filming torture scenes for 'Syriana', and he experienced discomfort when Maguire has to beat his character up in the movie.
Clooney, who played Batman in the much-maligned 'Batman and Robin' movie, told the Boston Herald newspaper: "I had to wear it when I get beaten up by Tobey. You know what, I thought I should've won that, too! But he's Spider-Man. I think that Spider-Man kicks an old Batman's ass."

Next time guys make sure you have the name of the film right. It's 'The Good German' not 'The Good Sheperd'. 'The Good Shepherd' is Matt Damon's new movie.
