Christian Bale's child star warning
Nov 18, 2006, 12:00 GMT

Christian Bale has warned about the dangers of being a child actor.
The 'Prestige' star, who beat 4,000 other boys to a role in 'Empire of the Sun' when he was just 13, says starting acting when you are so young can be "confusing".
He said: "I had never been shy before, but I began to feel uncomfortable. At such a young age, I don't recommend it. It's healthier to start doing this kind of thing at a later age, when you know yourself a bit better. Otherwise it can end up being very confusing, spending so much time pretending to be other people."
Bale admits it was a huge shock going from an unknown British schoolboy to a star in his hometown when the film was released.
However, the brooding actor did enjoy the extra female attention he received.
He said: "The girls were all over me, boys wanted to fight me. I was being asked to open fêtes when all I wanted to do was ride my BMX bike in the woods."
