Sir Paul McCartney is surprised at how good The Beatles' songs are.
The music legend - who is currently going through an ugly divorce battle with Heather Mills - says she is often left shocked when he listens back to the band's old records because they are so impressive.
He told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "I look back on Beatles songs and wonder how we did it.
"One of the joys of touring is revisiting songs we never performed on stage. I'll sing them for the first time in 40 years and think, 'These are young composers, a nice song.' Then I'll hear a line or chord change and think, 'Bloody hell, that's good.'"
The 64-year-old musician along with the late John Lennon penned the majority of the Fab Four's biggest hits and both are regarded as two of the greatest songwriters of all time.
Sir Paul is currently in the process of divorcing second wife Heather who he has a three-year-old daughter, Beatrice, with.

That's right Paul. I feel the same way when I listen to my old Beatle recordings. Remarkable not only for their time, but in any generation.
In fact, one of the liabilities of our music ratings systems is to disregard those lesser known works of prolific artists like the Lennon/McCarney team.
Too bad they were relegated by DJ's and record companies to lesser status, in the interest of promoting the 'A' cuts. Certainly, the top 40's lists sold millions of records, but too many people missed out on such gems as 'Fool On the Hill', especially after a few years passed and only the Big Name songs
were being played on so-called oldies radio. Personally, I believe we need genuine 'New Classics' media, run by music lovers who seek out and play those lesser known tunes. Not to neglect the early 'videos', in which the Beatles also broke fresh ground with the films 'Hard Days Night', 'Yellow Submarine',
and 'Magical Mystery Tour'. Is it still possible to find those first great videos for 'Penny Lane' and 'Strawberry Fields'? I haven't seen either in 40 years. Nice to know Paul, that you too, still enjoy the caliber of work the Beatles created, as do millions of us out here in the world. My Thanks to you and the other lads, for all of it.

James,
ALL the videos are on Youtube. Happy watching.

yes Paul... The Beatles were a head of there time. Only recorded for 7 years and did all of that. Paul...you and John wanted to be the best, to be bigger then Elvis and you guys were, 'Law of Atraction' that's what it was, and in the end John lost the drive, but you still had it. and had you gone on like the Stones who knows what may have come out, I can't even Imagine it. Bob
'Lesser known tunes'....? There are no 'lesser known tunes' by the Beatles. Perhaps you are simply too young to know that when the Beatles first came out, every radio station was playing Beatle music, 24 hours per day. Stations competed with each other.
As the Beatles evolved, great care was taken to release the Beatles music so as not to become stale or forgotten. Albums were greatly expected and highly anticipated and played on the air even before released. The Beatles and their management needed not to have worried, every word of every song was remembered by us, and for one very good reason besides the music being great. When we played the Beatles, we had records with grooves, very handy for stopping and replaying passages over and over unlike today where you can't go back trac by trac.
Not even the Rolling Stones can brag about as much popularity as the Beatles when it comes to knowing every song and every word. No band has ever duplicated the feat. One only has to google the word 'Beatles' and you will see that I am right. Not one group before or since has been recognized for their lyrics nor their music. More of your 'lesser known' music of the Beatles has been recorded by others or made into simple elevator music than any recording star on the planet, including Elvis.

Hey Paul, we could have told you that the Beatles produced great music! I'm sure I'm among many who are still enjoying it (and singing along) even after all these years.
