Oasis blast Beatles

Nov 22, 2006, 13:50 GMT

Oasis have slammed their idols The Beatles - branding their new album "pointless".

Noel and Liam Gallagher - both self-confessed Beatles obsessives - have rubbished the Fab Four's compilation 'Love', urging fans to stick to the original albums.

Noel said: "It's a pointless exercise. I turned it off after five songs."

Liam added: "It's rubbish! If you haven't got The Beatles by now you're not going to get it. I'm all Beatled-up!"

'Love' is a collection of classic Beatles tracks reworked by legendary producer and 'fifth Beatle' Sir George Martin, and his son, to accompany the acclaimed Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas stage show of the same name.

Oasis are currently going head-to-head with The Beatles in the UK charts with their new best of record 'Stop The Clocks' competing with 'Love' for the number one album spot this week.

At present, Liam and Noel are winning the race with British music retail giant HMV revealing that Oasis are currently outselling their heroes and fellow competitors U2 and Westlife.

HMV's head of press Gennaro Castaldo said: "We believe that Oasis will have the fanbase and broad appeal to sell more copies of their album over the course of the week to land the number one spot but it's clearly going to be a lot tighter than everyone imagined. The Beatles aren't out of the reckoning either, but we think Oasis will emerge on top."

Oasis advise customers to stick to original albums while releasing a 'best of' compilation. Almost as clever as asking British soldiers to stop moaning.

Noel said: 'It's a pointless exercise. I turned it off after five songs.'

He would say that as The Beatles' Love album is light years ahead of anything that Oasis could come up with.
Sounds like sour grapes to me Noel and as the saying goes 'nobody likes a Noel'

The Love mash-up is obviously too sophistcated for the baboon brains of the Gallaghers.. Have there ever been a more moron group than Oasis? History will piss all over their legacy.
