Miss USA pulls a 'Lohan,' Trump not having it

By Stone Martindale Dec 16, 2006, 3:30 GMT

Miss USA is under fire for her underage partying ways, much like most of young Hollywood, except "The Donald" isn't having it and may just strip the title from Tara Conner.

Donald Trump is America's most visible real estate mogul, tv star and co-owner of the Miss Universe contest, and after allegations of underage drinking and bad behavior have surfaced, Trump, also the host of the reality television hit The Apprentice and a man known for his tea-totalling ways and strict disciplinarian rules for his own children, will make the decision next week whether to fire Tara Conner as Miss USA 2006.

According to the New York Post, the Miss Universe Organization states it was re-evaluating Miss Conner’s “behavioral and personal issues” after news and blogger reports surfaced that Conner had been boozing it up way around Manhattan and not using discretion in the love department either.

“We have to make a decision,” Mr Trump, 60, said to the AP. “There is no question about that.”

The legal age for drinking is 21 in the United States.

Conner is a Kentucky girl, a place that is home to a multitude of dry (no alcohol) counties and extremely fundamentally religious people who frown on imbibing.  Ironically, it is also the source of fine American bourbon whiskey too.

Since arriving in the Big Apple, the Bluegrass state gal Conner allegedly has been linked to all sorts of after-hours goings on.

What's The ProblemDec 16th, 2006 - 05:34:03

I mean first of all Trump isn't a role model. 3 divorces? what a joke
he is to be judging someone. Let the woman do what she wants. America's
morals have been down the drain for a long time. Lets don't stop now
Donald.

You're right. And the other contradiction is forbidding alcohol under 21, while drafting youngsters for Iraq, so they can freely get killed over there.
But, I can understand Mr Trump so far. The deal with his contest is : 'You were contestant, and you won the title of miss America. This Title means you're for a year the iconic, ideal, young american girl, a potentially perfect wife and mother-to-be.' In France, such constests happen once a year too, and its promoter also blasted 'bad' girls in the past for their public behavior, like posing nude for adult magazines. Eventually, each country has its standards. The girl that wins has more duties than rights during its year of public appearances, because she's a Miss, and she agreed to be one.

Ummm, no one has been 'drafted' to go to Iraq.
Everyone volunteered to join the military.

I've never liked Donald, never have found any of his activities on television very entertaining. But I applaud him for setting these standards and enforcing them.

If only movie/tv studios, sports franchises, and other groups overseeing 'roll models' would follow suit.

Just like Vanessa Williams before her....... Tara Conner will make lots of money after she's stripped of her title. A large percentage of American women today don't see the least thing wrong with provocative behavior (like Britany showing off her goods). Just as long as that provocative behavior is on HER terms, not his.

Gee the 'Donald' has a lot of nerve making a judgement concerning women, since the Donald has a reputation for trading in the old models in for brand new ones. Lighten up on this person. Underage drinking was a problem for my generation and seems to continue up to the present and even in New York.

The Donald is a 60 year old fart who thinks he's hot. What a shallow and vain person. If only he knew that his only attraction for women is that he has alot of money (Most of it is debt) His stock Trump hasn't went north for 15 years.
Why are women attracted to this asshole ? Are they that desperate ? Why do they stroke his already inflated ego ? And is haircut is awful ! Hey Donald, your 60 years old, man, act your age !!

Donald Trump is a business man. Now he is part of the clergy? Let him answer how many, by quota, prostitutes are allowed in his casinos in Atlantic City.

The very contest itself is a debasement of women, and that is why he 'owns' it.

He has a problem with women, always has, and always will.

like all republicans, donald trump is full of contradictions. yes after 3 divorces, and his playboy ways, he wants the beauty queen fired because she isn't a role model? sounds very much like those religious fundamentalists who would preach all this homophobia from the pulpit and who engage in the same behavior. life is sooo full of these contradictions!

It's legally wrong to drink under age. Morals and ethics are up to each of us to teach our own kids as we see fit (and that system has failed in America in a huge way and continues to spiral downhill fast). Was she arrested for drinking under age? If not, then our legal system has failed again also. The Donald should take back her title... its the responsible thing to do although it may be the pot calling the kettle black... if others in similar positions would do the same, then it would reverse the collective downhill spiral of ethics in this country, but the all mighty dollar prevails and that's because people have collectively made it more important than morals or ethics.

Get over YourselvesDec 16th, 2006 - 17:24:13

Let's see... since none of us posting, including Donald, have lived perfect lives, then none of us have any right to criticize the behavior of others either. I guess we should let whatever is 'legal' define our behavior, and leave striving to overcome our immorality something left for people who we view as 'self-righteous'. Forget trying to set standards for young people, they can make their own decisions. Besides they know everything they need to having only been around for 18 years...

Regardless of what Trump's personal views are and the way he lives his life, this is about enforcing the rules and regulations of the Miss USA pageant, not about Trump himself. If Tara Conner is not following the guidelines and rules of being Miss USA, then she should be stripped of her crown. Plain and simple. It's not just 'walk down the runway and look pretty carrying a bouquet of roses while they sing a song'. There is responsibility that comes with accepting the crown. Yes, morals have gone down in this country, but it's good to know, the Miss USA Organization (Trump) is going to do something about it. What are you going to do?

This is about the pagent, not the war on terror or Donald Trump. Young women watch what the winners do and emulate them. Is this the type of conduct parents want of their daughters? I think not.

She's fired!Dec 17th, 2006 - 07:17:16

Miss Universe has always been about showing model-type women both in terms of looks and behavior. That's why they all talk about peace in the world etc. So to get drunk and engage in coituses is not what she's supposed to do. She's supposed to be nice, beautiful, pure, wannabe-non-virgin (oops, I did it again!) and all those things that make us enjoy teen novels and the Miss Universe-type shows. So, we need to keep these ideals intact, to enjoy our illusions that there is something good and genuine about this intrinsically bad and evil world.

So I don't give a damn about whether it is Donald Trump or Al Gore himself... Just kick the spoiled teen whore out. Too bad we can't burn her as witch, too (and I bet she is, just look how she lets her hair hang)... That would make for a nice family show... And would definitely steal some ratings from MTV's 'My Super Sweet 16,' I assure you.

Donald Trump is a democrat, he gives to democratic candidates almost 2.5:1 over republicans:

On the issue of miss USA, she was well aware of the morals clause, it goes with the territory. Regardless of how hypocritical Trump is or isn't, they are 100% justified in taking her crown.

donald has had the best always he doesnt have the right too say how a small town girl should be carring on . His kids never had too want for fun it was at there disposal at their every whim. AS for don, nieve he should be more broad mined as too rural life, its not all pickett fences and little tree lined streets kids will be kids. In fact i know some adults around here whom have the don complex and i am from the K- MART parking lot crowd but in my day it was a bolling alley parking lot here in rural pa. SO donald the king give and take is the golden rule how abought giving a little glory too an homegrown country girl not some princess as your acoutstoum too.

Trump held the upper hand until he cut her loose. If he were more conserned for the girl than the image of one of his corporations, he'd have tried to have her guided into a safer arrangement.

She did nothing a college freshman doesn't do, except that she has so much cash and name recognition backing. Doubt that I would have survived those days if I'd had her resources.

Sometimes this happens when you take someone with less worldly experiences and background and put them in the spotlight. Its happened with all sports players but the double standard is 'hey it's a guy thing'.

Makes me wonder where Trump's head is? Take a small town girl give her a million dollar apartment all expenses paid and cut her loose on New York just to seek how well she lasts or watch as she crashes and burns. Please remember she is still under 21, knowing full well that it isn't a magic number, she also may never have had the opportunity to consider the choices she is currently presented with.

Also if I were a betting man, I'd give you even odds that her parents asked Trump to cut the strings so they could get their daughter back before too much damage was done (or so they could finish the job they so far failed to do).

The Queen and the MeanDec 18th, 2006 - 05:02:34

There are 2 tragedies playing out here: the Queen and the Mean.

The Queen: If Mr. Trump really cares about Miss America pageant and its participants, then he could have influenced getting her into counseling, intervention, or other care. He could have done it personally. Her family surely must be concerned and would want the best for her. So should he.

The Mean: To summarily fire her may reinforce his reality show attitude about poor performance, but it will certainly dampen the American Public's enthusiasm for Miss America going forward. Less TV viewership. Money. He understands THAT.

He owns the pageant and he can do what he wants, but coming down hard on an underage girl is always bad form.
