John Edwards to run in 2008 Presidential race
By Stone Martindale Dec 16, 2006, 21:42 GMT
Former Democratic VP hopeful John Edwards plans to announce his 2008 bid for the presidential race for the White House, according to two Democratic officials reports Reuters. David Ginsberg, Edwards' spokesman, would not confirm or deny that Edwards planned to announce he would run in 2008.
Edwards, the one-term from North Carolina plans to make the campaign announcement late this month from the New Orleans neighborhood hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina last year.
Among Democrats, Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois and Rep. Dennis Kucinich are expected to make runs. Only Kucinich has made his intentions officially known.
Edwards was a top fundraiser in the race for the nomination in 2004 before he became Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry's running mate.
Reuters reports that Edwards has spent time building relationships with labor leaders and traveling overseas to build his foreign policy credentials beyond his one term in the Senate.
Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh announced to the press he would not seek the presidency in 2008. According to the Democratic National committee, Bayh had been a leading candidate in early fundraising.

Edwards is nothing more than a good speaker. So he traveled overseas, big deal! Why not travel to other parts of this country that have been hard hit, instead of concentrating on only New Orleans? If this is any indication of the effort that the Democrats are going to put into the 2008 elections, I'm not going to even bother voting.
I met Senator Edwards and talked with him for a long time after the 2005 defeat. He came to a library in my area. Only about 25 people knew about it. I found him to be very knowlegeable, caring, intelligent and particularly someone who cared about 'the little guy.' His love for his wife really spoke volumes as well.
He made a very postive impression on me and I would defintely support him in his race to be the Democratic nominee.
Having all kinds of foreign policy experience may not turn out to be a major plus in 2008. Look what Bush and all his folks have done in the past six years. I am grateful for Bush's support for Israel, but I expect Demoratic candidates to show also unwavering support. Clinton was a great friend to Israel.
I think John Edwards is a great canidate for President. Most people here in Kentucky like him, he will be stronger in the South than any of the others running, democrats need to jump on the bandwagon and support John Edwards. Young people really like him. Thanks from Steve from Kentucky.
He's a winner. He can pick-up some Southern States; His wife alone is worth 3 to 5% of the popular vote, she definitely adds to the ticket. Bush would not have been elected without Laura at his side. Pick a V.P. from a Red Sate like Bayh and you might have the dream ticket. You need a Southern strategy to win.
Kerry's wife although very smart and thoughtful in her own right detracted from the ticket. America still wants a first lady that can connect with the average woman. This is not meant to be sexist at all, it's just the way it is!
