Everybody loved Peter Boyle
By Stone Martindale Dec 13, 2006, 20:34 GMT
Veteran actor Peter Boyle, who played the father of Ray Romano on the CBS comedy "Everbody Loves Raymond," and who starred in many films, died Tuesday night in New York at the age of 71.
Boyle was also known for his hilarious take on the musically bewitched Frankenstein monster in the Mel Brooks comedy, Young Frankenstein in 1974.
Boyle also turned in a critically acclaimed performance in the 1977 television film Tail Gunner Joe, where he played the dreaded Senator Joseph McCarthy.
Known for his excellent supporting roles, Boyle's work shone as a character actor. Some of his better known roles include appearances in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver opposite Robert De Niro, in which he played fellow cab driver, "The Wizard," "The Dream Team," "Monster's Ball," "Outland" and "The Candidate." Boyle won an Emmy award in 1996 as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for a guest appearance on The X-Files.
Boyle is probably best known to audiences today for his role as the cranky Frank Barone in the hit series for CBS, "Everybody Loves Raymond," which aired from 1996 until 2005.
He was repeatedly nominated for an Emmy for this role, but never won.
Peter Boyle died in New York on December 12th, 2006 at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Chips, Marie!
You'll be missed, Pete. RIP.
RIP Peter- your Frankenstein monster will go down in history as one of the best-
thanks for all the laughs over the years
I too felt so, so sad to read about his death......his quick comments on Raymond just made the show!! How sad, our family watched 'Everyone Loves Raymond' so much, I feel like I know him. I know it was a character he played, but what a lost!!! I can't imagine what the cast of the show feels like!! Thoughts and prayers to his family!!
I remember seeing him in 'Joe' years and years ago, it was a sort of anti-Easy Rider at the time.
Great actor, will be missed.
My hero is gone.......What a loss, R.I.P. Peter
I guess Marie beat you---or did you win????
If you care to see some understated brilliance, watch Peter's performance in Yellowbeard.
The man was amazing, and like many others have said before me, he was a kind and loving man. He will be dearly missed.
Peter, I'll miss you and your acting. You were one of my favorites. Rest in Peace.
What a great loss! He made the Raymond Show. All I could say was 'Holy Crap!'
I can remember laughing at his monster character in Young Frankenstein when I was a young child. Thanks for the laughs Peter. You were dearly loved by your fans and you will be greatly missed. Kiss the stars for me.
Truly, two of the best laughs I've ever had from television were from Peter Boyle. 'Puttin' on the ritz' from Young Frankenstein, And Frank's comment to Ray on Everybody loves Raymond...'Kill is going to Debra you!'. A fantastic talent, and a terrible loss to family, friends, and everyone who enjoyed his work.
The man was an awesome genius. I have always loved his work, but his role in the X-files won him an especially warm spot in my heart. When I read that he was ill, I was tempted to write a fan letter for the first time ever. I regret now that I didn't do it, but I know that there is such an outpouring of grief at Mr. Boyle's passing today that his spirit knows how much he was loved by all his fans.
Goodbye,Peter. You will be dearly missed. Your talent and your character were a credit and a blessing to the world of entertainment. Rest in peace.
Character actors are often the heart and soul of good drama. Peter Boyle was one of the great ones!
Glad to see a mention of 'Tail Gunner Joe.' One of the scariest movies I ever saw. Wonder how it'd play today...
I was surprised to read that John Lennon was best man at his wedding...there's a whole lot more to Peter Boyle than Frank Barone! God Bless him
I went to the same High School as Peter Boyle and was present the year he was inducted into the West Catholic Hall of Fame I was told he considered Mass to be the greatest theater and for those of you who didn't know he was a christian brother for about three years PETE U WILL BE MISSED

Usually when I hear about the passing of familiar actors, I say to myself, 'Oh, that's too bad.' But having heard about Peter Boyle's death, I feel something more significant than mild regret; I'm truly saddened. I'll miss Peter Boyle.
