Bono wins back cowboy hat in final court showdown

Dublin - Irish rockstar and anti-poverty campaigner Bono and his group U2 Wednesday won an Irish High Court battle to retrieve a cowboy hat and other possessions from a former stylist who claimed she had been given the items as a present.

The pieces, estimated to be worth about 3,500 pounds (6,600 dollars), included a Stetson hat, a pair of metal hooped earrings, a green sweatshirt and a pair of black trousers. The group's former stylist, Lola Cashman, insisted in court that Bono 'plonked' the hat on her head as he was running around backstage in his underwear during a 1987 concert in Arizona. In 2002, Cashman put some of the memorabilia up for sale at Christie's auction house in London. She began the court proceedings after U2 lawyers tried to stop the auction from going ahead. But hearing an appeal, the High Court in Dublin ruled that Cashman must return the items in her possession. The band also demanded the return of items spotted in Cashman's apartment which included a video tape, a video monitor, rosary beads, photographs, mugs and Christmas decorations. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
