To be buried in accordance with Islamic tradition means:

The body is laid to rest directly in the earth in a hollow cavity, or nowadays if in a cement vault (to prevent sagging above the grave) then handfuls of earth will be added by the mourners. (Ashes to ashes and dust to dust is also part of Islam)

There is no embalming of the body or cremation.

The body is wrapped in a plain white sheet. And lain down on the right side facing Mecca.

No expensive coffins or ornamentation placed in the grave. No watches, jewelry or expensive suit, just the plain white sheet. (You can't take it with you in Islam.) It is only one's deeds in this life and good works that live after them that will follow them to the day of judgement.

The body is prepared by washing it first. Gender separation is observed even when a person dies. A young women's body will not be prepared for burial by men and vice versa. With the private parts being covered during preparation to maintain modesty even in death.

Although on the day of judgement, humanity will stand together naked before the Lord and Creator of all. I don't think people will be smirking about being nude in the presence of others; male and female whilst standing in front of the Supreme Lord of Justice with heaven and hell in the balance.

Mourners will recite prayers for the deceased and a small burial marker not higher than a hands width should be placed above the grave to mark it. Although in recent times you will find more elaborate head stones.

First thing in a crime scene investigators do is look for cause. Only thing that make's any sense in this case is just like Victor Ostrovsky(Mossad agent, book: By way of Deception) he exposed terrorist policies of his own state, which creates/causes security threats to scare its own populace in order to stay in power. Only difference between the two is that Israel was smart politically and didn't touch Victor and let the people keep questioning his whistle blowing.

Alexander Litvinenko said in his book that (FSB - Russian CIA) carried out the bombing on the apartments and blamed it on the Chechen's and invaded Chechnya again and killed scores of civilians just so Putin can come to power.

I invite everyone to study Islam and find out about this hidden treasure not just rely on what they hear in the media and the practice of a few vocal ignorant 'Muslims'. People owe it to themselve to find out the truth and then make the decision whether or not this is the final, complet and eternal message from the Almighty.

I pray that Mr. Litvinenko is in heavens right now.

Since when are ex-kgb agents part of any religion. In Soviet Russia, no practicing christian would be part of this organization. You had to deny any belief in a God-like being, a Creator as most church-synagogue-temple-mosque-praying house- goer would understand it. The only super power they believed in was the Supreme Soviet. So 'converted to islam' might not be the appropriate term to use in this context.

Just a thought.

Mr. Litvinenko is in Heaven? I hope not - Heaven is no place for ex-kgb agents, no matter what religion they decide to try and wash off their sins. The way I know them, old allegiances are very well kept in this organization - no matter where they go.

ISLAM says that when a person, nomatter what he/she has been doing in the past, seeks forgiveness from Lord wholeheartedly with the intentention of never to do forbidden things again, all of the person's sins are forgiven by Lord. I would request every one to study Islam and then use your own judgement to evaluate without any preconceived notions. May Lord guide us all to the best path.

I believe There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messanger of Allah.
Whatever God had Written and Fated, we have no control on this. This is his destiny.Whatever Mr.Litvinenko had suffered and gone through is between him and God.As long as he has converted and believe in Islam even to his last breath, he will be cleared from all sins, just like a new born baby. This is promise by Allah The Almighty.

I suppose if you had low enough moral values to be part of the KGB, you can join another group of blood thirsty individuals called Muslims.

I feel it irrelevant to the story at large that he converted, but I left the dreadful religion of Islam a long time ago after discovering the deeds of the warlord Mohammed. I suggest everyone else research the ideas behind Islam for themselves so they can see with their own eyes the EVIL and INHUMANITY this religion represents.

My Allah wipe ISLAM off the face of the earth.

Mr. Litvinenko, if he passed away as a sincere muslim, I envy him as what accounts in islam is the final stage of your life. If he did convert, his past actions are forgiven according to islamic teaching and paradise is his abode and compensation.May he rest in peace. The door of islam is exclusively open to the non belivers even at the last of their breath. What a privilege and how the almighty Allah is generous to his servants!

Islam seems to be such a logical, comprehensive, all-encompassing Religion.
In fact it is not just a Religion, but a Way of Life!

Congratulations to all those who follow this Way,
Let us all on this Way Pray,
That one Day,
The Rest of the World Realises that the Religion they are criticising Today,
Is actually a Religion full of Beauty!

May Allah have mercy on the X-KGV agent esp. if his taubah is accepted by the Most Merciful and the Most Forgiving. In leaving this world he tried to warn mankind of the evils that Tyrants can do to deceive the world.Ameen

To the ex-kgb agent, I maintain that various religious texts on Islam have stated that the one who makes a muslim is Allah and only he knows what is in a persons heart. Somewhere during Bro. Litvinenko's life he obviously may have been administered the (kalimah/shahadah) the words of allegiance to attest to the oneness and greatness of Allah. It is very possible he may have been a muslim and he was hiding his true belief, if so under certain situataions a person could lie by mouth but not by their heart Insha'Allah. Allah and his prophet know best.

It is in his father's comments that one sees the true spirit of religion. It is not wether one professes Islam, Orthodox Christian or any other world based faith but rather that one has the spirit of Love and Peace in their heart. This Spirit is God or Allah or any other world-based word we use to refer to the Almighty spirit of Love.
There is true greatness in any organized religion that can accept that its professed Spirit, found in others by another name, has to be the same Spirit. We have no problem accepting different words with the same meaning between different languages, why should we not accept different names for the same Spirit between differrent religions.
Allah is great enough to be called God, The Lord, The Spirit or any other name that stands for Love and Peace.

It is realy too bad Mr Litvinenko did not have the opportunity to meet the Savior, the one and only who came from God to forgive us of our sins and faults. Any man living today as a unique duty who meet Him and start a new life with the joy of going to heaven after death. As we celebrate His birth think about your relationship with Him.

Merry Christmas

Honestly this whole argument going on in these comments posting is unneccesary. What he did at the end of his life is his personal business and has nothing to do with him being a spy, its almost as if non-muslims r posting comments linking KGB with islam, and muslims linking his sudden media attention to bring up hes muslim. It has to do with neither. BTW good job Truth Seeker on exposing that other guy, those tricks of his r pretty lame. And the name DictateDimocracy explains it all. That what the western powers, russia included would like to portray yet how do u dictate democracy? You don't

It is indeed a great blessing from Almighty GOD that he guide somebody to truth before the death approches.May Allah the - almighty give guidance to all the humanbeings - Ameen

Oh - fairminded humans, islam is the same religion which is practiced by all the prophets - to name a few , ADAM,IBRAHIM[ABRAHAM],MOOSA[MOSES],ISA[JESUS] and MUHAMMAD Peace be upon all of them...

Muslims respect and love all of these prophets.Prophet Muhammed[Peace and blessing be upon him] is the last prophet [Seal of the prophets],Allah [The Almighty] said in the Quran 'In prophet Muhammed - There is an Excellent example to follow'

every humanbeing living on the face of earth is required to follow Prophet Muhammed [Peace and blessing be upon him].

Oh fellow humans , Read the Quran - This is the Only scripture on the face of the earth now which is unchanged.Nobody has ever able to change the Quran a bit even after 1500 Years. And it is a challenge from GOD [Almighty] that nobody will be able to change the text of Quran till the DAY OF JUDGEMENT.

Read the Prophet life and see what best example he can give you..Life is very short .. Control your destiny and use the oppertunity now..

There's only one god for all the universe, who control the sun and the moon also the stars to let you know about the time and navigation.

He lead someone by His will
And if He lead someone, no body can bend it
