American actress and now British resident Gwyneth Paltrow has shared her thoughts on the differences between the UK and USA, and feels the Brits win hands down in the scintillating dinner talk department, among other things.

"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner," she told "NS," the weekend magazine supplement of daily Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias on Saturday.

"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," the 34-year-old added.

Paltrow lives in London with Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin.

Neighboring American and now transplanted Brit, Madonna, 48, who married British film director Guy Ritchie six years ago, offers Gwynnie good advice.

"She's like an older sister. Everything I have gone through, she went through ten times worse and ten times longer. She gives me good advice about how to say no and take care of myself," said Paltrow.

Several American actresses have declared their love for living the British life, including rocker Courtney Love, who recently made an announcement she was thinking of relocating permanently to Britain.

More wisdom from a member of The Hollywood Brigade. Just imagine, here's a woman who inarguably owes the largest measure of her fame and fortune to Americans. Yet she has just openly told Americans that she looks down on them as inferiors.

Does this sound like something a truly intelligent person would say? Publicly? Notice that hardly anyone like her won't make these kinds of statements when they are struggling to become successful. It's almost always after they have enough of your money in their pockets that they feel courageous enough to spit in your face.

Paltrow has the intelligence of a grape. She's nasty, spiteful and butt ugly from the inside out. A total lack of class.

I have a rigid policy for people like Paltrow. When they open their big mouths and make insulting personal remarks I close my wallet completely. As far as I'm concerned they no longer exist. They may not need any more of your money, but the one thing their grossly inflated egos can't handle is being ignored.

Gwyneth,

As an American/French I lived in England over a 12 years period and Europe over 20 years. I still have a house in England.
I agree with you that living in London is fantastic City and England is fantastic country and love the humor and the people. The British are getting a lot more cuisine minded than people think and have great afterwork meeting places. The country side brings an high living standards to raise a family and
feel the the great things of what life has to offer. England is a country of
shops and books and I try to get over to London to splurge a bit

I lost my father several years ago (American) and from Kansas and was in the
Diplomatic corp. I am very proud to American here in Europe and feel we are
all ambassadors.

We should never compare the two countries, who is better or worst, they are each unique and have a lot to offer. We are both great countries and have to look at the positive characters. It is not to easy with current politics.
The people of America and Great Britain compliment each other and we need each other more than ever now.

So Gwyneth, je te comprend mais 'vive la difference' Vive Kansas, Vive la
Reine D'Angleterre!
I told my friends in England that I will always take a bullet for England!

OMG...Is this spoiled, privilaged woman for real? She has actually never had to work a day in her life, know what it's like to worry about a morgage, ecetera thanks to her capitalist father. She's fabulously wealthy in her own right (anyone worth tens of millions of dollars is fabulously wealthy co9mpared to the vast middle class)because of capitalism. Capitalism has given her the supreme luxury of behaving like a moron and she not surprisingly bites the hand that's breed and feeds her. And she obviously is completely out of touch with the average British or American (or the vast bulk of most people in the world)citizen. Finally, what is it with these Americans (mostly woman for some reason)who think they're English, complete with ridiculous fake English accent? 99% of Englishmen and woman are lauhing at them. I'd suggest in Paltrows case, because of her extremely privilaged upbringing, she never bonded with her native culture and probably has contempt for the little peole. Is her desire to stand out from the crowd and be 'different' that severe? Pathetic.

A few interesting comments from UK sources:

http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebrity/Gwyneth+Paltrow:++Brits+Are+More +Intelligent+Than+Americans+-8548.html

http://film.guardian.co.uk/interview/interviewpages/0,,1695582,00.html< br />

'She likes the geeky roles, but not the low pay that goes with them. She loves England, but hates our drunk women.'

'She won't tell me the most she's ever been paid for a role. I say I read somewhere it was $2m. She looks mildly perturbed. Is that offensively low? 'No, not at all,' she says vaguely. 'That's what you read? Well, it's more than that. But...''

GP: 'I think, ooh, you're really degrading yourself right now, to be this pissed out in public.'

GP: 'I think it's sort of funny how you have to be doing coke off the ass of a stripper to be perceived as not boring these days.' Yep, all very civilized.

GP: 'I really don't think I'm stuck-up. And neither do the people who know me. I can be picky and super-critical about things, and I have certain standards, but I certainly don't look down on other people.' Umm, really?

It's fun to play 'English'Dec 4th, 2006 - 03:47:40

The British aren't capitalistic??? Did her intelligent friends not educate her that Capitalism was a 'gift' that the United Kingdom gave to the world? Does she not remember Margaret Thatcher? Is she unaware that the City of London the hub of global banking? Does she know how expensive it is for most people in East and South London to maintain anything remotely resembling a decent standard of living? As a foreigner, she is also probably immune to the effects of class-consciousness that run through the British psyche... This is very COMMON amongst wealthy American transplants.

What I think Ms. Paltrow meant to say is that the RICH, pampered people in West London she is so happy to have found she can relate to, do not flaunt their wealth as garrishly and offensively as the RICH, pampered ones she used to associate with on the Upper-West-Side of Manhattan or the RICH, pampered ones that gave her a career in West-Los Angeles. But the VAST majority of the British people are just as concerned with money, materialism and status as the average American is, Gwyn.

Capitalism is alive and well in the United Kingdom. A fun excursion for Ms Paltrow might involve taking her Primrose Hill friends down to Hackney or Stratford for an afternoon picnic to see some of Capitalism's nastier side-effects!
Afterwards, they can all have an clever conversation about it over a meal of lamb and mint jelly, and everything will be just tickety-boo in Gwyneth-land, won't it?

'You see, in a recent interview Gwyneth Paltrow started spouting off about how British people were more interesting, intelligent and civilised than their American counterparts, and her comments appear to have sparked off some kind of nationwide outrage in America.

Sure, we know that a little over a year ago Gwyneth Paltrow said the exact opposite thing and gave Britain a slating, but we're going to ignore that because the sense of validation that we get when a watery macrobiotic wooly-headed ninny who names her children after various pieces of fruit like Gwyneth Paltrow shows slightly more affection towards us than the country her family is from is simply overwhelming.'

I agree Europeans are smarter. They have us paying for their security with our military bases in England, Germany, Italy and Spain. We should smarten up by pulling out of those areas and make them start paying for their own security. I wonder what that would do to their already high tax rates? In fact, lets go ahead and let them build military bases over here.... Then we can start having subsidized child care and a national health care system.
