Clooney's pig dies
Dec 5, 2006, 8:00 GMT
George Clooney's beloved potbellied pig Max has died.
The pet passed away at the 'Syriana' actor's Hollywood home from old age. He was suffering from arthritis and partial blindness.
Clooney told the USA Today newspaper: "He was as old a pig as the vets had ever seen. I was really surprised when he went. I'm really upset, he's been a big part of my life."
The 45-year-old actor had Max for 18 years, and often spoke of his affection for his pet hog, referring to him as "Max, the star". He even shared his bed with the pig.
Max is not the only animal friend Clooney has lost this year.
He explained: "It has been a bad year for my pets. I had a bulldog that died this year, too. It's strange how animals become a bit part of your family. They really become a big issue with you."
Although he is deeply upset about Max's passing, Clooney has no intention of replacing him with another swine.
He said: "No, I won't be getting another one. I think Max covered all my pig needs."

Truly our animal companions become part of our family. There's a book that I recommend to all who are new to cats called 'Love is a Happy Cat' - I assume you could say the same of pot-bellied pigs.
We had to put our pet dog down after 14 years last month. As I recall we did not expect major news organizations to write articles about it. Why is Clooney's pig soooooooooooo important? Might we all be better served with some in-depth reporting on Darfur or the African AIDS epidemic? I would much prefer the obituary of a fallen soldier on the front page. Where are our priorities?
This stupid verizon popup made impossible for me to read this story. Maybe i'm daft, but I can't see how to make it go away.
I hate pets...

I love pigs. Bacon, pork chops, fat-back, pork-n-beans, you name it I love it. Pig sells for overs 2.00 bucks a pound whole-sale. Unless you buy it by the truck load.
I like pigs. Ham, sausage, bacon, ham hocks, greasy pig fat, pork rinds. LOVE ME SOME PIGLETS.
I really understend Clooney's feelings. Pets are a big part of our emotional life. Personally, I'm a cat's fan but I am respecting everybody's taste for pets.
I think that Mr C have to find another pet.
Wait, are you guys saying that all those tasty foods (bacon, pork chops, ham, etc.) come from ONE animal? One delicious magical animal. I'll bet some Clooney Pig baby back ribs would fetch a high price at Sotherby's. Not to mention feed a family of 4 in Zaire for a week. I'll bet that pig had more money spent on medical treatment in it's lifetime than 3/4 of the world's population.

I deeply understand Mr. Clooney's sorrow. I have two dogs and have spent nights at end when they have ailed. yes the little pup crawls on to my bed in teh morning and snuggles up every now and then for a cuddle. I cant even imagine what will I do if and when I lose either of them. We are a family of two humans and two dogs.
