Christina Ricci's PETA u-turn
Dec 20, 2006, 12:00 GMT
Christina Ricci insists she will never wear fur again.
The actress, who was named by PETA as one of the worst dressed celebrities of 2006 because of her penchant for animal hide, has vowed to be fur free in the future.
Christina, 26, has now written a letter to PETA apologising for her actions, which read: "After being named on the PETA worst dressed list for wearing fur, I have been deluged with angry and disappointed fans.
"I never meant to hurt nor anger anyone with my insensitivity. For what it is worth I have received the message loud and clear and will not be wearing fur in the future. I apologise for my offensive actions."
A PETA representative says Christina has now been removed from the worst dressed list. They added: "We have sent her a basket of cruelty-free goodies to thank her for her compassionate decision."
PETA recently criticised Christina for wearing reindeer fur on the cover of W magazine.
The animal rights group said: "Ricci recently posed for a magazine cover wearing fur from slaughtered reindeer. At least she is not into fur hats - imagine how many more pelts it would take to cover that forehead."
Christina's biggest fan website was closed down last week because the owner disapproved of her wearing fur.
The site, www.christinaricci.info, features the message: "Offline due to fur usage. I recently found out Christina doesn't appear to have a problem wearing fur. Well, I do. I also have a problem with people who wear fur. Conclusion: I have a problem with Christina. And now that problem is solved, because I don't have a website about her anymore, so I no longer have anything to do with her."

Good job Christina!
People usually have no idea about the millions of animals that get killed just to make fur clothes. Their living conditions since they are born are indescribable, they really go through pain and suffering living in total misery.
I was not a fan of Ricci but now I am!
Happy are the merciful since they will be shown mercy.
PETA said: 'We have sent her a basket of cruelty-free goodies to thank her for her compassionate decision.' But I don't think she did it out of compassion, she probably did it because PETA's pressure tactic worked. The negative publicity is what forced her to change her wardrobe.
p.s. The comment that compared PETA to al-Q sounds straight out of the Rush/O'Reilly school of ignorance. I'm embarrassed for you.
Don't be embarassed for me. I have the right to say what I want. You are absolutely right about the pressure tactic. She probably has a movie coming out soon. It's not ignorance, it's opinion. O'reilly is just a little farther right than me. The people that care about this are the same that are going to vote for Hillarious Clinton in '08. Ricci has the RIGHT, fought and died for, to wear whatever she may deem necessary. I feel sorry for her, caring that much about what a terrorist org. thinks. They may not fly planes into buildings, but read up on how many animals were dumped by PETA in the dumpsters behind their headquarters. They are no more a public service then the people (PETA, ALF, ELF)that burn buildings and damage equipment paid for with tax dollars, yours and mine. I have done the research, read all the articles on both sides. Thanks
>My God, who cares? PETA is a terrorist org. It's a proven fact. They are in >bed with ALF, ELF, and probably al queada.
And Santa, too? I consider any old fat guy who climbs down people's chimneys without permission and leaves gifts for children a terrorist pedophile. He doesn't seem to bother Christians, though.
>They make disparaging remarks about her forehead? How mature.
It's a sign of mental incapacity. My ex had a forehead like that. I think it comes from being raised by hicks.
>Animals are for us to use, they are not people.
By 'us' I assume you mean neaderthals? Thought you were all extinct. Huh.
>These people are not the majority. America, It's your right to wear fur, leather, whatever you want.
The revoltunaries in 1776 were not in the majority, either.
>If PETA has a problem with it, who cares? I now do not like Ricci for giving >in to terrorists. God save America and those that have died fighting for my >RIGHT to wear fur, leather, etc. I will now go out and buy a fur coat for my >wife who loves wearing it. I love animals too. They are delicious.
And they like YOU because you are - well - perhaps eatable. I suggest you wear all the fur you want on Kodiak Island and see what happens. No, you'll just go watch NASCAR and cheer on sweaty white southerners in tight jumpsuits like the rest of red state Amerikkka. Don't forget your confederate flag!
While we're rambling on off topic - stormy what a ridiculous post. Santa? Don't forget your confederate flag? Your ex's large forehead? Brilliant stuff.
Everyone always has to have the most smartass comment they can come up with. What happened to actual discourse rather than who can be the most insulting.
I agree with the guy who says that people died for our right to wear whatever we want. They did and are dying today for our freedom. And that is exactly what it is. Would you rather see her in a burka? (or not see her?)
On the other hand I do see PETA and other conservationists point. Some, NOT ALL, research is pointless and usless and done just to keep a lab going and get research grants to keep the machine going. Millions of animals died pointlessly over the years and millions also died providing us with answers to medical questions that we could not have solved any other way. I have a degree in science so it is not a laymans opinion.
But for Ms. Ricci to cave if that is not something she really believes in pandering. I like to watch her because she is hot, I could care less what her politics are. It isn't like I'm going to meet her on the street and she is going to have a cup of coffee with me so we can discuss it.
Christina Ricci is hot? Wow. That's a whole other news story.
'PETA is a terrorist org. It's a proven fact.'
Haha. Who proved that? Is this going to be in an encyclopedia entry?
'They are in bed with ALF, ELF, and probably al queada.'
Alf eats cats. They wouldn't sleep with him because he practices animal cruelty. Duh.
'America, It's your right to wear fur, leather, whatever you want. If PETA has a problem with it, who cares?...God save America and those that have died fighting for my RIGHT to wear fur, leather, etc.'
Oh, come on. I'm all about honoring our veterans. But they were not thinking about your right to wear fur when they were fighting. For crying out loud, when were fur rights ever a big issue for our country? They fought for states rights, for civil rights, for separation from a detached, oppressive foreign government. They didn't fight for my right to have a Snicker's. That's about as unimportant as my right to wear fur. People don't die for that. No one died for my right to wear fur.
They did fight for your right to say that PETA are terrorists and for PETA's right to call Christina Ricci a terrorist. So what is Christina Ricci compromised for a buck. Show me your unblemished record.
And Hillary Clinton is about as far from hilarious as you can get. She's cold and boring. What a dumb nickname.
The only thing I agree with you about, who cares, is that steak is quite good.

I'm not even sure why I'm posting on this, because one thing I have learned over the years is that majority of the time, one persons opinion is not going to be a causal reason for someone changing thier mind.
That being said, when PETA was for the protection of animals in testing facilities and that was their main focus, I was a member. When they decided to start throwing blood on people and acting like a bunch of pissed off middleschoolers, I bailed. I still believe in animal rights, but I'm no extremist. I do wear leather, although mostly pleather. I donate time and $ to shelters, but sometimes it's just better for the animal to euthanize. I eat organic meat. I wear cruelty free makeup, and organic cotton. I eat GMO foods because I would rather eat a frankenweinie than breathe pesticides. I love my great grandmothers fox stowe, even though I don't wear it. Why would I throw it out? What point will that serve? It was made 75 years ago, maybe more.
Balance people. Speak your mind. Live your life. Don't intrude on others. That's the message I want to give PETA. I would hear them more if they didn't act like they do. IF they just portrayed the lifestyle and didn't get in peoples faces, then I may listen to them. IMO, PETA is no better than some Christian organizations who feel that it is their God given right to yell at you about your faith. While I don't compare PETA to al-qaeda, thier message comes across the same way to me, extreme. The only way it influences me is to influence me to not listen to a word they say
People are animals. 'Who cares' is obviously very afraid of that fact.
the point so many 'conservatives' miss with regards to vegans or animal rights groups is the fact that slaughtering hundreds of billions of sentient beings is 100% completely unnecessary...and definately 100% in the case of fur, and the evidence is pretty clear that people live longer and much much healthier on diets devoid of animal products...so why do it?
because we can? for flavor?
because these beings have limited mental capacity?
if those are good enough reasons to kill mass quantities of sentient beings then why aren't we doing research, eating, or wearing coats made from mentally handicapped people? human 'vegetables'?
because it is the moral obligation of the capable to protect the weaker beings, and not abuse the position of dominance we find ourselves in.
despite what all the treehugging lovers of cute and fuzzy animals would have you think, it's not all about the individual rights of cute and fuzzy animals. It's the desire to adhere to higher moral standards than the 'majority'.

My God, who cares? PETA is a terrorist org. It's a proven fact. They are in bed with ALF, ELF, and probably al queada. They make disparaging remarks about her forehead? How mature. Animals are for us to use, they are not people. Didn't PETA compare the WTC with chickens? These people are not the majority. America, It's your right to wear fur, leather, whatever you want. If PETA has a problem with it, who cares? I now do not like Ricci for giving in to terrorists. God save America and those that have died fighting for my RIGHT to wear fur, leather, etc. I will now go out and buy a fur coat for my wife who loves wearing it. I love animals too. They are delicious.
