Amazing singer and winner of the nearly identical format of American Idol television show, the X-Factor, which airs in the UK, has introduced the latest best thing from England: Leona Lewis.
Lewis says she is still in shock after her "unbelievable" win this season on the hit British TV series, "X-Factor."
The 21-year-old beauty, whose first musical single has sold more than 50,000 copies, told The Mail on Sunday her victory was a dream come true.
"I'm just shocked. It's unbelievable," she confessed. "I feel like my dream has come true, the dream I've been dreaming since a little girl has come true."
"X-Factor" host Simon Cowell said that the "A Moment Like This" singer, who is now the first woman to ever win the ITV series, will spend some time in preparing her first album.
"Leona has an opportunity, I think, to become a major, major worldwide star. We're not going to make an album quickly; we're going to make the best possible album. It's obviously in Leona's interests to make an album she's comfortable with and try and make everyone who voted for her proud that we've found a British girl who's up there with the Mariahs and the Whitneys."

Actually Adam, I think you will find that the format of Pop Idol originated in Australia. One of the original judges of Pop Idol Nigel (can't remember his surname) and ex-manager of the Spice Girls Simon Fuller spotted it's potential and brought the rights to use in the US and UK territories. This led to the law suit against Simon Cowell and the creators of X-Factor which was settled out of court earlier this between Simon Fuller and Cowell respectively.
Just to clarify
Pop Idol was based on Popstars which was originally seen by Nigel Lythgoe whilst holidaying in New Zealand. Popstars(NZ) was created by producer Jonathan Dowling who, through the show, formed the 5 member all-girl group TrueBliss. He then sold the concept to other countries, initially to Australia and then to the UK before taking it worldwide.
Regards
Mark.
ACTUALLY Popstars started in New Zealand with TrueBliss then went to Australia
I think you'll find TV was invented in England therefore....
Okay........ but we all agree X-Factor is not a clone of American Idol?
Thanks guys, I knoew it was in that part of the world, but we can ALL agree it is not a clone of American Idol. The Idol format is pretty much world wide, and looks the same in each country with the exception of presenters and judges off course!
Ireland's class!!!!!!!!
Agreed all US catches up last with most of these shows (esp. pop idol format), yet they claim them all. Very bizarre.
Well I don't know where it was from but I do know that american idol copied pop idol from England. Just like the rest of the countries did like it had on the x factor the other day. There was American Idol, Canadian dol and NZ Idol! Well then I think that Mark was wrong when he said it origionated from NZ because why was there one called NZ Idol? Just saying LOL

hiya i think leona is great nd very pretty she has got a brilliant voice nd i wish i can be like her!!!!!!!!!!
Leona apparently has a 4 octave vocal range. this is based upon her X factor performances
Leona is a spectacular talent. I wonder if ANY of the divas could have sang 'Lovin You' like this at 15 years old:

The X factor is NOT the same format as American idoll..its rather different actually. Simion spends more money on it for one...
Ready or Not, Leona is taking over!!!
Whitney still rules the singing birds: Leona is on her way to the top!!

TV is not an English invention... it's a Scottish one. John Logie Baird.
Also most 'reality' shows now as they are are conceived in the U.K. and are transported to the U.S. Including American Idol, which was Pop Idol, which was a spin-off from Popstars.
Dancing with the Stars for example is the U.S. version of Strictly Come Dancing. There is also Property Ladder, Super Nanny, Wife Swap, How Clean is Your House to name but a few. The Office and Football Wives are also remakes of British programming.
The main difference is that each judge has to mentor a category in the X-Factor. This is also a big change since categories iclude groups and the over 25's. Also the two acts with the least votes from the public have a sing-off and the judges then eliminate one of the acts.
Having seen both, X Factor is more streamlined and fast-paced and results are announced at the end of the show in one swoop instead of spread across the ensuing show the next night.
The English guy 'No-One knows or cares about' is Louis Walsh and he's Irish. He's not very good and doesn't know what he's talking about... kinda like Paula Abdul but he's got a bigger self opinion and doesn't look like he's tripping half the time.

I think you will find that American Idol is a clone of 'Pop Idol' which is a British TV show. The x-factor is basically a spin-off from “pop Idol” and “pop stars” and “pop stars the rivals” which are all British made TV shows. The X-Factor is certainly NOT a clone of American Idol!
