50 Cent's Oprah rap
Dec 1, 2006, 8:00 GMT
50 Cent has accused Oprah Winfrey of pandering to white women.
The rapper believes the chat show host has allowed wealth, fame and power to change her as a person and has accused her of turning her back on her roots.
He said in an interview with Elle magazine: "She started out with black women's views but has been catering to middle-aged white American women for so long that she's become one herself. I think the idea of being publicly noted as a billionaire makes black women interested in seeing her views. But it's even more exciting to the demographic of white American women she's been aiming at to see that she has the exact same views that they have."
Oprah is one of the richest women in America.
The talk show queen - who made $100 million in 2005 - is worth a reputed $1.4 billion.

I agree with James .
I agree with Peter.
You don't mess with Oprah. Period. 50Cent should know better.
And who is he to talk, what has he done for women and society. Well, besides objectifying women in his videos and treating them as anything less than equal.
Sure Oprah may not show her roots all the time, but does she really have to?
His anger at Oprah seems to be misdirected...and he knows it. Why else would he say something so ignorant.
Why's it always about race? Seriously, let it go already. You don't like white people, fine, but that makes you racist too. 50 Cent, Kanye West just shut up already. We know you're black, but the choices you make with your life don't reflect anything but racism. You bring it on yourself.
Come on... black, white, brown, yellow, whatever...she is an inspiration for all humans. She came from crap and made her life worth living. And, if you want to talk about getting or giving back to her roots... she is in the process of overseeing a school for poor African kids. 50 cent might want to think twice before giving his first two...
I would rather have Oprah's inspirational views for all mankind that for my child to look up to 50 Cent..sshheesh common now he has to wear bullet proof vests.
That's like saying because you use good english and make good grades, you're trying to be white.
When will the madness end? He's the perfect example of a mind is a terrible thing to waste. So what he's worth 50 million, he is nothing!! She will still be counting her cash and helping people way after he's long gone...
In 5 years we will be saying 50 cent who????
Ohhh Hell Nooo - He Did Not Go There?!!!!
Ok first -Thank you Steve - well said!
I am so steamed so I hope I can get this out....blogging is like Therapy!
Ok Here I Go:
Is 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris & Ice Cube determined to ruin what little good reputation we Black Women have left? Oprah Winfrey is not perfect & yes she has made her share of mistakes! But this(our queen) has sacrificed & sacrificed to get positive Black people on her shows that would never have gotten a chance to speak on any other TV Forum! 50 Cents you are disgusting creature to say Oprah is turning into a White woman! Since her show has aired Oprah has promoted 1000's of Blacks and others who have good, sad, bad & sometimes horrible stories to tell. But as Oprah believes & I do too....there is something to learn from anyone who wants to change for the better & make a difference in people's lives.
Making records calling Black Women: chicken head, hootchie, ho, bitch, pussy, gold-digga(hello Kanye and much more nasty filthy names. It's so degrading. It's no wonder there are so many angry women walking around!
Maybe 'fiddy' can enlighten us on what views black females really hold. Of course Oprah has different views now than from when she was 25, its called growth.
holy crap. 50 cent is smarter than i ever gave him credit for.
oprah winfrey is really, really good at making white people feel good about themselves despite the fact that they benefit from institutional racism. i definitely didn't expect this kind of relatively complex grounding in race theory to come from 50 cent, though. props.
Welcome to this episode of the pot calling the kettle black with your host, 50 cent.
Personally, I don't watch Oprah's show. I haven't seen any of it in years. what little I do remember was of her talking about problems that most of us already know about, but don't have the resources to broadcast over national TV like she does. Ironically, I've probably heard more about 50 than I have Oprah. What I have heard about him doesn't leave me to think of him as the one who should be telling anyone where they are wrong.
she forgot her roots? I'll bet that she didn't. she probably thinks about it all the time. she was poor as anyone you see living on the street now. she was lucky enough to get a chance to make something of her life and smart and strong enough to turn it into what you see today. that isn't the kind of thing you can easily forget. 50 cent has done the same thing through rap. with any luck, maybe one day I'll be riding around in a car that costs more than the small house I live in now. I can't think of anyone who wants to live in poverty and I certainly don't have ill feelings for those who no longer have to. All I'm asking is just save me a mansion for when I make it.
as far as her views changing, so what? as a poster before me said, it's called growth. on top of that, she's got a show to run. what, you want her to talk about something that isn't going to make her show a success? I don't see 50 rapping about the tough life on wall street or the struggle faced by teachers. He knows he'll get laughed off the stage and his records will end up in the 50 cent cart at wal mart. he knows what he has to do to sell records and Oprah knows what she has to do to sell her show. As a friend of mine would say,'Game recognizes Game'.
-Stormhammer-
yo who cares what all yall think you know whos gonna win...50. hes been tearin up the rap scene forever he has no worries about stuff let alone you stupid opinions
Who does 50 Cent think is supplying him with his enormous prosperity? Mr. Cent has admitted that Oprah’s audience members are his fan bases mother’s.
This is 50 Cent. I intend to bust a cap in Oprah's ass.
I am a black woman who is happy to look up to Oprah for inspiring women of all races, than look up to 50 cent who is busy exploiting women. All this nonsense about being 'black enough' is such a pain. 50 cent probably has some serious insecurities and is trying to make himself feel better by humiliating others. Oprah can have whoever she wants on her show, and she does not have to glorify anyone who exploits women.
listen 50 didnt say oprah is a bad person. He just sayin we dont have many black women doing things to represent us (the black nation)noone said got the right to say anything about 50 because y'all didnt have to go through what he did to grow up. oprah did, or even worse what he is saying white people did her wrong and all she is doing is taking up for them. I'm not saying hate them and dont help them but i am saying help look after your people. and really she started it. Rappers were doing their own thing and she came and said what she had to say. rich black woman or not she was out of line. and most of yall shut the f*ck up and leave them alone because we have that right to say what we want to say. if you dont like him just dont listen you dont need to down talk him. try comin where me and 50 came from and say the same thing.
While I'm all about rising up from where you came from, SO many people use it as a tool to make people feel sorry for them. I grew up on the dirt side of poor, no father... I can remember walking into the kitchen and literally having nothing in the cupboard. Nothing.
Did that make me want to go down to the welfare office and live off everyone else? No, I did something about it. I got my own job, made my own way in life. I didn't say, dang I grew up poor so you should feel sorry for me. Oh and look at that other person who was poor but is now a millionaire.
This guy's logic is that I should hate people who do something with their lives.
As much as blacks complain about whites being SO racist, maybe they should just look and see how much they are racist. Everything is about race with them. Being white, I'm in the minority. I'm the only white person in my office. If I don't want to listen to rap, I hate black people. If I don't want to go to the hip-hop club on weekends with them, I hate black people. It's never ending but the blacks aren't trying to help stop it.
As a Black person myself nothing makes me angrier than people that denigrate others because the step 'outside the box'. Oprah refuses to be anything other than Oprah and I think that's why people love her. If the rappers are ticked off that she lives and works in different income circles than they do that's fine -- that's their problem. I think the lines of prejudice have 'mostly' shifted from being a division between Black-and-White to being a division between Rich-and-Poor. Oprah's friends, speech patterns and interests are more inline with people that live in suburbia and less aligned with those in teh ghettos. The rappers may have a better feel for the pulse of lower income people (notice I didn't say Black) and believe me they're cashing in on that fact just like Oprah makes her living (primarily) on suburbia... Just an observation and not criticism of anyone. Maybe the rappers should learn the difference.
this is for girl on the thing about racist talk i hope that wasnt directed towards me. trust me i am far from racist my kid is mixed and my ex-fiance is (obviously) white i was just saying everyone is making 50 look so bad for speaking his mind. Everyone has to admit that oprah never represent where she come from. If she does it's one in a blue moon. can you tell me where she comes from, can anyone of you out there tell me where she come from; probably not. 50 not bad like everybody talk, he jus speaking his mind so let dude alone. oprah started the drama she started the war on rap, right. rap like any other style of music is an expression of self and feeling. and the constitution says we can say what we want. so let that nigga speak his mind. every one knows the good oprah has done but like i said just because she is rich doesnt mean she can talk bad about other people views rap, sex etc. they grown as people what she trying to mother them for
one more thing girl me or 50 not asking anyone to feel sorry for us. like he said hate it or love it. he didnt become famous b/c peopple felt sorry for him, he got famous because people liked his style of music. i didnt get where i got b/c people felt sorry for me, i climbed from the top. what i was saying was dont try to criticize him b/c you dont know where he's coming from (that whole walk a mile in his shoes analogy). if you've done what we've done and lived like we've lived and still survive then you could say something (not just to girl to everyone.)
50 cent is a sell out himself for selling drugs to his own black community, contributing to the sad plight of his people. He obviously hates black women, he calls them the 'B' word and the 'H' word every chance he gets and all the while fattening his wallets and pockets. Don't forget what a pimp really is, it is a 'man' who disrepects, degrades, beats a woman, sends her out on the streets so that he can by new rims for his pimp caddy and his new sneakers! He makes black men look dumb and ignorant. I dont care if he has given to charities in the past or even if he continues to do so in the future, he has done so much damage to the black community that he could give his entire future earnings and it could not undo the damage he has already caused! Please dont give me that crap about 'its only music, its only entertainment', You would have to be a fool to truly believe this! The black community is in such a negative state that we cant afford any more black men who sell us out to the world in the form of 'hip hop',package it as entertainment and then make a phat profit from it! If you ask me, 50 is once again pimpin, only this time, he is doing it on a much grander scale! And if there are blacks out there who think all this stuff is ok, then they probably are unaware, and uneducated! We are politicians, talk show hosts, ambassadors, great sports heroes, talented artists, including the edgy hip hop artists, but it is never acceptable when we degrade our own people, i dont care how rich or famous we get!
it's always easy to tell the assimulators and the white people on a blog. oprah is deserving of criticism just as well as 50. if you dont think other child molesters are sitting at home getting their jollies off listening to other molesters tell their story then you all are nieve. which is ok, if you awaken from the naivite (i think thats spelled correctly). marganilized people have fewer roll models than the non marganilized to look up to. when your hero excludes you it's a blow to the psyche. 50 has terrible lyrics, but oprah's exclusinary stance is much worse to those marginalized who accept 50.
50 Cent is an idiot. He is in ELLE MAGAZINE of all publications, talking about Oprah selling out????? If she's a sellout, then why is he being interviewed by Elle of all places? Oprah uses her fame and money for positive things, to help people; what does 50 Cent do? He puts half naked girls in his videos, brags about his riches, etc. He may have tarnished Ja Rule's career but Oprah is way out of his league. I am a Black from the Caribbean and the impression we get from a lot of Americans is that they complain about how the white man holding them back and they just use that as an excuse not to advance themselves. The people who make it to the top regardless of color do not blame others for their fortune. It's 2007, it is time we put these slave mentalities to rest.
how could you people say 50 is making black people look bad? idiots black people are making us look bad. 50 didnt start drugs, 50 didnt tell people to do that people are going to get it anyway. it's a known fact that drugs is the hardest of all the laws to control. he did what he had to do to get money it pays more than most jobs and it's easier to do. yea sure he could get his lazy ass up to do something but if you do something for so long it becomes harder and harder to do other stuff or get skills in other things. 50 never claimed to be a pimp but he talks about it bc pimps had to hustle to get where they got. theres diff levels in the hustling business pimps have their own section. he's just recognizing one hustler to another. what real damage did he do to the community that we havnt already done to ourselves? we have been doing drugs long before 50 was born and will continue to do drugs long after he's gone(when i say we i dont mean me i mean black people). while it is true that he's not helping to make it better but for you to say he did so much damage is a false statement. we are the ones who made the stereotypes true, we are the ones who fight and shoot alot, we are the ones who did this and that crap not 50 alone. really why i take up for him is bc we just alike in almost every way. both been shot both shot people and both did what we felt was necessary to make money and move our kids out of neighborhoods that riscs getting them killed. i'm not saying feel sorry for us but i am saying unless you walked a mile in our shoes you dont have the right to say anything.
well, well is'nt that the pot calling the kettle black! what have 50 cent or any other rapper done for their own black race lately? i'm not talking about donating 100 grand to some orginazation because to me thats just a pacifer to keep the spot light off of their own greed, God allow people to get millions of dollars to help their own people and any others in need at least oprah do give back in the millions most of these rappers only give a false hope and violents! 50 and all other millionaire blacks including pastor need to put up or shut the mess up! and put up!
both 50 n Oprah can get lost for all we care
50 CENT IS AFRICAN NO MATTER HIS NATIONALITY
SO HE SHOULD TURN BACK TO HIS OWN BLACK PEOPLE
AND WATCH OUT FOR OPRAH
yes any time the man speak the truth babylon can take
the fire ,50 u are real and u love your africa keep it
up and tell oprah for me that no matter his nationality
and his money she is still an african so she should
watch out for babylon and any time an african man become
somebody babylon try to change where he or she come from
50 keep and never give up until Jah come ..

Instead of criticizing Oprah, 50Cent should take a good, long look in a mirrore mirror. Oprah does not use drugs, carry knives and guns, degrade her race through her profession, get arrested, have a problem with reading, writing and speaking in a literate manner, and so much more. Can 50Cent say the same?
