Forget Paris Hilton, she is tawdry new money, not part of this crowd.
The real American socialites are rarely seen, never in public without underwear, and certainly smarter and more accomplished than you can imagine.
They've achieved their own kind of celebrity, walking into events and owning the moment.
Not since the 1960s reign of New York socialites Slim Keith, who shocked those in her day by posing nude for an artist, and her BFF, Babe Paley- one of the famous Boston Cushing girls, who was a great beauty, known for impeccable style, and who married Bill Paley of CBS fame, has a crop of real old money socialites made waves so strongly.

Funny that Olivia Chantecaille is on this list. She lived in my dorm at Skidmore. She used to sell Am-way products and pretended to be hard up for money.
