Actor James Purefoy: 'When in Rome..'
By Stone Martindale Dec 15, 2006, 14:56 GMT
American audiences have fallen for another handsome English leading man, Somerset native James Purefoy, who has been portraying the lover of Atia (Polly Walker) and Cleopatra, Roman general Mark Antony on HBO's "Rome," filmed at Cinecita studios in Rome.
Purefoy was born and brought up in Somerset, and was accepted onto the acting course at the Central School of Speech and Drama. The British actor tells ContactMusic.com that refuses to rule out having sex with another man, even though he is heterosexual.
Citing his education in typical English fashion at an all-boys private school, he tells ContactMusic that his experiences there opened his eyes sexually. He says, "Never say never... Anyone who went to an English (private) school in the 1970s will have had some gay experience.
"You bang 500 adolescent hormonal boys together at exactly the same time when they're exploring their sexuality, and don't be surprised if some shenanigan comes out of it."
In 2004 he appeared in four different films. He starred alongside Oscar winning actress Reese Witherspoon in a big adaptation of the classic novel Vanity Fair, as well as appearing in Goose!, George and the Dragon and Blessed.
