If the KGB did it, were they so negligent as to fail to cleanly deliver Polonium? Why didn't they use a more common poison? There would have been significantly less publicity. The whole story seems like a meticulously staged show. Thus, the culprit is among those who might benefit in these circumstances. Who? Certainly KGB is capable, but how they would benefit evades me. Oligarchs in exile? Big oil?

You wouldn't expect them to poison lollipops, would you? This is a dangerous game, get serious. Maybe this was just a test subject, with more to come. Hey, maybe the Russian mob and the government are working together. Hmm... Who else would they hire to do their filthy work? Let Scotland Yard figure it out.

What makes anyone think it was a mistake? The killers knew the consequences. This is the result they wanted. It was a message.

The crap about big oil? What the hell does oil have to do with this?

LOL! How? By destroying relationship with West? Who in Russia needed to kill this unknown and useless traitor Litvinenko leaving traces of radioactivity in 12 places? From the other hand: Mr. Beresovsky is wanted in Russia and there were negotiations between russian and british authorities about extradiction of a whole bunch of thiefs and terrorists, including him and some chechens. Now, how can Britain send them to such terrible place as Russia. Besides, who will fight KGB from London if all criminals will be deported? Next thought: all richest russian so-called businessmen are in fact serial killers. Or maybe you think that these people were the only ones who wished and was not lazy enough to pick up forgotten ex-USSR property? They all killed and managed not to be killed by others. They all USED to kill. Also, Beresovsky not once told that he wishes to destabilize Russia and thinking about scenarios how to change Russian elite. Not easy task, considering that 80-90% of people support Putin to such extend that they will elect any person whom Putin suggests. So, think again about who can benefit from death of Litvinenko. Oh, yes, he was the best friend of Mr. Beresovsky! I am sure his heart is broken now... but for such people friends are good as long as they can use them. I guess, last time alive Litvinenko was not good enough. As I read his salary was reduced and he was trying to switch from politics to business thus making himself absolutely harmless for Moscow and pretty useless for Beresovsky.

Blaming KGB aka FSB aka Putin for poisoning Litvinenko does not sustain any critique.
'The KGB killing squad' if such existed would have made a cleaner job. This all is a public act. Who's the director - good question.

For someone to have access to receive that type of nuclear material they must have high security clearence to nuclear facilities or know someone high ranking that has that clearence. I doubt they went in themselves and received it but probably paved the road for someone to be able to get near that material or had a ranking official order the release of the material to the 'cell'. On top of that, they must of did their homework to know the decease's habits like the sushi bar. This is definitely a killer with a lot of resources and money or maybe a close person to the decease.
