Madonna to adopt girl
Nov 21, 2006, 12:10 GMT
Madonna is planning on adopting a baby girl.
The 'Hung Up' singer has fallen in love with Malawi orphan Jessica Kondanani and is desperate to give her a home, but an Australian couple insist they are already in the process of adopting the 18-month-old girl and will fight the singer all the way.
Madonna had been planning to adopt Jessica earlier this year, but chose 13-month-old David Banda after she found out how ill he was.
Malawi's minister of child welfare, Penstone Kilembe, told Britain's Closer magazine: "Her first choice, before David, was a baby girl called Jessica Kondanani. We suspect she was abandoned by her mother, possibly a schoolgirl."
Australian missionaries Angela Wilmot, 34, and husband John, 42 - who have already adopted four Malawi children - say they are determined to be the first to sign the adoption papers.
Angela said: "We were already in the process of adopting Jessica and we hope we will be successful.
"We heard that Madonna was interested in a child, who we now hear is Jessica - but we are quite far down the line with our adoption."
Madonna and her director husband Guy Ritchie have lodged their intent to adopt Jessica and they have already paid a follow-up visit to see her.
Meanwhile, the couple are still waiting to hear if complaints regarding their temporary adoption of David are to be upheld, after a Malawi judge failed to reach a ruling yesterday (20.11.06).

I wish it were easier to adopt from Africa. My heart just cries out to see the children working to eek out a few potatoes in a field to survive. I'm a single woman (58 but YOUNG), divorced, living on a minimum of money monthly as a starving oil painter-artist in Chapel Hill, NC, USA, yet I could still provide for them. I am rich compared to them. Yet, the 'powers that be' are more interested in their $25,000 per child, or whatever it is, and they will not BUDGE, unless they get their money. It's the CHILDREN that should be getting the money for the adoption, not the agencies. It's insane how many children around the globe suffer because of rigid, outdated, white collar motives for these adoptions. I protest and think it is so wonderful that ANYONE would go through the process of paperwork and officialdom to get a child they have bonded with. These children need our love, our homes and a different life. Let us have them without all this grief. vieni@email.unc.edu
Yeah if she can save another child from starvation, rape & death - why not? Madonna is gazillionaire & worth every penny. In the case that her husband Guy Ritchie should leave her - she can afford to take care of all her children by herself. Ooops I mean with the help of her Nannies, Babysitters, House-Keepers, Assistants, Security team & of course the Fathers of her two Biological children will pitch in from time time.

How ridiculous. Madonna trying to become some holy mother of the earth now. I hope the adoption officials and Madonna watch her Truth or Dare movie. A leopard doesn't change it's spots. She was just on Live with Regis and Kelly the other week talking about the difficult, very difficult challanged to balance family, husband, and she still wants a career. She said she does not want to be a stay home mom. How can she possibly help. If she really wants to help, she should send money. These poor kids are like being adopted as pets without much aforethought. I think Madonna's marriage is lactluster and she is trying to keep it together by having another kid around. That is no reason to adopt a child. It is purely selfish and religiously screwed up. She should 'adopt' a psychologist and psychiatrist.
